This happened not to far from where I live. One of my co-workers was at the hospital when she came in, and texted us, and we thought she was sending a sick joke. At present, a lot of people in the city are trying to raise money for the baby and the family to help pay for a lot of what's to come.

Honestly I was going to make some horribly insensitive comment that would of ultimately made people laugh. (Surely.)

But after reading the story I can only manage to believe this is from some really bad horror film.
There must have been serious mental issues with that woman for her to cut some woman open, pull put the baby with the placenta and umbilical cord still attached to it, then drive all the way to her friends house with it.

It takes either Charles Manson, or some seriously mentally fucked person to do something like that. Anyone that has scene medical footage, taken medical classes can only imagine the sheer disgusts a normal and competent person would have while cutting a pregnant womans stomach open. The amount of blood would make your average person pass out, but to then reach inside and pull organs out? That's just crazy.

Well, what's depressing is everyone is all but certain she won't get the death penalty as she'll get off with an insanity plea, so the next bid is to have her put in general population in prison. After all, we all know they kill child molesters. What really got me though was... Why did she have to cut out the ovaries and uterus too?

I wouldn't disagree with the death penalty on this one. But at least the baby has a father to look after him.
If someone was to set up a donations page (on something like Paypal) I would gladly give some money to help the family.

Hate to say it but... This WAS in a horror Movie. A similar scene in the third August Underground films. I get chills thinking of that... fucked up movie.

It was a pre-meditated murder though. Months in the works. Insanity for legal purposes tends to usually apply to a brief lapse in capable judgment under an extreme stressor. In this particular case, the stressor was a miscarriage, however, there was plenty of time to get help or therapy for that.

Either way though, Once you've harmed a pregnant woman or harmed a child, you're done. By the prisoner honor code, you're going to die. I only feel sorry for her family that this had to happen. For the murderer, I really think she needs to go.

I'm not sure what defines legal insanity.. But I think it would be hard to question whether the woman was insane. Insane people can very well premeditate murders, and often times do. You can see Jared Laughner and Cho Seung-Hui for examples here. Both very mentally disturbed people that caused a lot of death and thought out their crimes extremely well.

And what prisoner honor code? Have you ever heard the term "No Honor Among thieves"? I've known people who have been to prison. And there are many myths that fly around according to them. People don't talk about what they are in prison for. But that's hardly applicable. I would be hard pressed to think this woman will be anywhere but a state mental prison for the rest of her life.

And what is this about "Time for therapy"? Ever try being batshit crazy? Try it. Probably can't. Because crazy people that slice pregnant women open and rip their babies out think they are justified to do so, in some manner. They don't believe they need help. There is a reason why a lot of people that get mental health need to be turned in by their families.

If you are judge incompetant to stand trial (I.E. insane) you are locked into a mental facility until you are capable of standing trial. If you never recover you are there for life. If you do recover you go to trail and then they send you to the gas chamber.
