Well basically i stopped when the runes of artgahn or whatever came out
right when the samurais got a upgrade. In my opinion samurais
were not gimped. So i can only imagine how gimped thier not
today hahaaha. This is when the main skill was meditation.
Good luck Read the end if you want a example before
you read all this crap
Im going to put it on youtube soon
How to be awesome at being a Samurai in Final Fantasy XI
This is old school i don't know about the updates.
Well, you might think, well I think I'm good at Samurai
I do a lot of damage, I don't see anything else I could do to
improve.
Your wrong.
Being a good Samurai takes a lot of practice.
Its also going to demand the attention of
all of the partys attention except
the white mage.
Your going to have a whole set of
macros, and your going to have to change
a couple of macros before every party.
Now i'm sorry to say its been a long time
since I've played FFXI, but I think
I can give some pretty good tips
to play as a Samurai.
Your going to want to play the
best you can to get the most party
invites and be a respected
Samurai, and make the class
look a whole lot more awesome
then crappy samurais put out.
Your going to be picked before
all the other DPS classes
if your good enough
And your also going to want to invest
a lot of money on your gear.
Your actually going to have to have
two sets of gears. Now I don't know what
prices are like anymore, but this
isn't a guide to what gear
but the mechanics of the stats on gear.
Your also going to need a chart
of all the different skill chains.
This is the fundemantel aspect
of being a Samurai. Your going
to gain TP faster then everyone,
use meditation as much as you can,
and try your darnest to make sure
your TP doesent go past a 100.
You might say, well, I don't
let it get past 100, so I don't need
advice. Wrong. You will find out soon.
This takes time to learn,
as your going to have to find
the best possible skill chains
you can do with every member
of the party. This is going
to take practice, as you need
to time skill chains perfectly.
Now that you've decided, well,
maybe I can use improvement to be
a Samurai, and well, maybe I'm
not to stubborn to take advice.
This is a problem I see with some Samurais.
They are stubborn, or afraid to ask for
advice. This is not a Samurai brother.
You might as well commit suicide
for being a sucky Samurai.
The most important part of
doing skill chains is of course,
macros.
The first two macros you will need
is gear macros. Doing damage isn't
important if your TP is under 100.
What is important is accuracy.
If your TP is over 100, your
kind of going to far. you should
be preparing to use a skill to
skillchain. So once you
decide to use your skillchain
switch to another set of gear.
Strength gear. Strength gear
lets you make more powerful
skillchains and ditch out
alot of damage. It makes
a huge difference. This why
you need two sets of gear
at all time. You need strength
for skill chains, and accuracy
for when your not.
Its important to not fail in
accuracy before strength.
So buy cheaper strength
gear and more expensive
accuracy gear. But always
try to upgrade both if you can.
Money management is on your part.
If thiers not a huge different in
accuracy and you can buy some
strength gear, buy it, your
going to have to estimate your
own balances, a few points in
either could be not as cost effective.
Now that you've made the first two macros
its time for the next ones. These are going
to be to guide the entire party
to be effective at doing skill chains.
Now your going to make a skill chain
to alert other poeple and get thier
TP statuses. Make a macro called
TP check, so you can check all the
members TP.
Now that you know all the members
in the parties TP including the
the tank, you have more knowledge.
Now before I go on, I must tell you
about the skill chain chart, you could
be either going first or second.
Going second is a lot harder then going
first. As I said you have to be effective.
But your going to have to work
on the timing till you get it right.
You may say, well, why would
would it be harder, its as
simple as just going second.
Hopefully your a good samurai
and your not puzzled.
Because the next step is,
meditation.
Without effective use of meditation
your character sucks.
Your job is to tell poeple
when to use thier skillchains,
this is pretty handy, because
if your lagging in TP
you can inform other players
to go ahead and go so
thier tp doesent build to high.
Now make a meditation macro..
I believe I made it timed
so poeple would know when I used
it.
Now that your party knows you used
meditation, they know your about
to put put 2 skillchains in a
quick burst.
This is where timing is important
especially if your second.
Your going to use meditate
and use your TP right at
100 if your first or second.
This is why you make a macro
telling the party member to get ready,
and go at your call.
You have to know about when the
party member will respond and go.
Now i'm, going to tell you
about meditation, a skill that
give you 20 tp at a time
and 100 tp in a short period.
Now that your telling the party
member to get ready, and your
only have 20 TP, dont let
them down. Use meditate
and make sure the player is
ready to go when you are.
I forget, but your going to have
to play with timers to get it right.
But I think i used about 3 seconds
before I used my skill chain..
