Considering returning

My husband and I are considering playing again, since FFXIV sucks balls, and I'd rather not waste my evening watching TV :P

Couple of questions, assuming this server board is still somewhat active:

We have a bunch of 75s, no linkshell these days, probably don't know too many people on the server. With limited playtime (we have a kid, and another on the way) is it pointless to even consider leveling, if we only have 2-3 hours a night for this? Is there ANY way for a duo to level these days? Jobs for me = BRD, SMN, BLU, PUP, DNC, BLM, I forget if I have others... His are PLD, BLM, MNK, WAR, BRD

Are people still doing things like Nyzul? I think we left last time because we took a break for a few months, and people were unwilling to help get the 100 floors - which back then for a PLD at the least was annoying since no WS.

I suppose I'm just wondering if it's worth the time, and if there's any "fun" left for those who did endgame to death, but no longer have it as a real option unless a LS is willing to have us for events 8pm - 10:30ishpm most nights.

Thanks all :)

Duo level no, and you're going to have to put in I'd say at least 30 minutes given your situation to start each XP session before the XP really gets flowing. Once it's going it's amazingly fast but if you can't commit that initial time for a group, you won't get much done. I'd say you'll probably not get a whole lot accomplished, but its like 10 bucks to buy all expansions and get started so it wouldn't hurt to try.

I have the expansions, except for Abyssia. I have access to pretty much everywhere that was accessible as of a yearish ago - before the level cap changes. I remember doing merit parties, etc, for crazy exp, but it was with the LS and people expected you to be there for 6+ hours at a time - if this is still the norm, it's not going to happen, lol. Is Abyssia needed right off the bat? I could always two box my RDM mule to become a PL later on, but not sure if that would be worth the time. Do people campaign/nyzul anymore? Will I be good with "excellent" level 75 gear while leveling for a bit at least?

A lot of "excellent 75" gear was replaced before 80 and is situational beyond that. Mnk + Blm and a Rdm mule could make a pretty decent dent into farming the new Empyrian AF+1. Although I would suggest leveling your mules whm as rdm is quite worthless. Beyond that, get used to the lol-anything except mnk war nin whm scene that FFXI has become.

Oh, if you want to exp ever... Yes EVER in anything beyond a duo situation. You need abyssea.

I appreciate the reply. Now to try and figure out where to start, lol.

Also, are people still doing MNK/NIN, or something like MNK/DNC?

Mnk/war and Whm/rdm - Whm/Sch can practically duo anything within abyssea with the correct buffs (atma). Honestly if your guy has a well geared mnk and you can keep him alive after you get decent atma sets you can do almost anything you want.

I dual box my Mnk + whm and my wife usually brings w/e she wants and we answer to nobody's schedule except our own. It will take you some work to get there, but it is certainly possible.

Getting the atma required to do all that stuff will be more difficult than killing the mobs after they have them tbh.

After some reading last night (and campaigning, holy crap, nice exp bonus there, I got 8800exp just from killing two mobs in a beastman-controlled zone), I was wondering about this.

Anyone know of any casual-ish (not social, but not HNM) LS' that wouldn't mind taking on a few casual players? At least for the time being, I can feel like I am making progress my campaigning, lol.

Most LS nowadays are "casual-ish," as you would put it. The only LSs that still camp shit (are there any?) are going to be absolutely terribad.
