Just a quick question, I've struggled to find any information regarding it apart from a rumour. I understand FFXIV is in a "quantum-development" stage at the moment but would I be able to even join a server? It's currently free of charge monthly but heard that SE are not accepting new players as well until PS3 version is released? Can someone shed some light on this, please? I don't want to end up installing everything then unable to make an account.

I can buy the game from small retailers but heard also that SE have snatched it off the shelves for the time being?

Thank you.

SE want as many people as they can to play and stick with 14. I find it HIGHLY doubtful they are not accepting new players. Due to its reception it was removed off the shelves. They honestly should have spent another year or two on the development. But if you want to play it just get a copy. Can probably get one really cheap somewhere.

Thank you for the information, Xellith. I remember you in FFXI; I was Astrix then Artifakt, you playing FF14 yourself?

Patch 1.18 is supposedly going to add/improve a lot of things, and it's coming in 1-2 weeks (hopefully). I suggest waiting for the Patch and the playerbase's reaction before starting on FFXIV. Right now, the game just isn't really fun, to be honest.

Thank you for all the feedback. I think I shall wait a couple of months anyways, especially since the only way to play it for me is to bootcamp windows 7 on my Mac Pro as I understand its a power hungry game; and by doing so I need to invest in a copy of windows 7 home premium 64... obviously it is not the only reason I get windows for playing FFXIV, there will be other things I require it for, such as work related stuff.

Although I checked up on system requirements I'd like to check with you guys since playerbase knows better, will this power suffice to play FFXIV efficiently?

2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
12GB 800 MHz DDR2 RAM
NVIDIA GTX 285 1GB VRAM
SATA 2 HDD
Resolution 1920 x 1200

Also if you'll permit me, wanted to ask small details about the gameplay? Will SE be keeping the cool custom macro setup like in FFXI and is the chat log any good? FFXI was fantastic taking up the whole bottom of the screen with its clear and immersive chat log. Does FFXIV have mission story arcs like FFXI or those one of the things people want still? Are there such things like Dynamis too?

Thank you^^

From what I can tell, your PC should be more than sufficient to play FFXIV. My old one was worse than that, and I could play FFXIV on medium settings without any issues.

As for your questions regarding gameplay:
- you can write your own macros like in FFXI, though not all commands like /assist are available at the moment
- the chatlog size is adjustable, though it's a static chat window much like in other MMORPGs like RO, Daoc, Lineage 2 etc. and it looks rather plain, unlike the cool chat from FFXI
- there are missions with storyline and cutscenes, though they're all pretty much solo only, and you have to attain certain Ranks (levels) to progress
- there are no battlefields like Dynamis, but 1.18 will add 2 so-called "raid dungeons" for a 4-man, rank 25 party or a 8-man rank 50 party, they've also promised an Ifrit battle and some other thngs to come at some point

Thank you very much for the info, greatly appreciated, Rhayve.

I get the impression SE are taking it seriously and it will in the coming months vastly improve and be a unique mmo like FFXI. Thus I think I'll join end of summer.

Thank you.^^

I was thinking this, but when you look at where its going now, you realize coming out and almost flopping was probalby the best thing for it. Whenever it lands on PS3 it will be a completely different game than it would have been had it had an extra year or two of development on the product it originally was. Note the change in development leads, and the fact that much of the development is feedback based.

We'd have ended up with something completely different from where its going, and probably not as good.
