  • Trigger conditions for following notorious monsters will be adjusted to spawn by trading specific items to the “???” in the respective area.

    Fafnir / Nidhogg: Dragon’s Aery
Behemoth / King Behemoth: Behemoth’s Dominion
Adamantoise / Aspidochelone: Valley of Sorrows

    - The ”???” will respawn a minute after the battle is over.
    - The NM will despawn if unclaimed for 90 seconds at the spawned location.
    - The feature wherein the level of these monsters will increase after battling them for a period of time will remain unchanged.

  • How to obtain the trigger items:

Fafnir: Treasure from “Early Bird Catches the Wyrm”
Behemoth: Treasure from “Horns of War”
Adamantoise: Treasure from “The Hills are Alive”
    * At least one of these items will be dropped in every battle.

    Nidhogg: Treasure dropped by Fafnir
King Behemoth: Treasure dropped by Behemoth
    Aspidochelone: Treasure dropped by Adamantoise

  • The treasures dropped by the following notorious monsters will be adjusted as follows:

    Fafnir : Wyrm Beard removed
Nidhogg : Drop rate of Wyrm Beard decreased
    Behemoth : Behemoth Tongue removed
King Behemoth : Drop rate of Behemoth Tongue decreased
    Adamantoise : Adamantoise Egg removed
Aspidochelone : Drop rate of Adamantoise Egg decreased

Well, thank god I already finished my Black Belt, as this sounds like a massive pain in the ass!

I haven't been on in a while, but do these HNMs drop anything good besides items for Black Belt since the level cap increase?

The conditions to pop them now sound like a pain in the ass.

I believe Adaberk is still the way to go for TP for certain jobs, but I'm not 100% sure in light of Cruor/Atma buffs. Having said that, I believe Dalmatica is worth crap since most if not all the jobs that could use it get Refresh on their EAF bodies. I doubt Hecatomb holds up as a WS piece (I've been phasing mine out as I get better gear) and synth mats aren't worth shit. So yeah, I don't know that much beyond Black Belt has remained unscathed. It seems beyond silly that the BB items are not going to be 100% drop rate, particularly when you need to suffer two fights minimum (the trigger for kings is not listed as a guarantee like it is from KSNM) to actually pop a King. Their Atma are not worth mention, the other drops are meh, I don't know why they're doing this at all when the HNM scene has largely flatlined already.

they did say they were working towards upscaling older gear with magian trials at a later date, so abj gear will prob fall into this.

^This.

If someone doesn't have a Black Belt and wants one, they should try to get items now before this happens.

  • First you'll have to drop 99 Kindred's Seals to basically fight the same mob. (yes BB items drop here but its still like 20% or lower)
  • Next you fight Fafnir (or one of the other ones) to try and get a pop item for the kings (drop item probably not 100%)
  • If you're lucky and get a king pop then you have a chance at getting a BB item, that used to be 100% drop.

Unless they plan on adding more items or a need to kill, new monks that are looking for a Black Belt should just give up.

absolutely horrible patch. If you gave a fuck about MNK, you would have already had a Black Belt by now. If you don't, get one asap, otherwise your life will be pretty gay trying to organize 2-3 fights to attempt to get the drop.

Worst case scenario:
BCNM doesnt drop the BB item, 0/1
Faf/Behe/Adam wont drop the item 0/2
Nid/KB/Aspid might drop the item 1/3

So in conclusion, 2 out of your 3 fights may drop the BB item you need, or may not. With the best luck on drops, you're looking at a minimum of 9 fights and a shitload of seals JUST to even attempt getting the items for black belt. So yeah, work on your shit now. 3 fights and whatever amounts of gil > shitty drop rates/not enough seal/sealfarming/not getting the item.

How lame.

I dunno... it seems kind of balanced to me. Bince back in the day unless you paid out the ass for items 99KSNMs was your best best unless you were in a shell that enjoyed camping that crap.

Though I find the need to cockblock people completing Black Belt completely unnecessary and obnoxious on SE's part... really, how many Monks actually lack it at this point? Not the flavor-of-the-month Monks who only play the job once in a blue moon except when it is regarded as the most powerful (back in Salvage days and now again with Atma and Victory Smite), but the ones who've been Monks for years. It's a short list those who still rock a Brown Belt. And the synergy augmentation system does not look promising to make old gear relevant. If I could get one cheap, though, I wouldn't turn my nose up at a Dalmatica for my Bard, if only because I like the color green.
