Hmmm I went back to FFXI because well 1, 14 sucks and 2, the job system in 11 is what I loved.
What do you think? I don't know if I'll go back to 14 again after going back to 11.

People on FFXIV are mostly waiting to pass judgement when everything is elaborated on a bit more. I, like many of us that still play, have a pretty good feeling about the upcoming changes. As for you returning to FFXIV, I'd have to say it's still a crap shoot... It always has been. As more information is released, your confidence in making a decision will rise and you won't have to ask, so I'd suggest you just wait it out until the inevitable in-depth analysis of the new job system is released (most likely in a few weeks) and then decide.

I think it's rather perplexing that they would want to return to the stale auto attacking mechanic. I rather like the fact that FFXIV had broken away from it, but it is what it is. At the end of the day it's presence or absence won't influence my overall enjoyment of the game.
I am a little bit interested in this new Job system they intend to impose though. For a while I thought they were just going to retweak the classes to more dedicated positions, but leaving them in their current state for solo play while adding in more streamlined jobs is intriguing. It will be interesting to see if it doesn't cause them balancing issues and headaches in the long run.

well well, what do we see here. this is what we of a sound mind proposed during the alpha and beta. But our wise opinions were drowned by all the ney-sayers saying "it is fine", "it will be fixed", "wat better this way".

And then there was disappointment!

Spoke to the dev. team to try and wrangle some more details regarding the upcoming job system. The current thinking is to have one job for one class. So for example, if you are a gladiator, the job you could unlock would be paladin, etc. Right now, we can't give any further details about the possibility of having multiple jobs per class.
To try and stave off the coming flood of "So if gladiator becomes paladin, then what will xyz class unlock?" You'll have to stay tuned for more details in the future!

That is a little disappointing. Unless they set the level requirement to unlock the new jobs pretty low this could become a big (and possibly boring) time sink.