So my macro says I'm using
a certain skill to skillchain
with a specific party member.
After the 3 seconds you
should have used your
TP at 100 while meditating
was building up a 100 TP.
Seconds later you'll
have 100 tp again.
And you can skill chain
again. Its alot easier
if your going first of
course.
It takes practice
but its easy to consisently do.
When your going second using meditation
do a ready check with the person
your skill chaining with, your
going to have to have a macro
for each member of the party
your skill chaining with to tell them
to get ready.
Your also going to have to alert
the other party member to get ready
because your going to do another
skill chain with another party member
right after using meditation.
Anyway, back to going second
when using meditation. Instruct the
player your using meditation.
I can't remember the times again,
but your going to skillchain
right at 100 tp, and you
might even have to instruct the player
to go before you use meditation
depending what your at.
So basically your going second
even tho you have 40 TP and you plan
on going exactly at 100.
Now, on top of that you have to
work with the mages.
After a skillchain thiers a magicburst.
This lets the mages do extra damage.
This is where tanks that aren't good
enough stand out. Its very diffucult
to manage enemity in such high
damage situations.
Your going to have to alert the mages
which skillchain your making of
what type.
Again I forgot the timing.
But this is a basic thing you should
already know. The mages should be
alerted in time of which skillchain
your making. Make a macro for this.
Telling them which magicburst your using.
Infact tell them before the skillchain
happens if I remember.
If your doing everything right
you should be skillchaining
with all three weapon users
and the black mages should
be bursting the crap out of
mobs.
So lets take you through a mock fight..
So first you start the battle..
You do a TP check...
Dark knight is at 90%
and Paladin is at 150.
and the rangers at 50.
and your at 80.
First you tell the
Paladin to get ready,
As soon as your at 100,
or you think you'll make the next hit
tell the paladin to use his weaponskill,
and in the same macro alert the mage
of the upcoming weaponskill.
Now your going second.
as soon as he uses it use your
time released weaponskill
to skill chain accuracetly.
Now the dark knight is
past 100, and your owning
so your already at 20tp
after the skill chain,
Tell the dark knight
to get ready.
your going second again.
Use meditate that has another get ready message.
Now you should tell him to go ahead and go
giving him TP signals your TP is climbing up.
If he listens he'll go when you tell him..
And your awesome timing you'll go right at 100
leaving you with 20 TP + the hits you got
inbetween ur tp climbing up.. So you might
already be at 60 TP and you'll catch up in
time to skillchain with the Ranger that was
at 50 TP. Good job, you just did 3 succesful
skillchains...
Now remember to always identify the players
that need to go and what weaponskill
your using. And do TP checks often.
when you mention the weaponskill
thats about to happen mention
the type of magic burst.
And always remember to switch
gear to strength gear right
before you use your skillchains.
Sometimes you have to use
4 macros for this to fit
all the gear changes.
You should be doing 3 skill
chains in a row quite easy
when meditations ready.
Remember 100 tp use is
the goal.
Anyway thats all,
if anyone has questions
on how to own at samurai
or wants to buy my account
to use my macros(haha or
just give me a free month)
But i think you could
do it on your own..
Good luck being a better
Samurai, that uses timing
and macros more then any
other class. You'll
feel like a leader
even if you aren't the party
leader. HAhaha

Oh yah and i forgot the double hits, when you get double hits you pwn, and i had decent gear like haubergeon and stuff, i spent alot of time farming, and food is very important. obvious stuff.
I'm just saying when you get to the point u rarely miss you PWN! Double hits lets u catch up quickly

another thing is my skills were always timed, so it would be going a few seconds after i say it even if i'm second. But timing gets easier and you can restart the macro if you think you did it too soon

lol w/e yall are just jealous from sucking too many balls. Your gay ass guide says to always start the skillchain. Noobies, you can't always start the skill chain you want to use better weaponskills that are strength based. And also yes when there was 3 other melees i could keep up with all them, even if i was going second,
so if your not switching gear and trying to go first to make crappy skillchains, you fail.
Your guide says to always start first, thats not pro.
and obviously your going to mention the whole skillchain before it goes.
If you don't change gear your not maximizing damage.
and if you don't use timers you suck ballz to, timers give more notice to players. you want to make it easier for them
certain skills are strength based, and also you should have a thrid set of equipment for ranged TP. all is nescarry for maximizing damage,
it really closes a lot of doors if you don't do these few simple things, and if its too complicated for you to understand you shouldn't be playing
Samurai.

There are only two things you need to know to be the best.
Bacon.
