Topic says it all. I haven't played in 4 years. Yeah, a long time. I got sucked into the WoW frenzy. Yes, I apologize. =p
Anyway, I was thinking of leveling a ninja, since I've only ever leveled it as a sub and enjoyed it. I heard from a friend who continued playing after I left that ninja was kind of shit on somehow. Is it worth leveling a ninja nowadays? Is it going to be hard to do that while starting from scratch as a level 1 warrior? Not sure if this helps, but I'd be leveling it to tank, not to dps... which is weird to say. I heard a lot of NINs are forced to dps now or something.

I sincerely hope you have some friends around or something. You're going to have a bit of an upward climb to start from nothing. Soloing XP is a lot easier, but populations are much reduced and you may have trouble getting parties to make it through the middle levels (and leaching in Abyssea is pretty rough without connections).
That said, though, except that you'll need to find some steady source of gil to cover the cost of jutsu tools and regular equipment upgrades, it shouldn't be terribly difficult. Ninja is still valued as a tank in lower levels and, owing to the mechanics of Blade: Jin and, if you're diligent, Blade: Hi, can remain a potent tank by way of DPS through to level 90. At this point, DPS is tanking, and it has been that way for a while. Turtling up for pure survival is almost a relic of bygone days, though it does have a few applications here and there. For the most part, though, the best way to tank in FFXI has always been to hit things so hard that they aren't interested in hitting anyone else back.

Haha, I'm not really in it for the long haul, mainly because I don't have time as it is to level to 75 or 90, especially when fall semester hits... I just figured I'd come back for a few months and bid the game a proper farewell.

takes about 8 hours/ 2 abyssea exp partys to get 75-90, possibly less. exp is really, really fast.

I'm just gonna tag along this thread instead of opening a new one.
So I just came back to the game as well and found it deeply changed. It looks like I'm gonna have to solo most of my way to 75, and even with the exp bonus from signet, the grinding is still slow as hell.
I'm a NIN52 now, subbing DNC when soloing, and I really have no clue on what to kill: easy prey mobs aren't much of a threat but they still got tons of health and it takes a good chunk of time to kill them, all the FoVs in this lvl range are a pain in the ass 'cause the mobs for the regimen are scarce and all spread around on the map. Plus, even with DD gear on I don't dmg mobs much.
Any tips or advice? Thank you.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic, but I was serious. If you can manage to get your way into some half decent parties, you'll be 90 within about 12 hours of XPing, give or take a bit depending on speed and reformations.

Well, I couldn't tell if you were being sarcastic either.
But, given the chance, I'll surely go leech stuff in Abyssea.

So yeah, forgive me for being annoying but how do I exactly start this leeching process in Abyssea? All I've done so far is the first quest, entered the Cavernous Maw, bought some Visitant time as suggested by the guide on the Wiki and I went out.
What happens now? :S

Make a friend who will let you leech from or shout for an Abyssea XP group. You can have a full alliance with no significant cut in XP to you. They will probably ask that you be the chest whore, but you won't be able to at this point because you haven't accumulated any cruor. That's just something you'll have to explain to them very nicely so they let you stay lol. Once you accumulate a little bit of cruor, you'll be asked to be the chest whore. You'll just open up boxes for the group that give XP and time extensions (forget the colors off the top of my head) while the group kills stuff for you.
