[dev1072] Abolition of Physical Levels / Attribute Point Revisions

* These revisions, planned for patch 1.19, are still in development, and therefore subject to change.

  • Patch 1.19 will see the abolition of physical levels.

Along with this change, the following adjustments will be made:

    • Abolition of Attribute and Element Points

Attribute and element points will be abolished, and character development will be automated based on class level. A system whereby players can voluntarily allocate attribute points to each class will be implemented in patch 1.20 or later, along with class balance adjustments.

    • Introduction of Automated Character Development

Automated character development will be implemented in patch 1.19, and will entail the following changes:

      • The growth curve will be revised, with each gain in level to be accompanied by greater increases in attributes.

      • Attributes will be made to have greater impact.

      • The impact of attributes will decrease as players gain in level; however, the benefits granted by gear will be increased.

      • Player accuracy will be increased slightly.

      • Race-based differences will be limited to the starting attributes.

    • Revisions to Terminology

The following in-game terms will be renamed.

      • Skill points -> Experience points

      • Rank -> Level

Just FYI, FFXI has pretty much copied every main point of WoW for the last 2 or 3 years now, down to merging your MMO account with a larger company based account instead.

But FFXI came out first before wow , and wow copied ffxi , but made it incredibly easy for players to get into the game by making the game easy , this was a common fact for all us ffxi players who played in the beginning but i certainly hope FFXIV doesn't copy a failed imitation , because ffxi had the best system... to begin with.. =/

I honestly have no idea which one came out first though I hope you're right lol. I started back in 04 and the game was NOTHING like it is now, it was retarded hard to do stuff from lvling to getting to missions. I guess after 7 years of running the game needs to make changes in order to stay alive and keep their members and for what I've seen from WoW FFXI pwns it in any aspect.

WoW only copied FFXI in the fact that they're both MMOs and FFXI came out first. Everything about FFXI from merits to all the new casual friendly stuff were all inspired by WoW.

...LOL WHAT? Have you played WoW?

Wait, wait. Let me restate: Do you even know what you're talking about?

If anything, WoW copied all it's MMO predecessors and added a couple neat little things like companions and achievements.

Stat curves have been out before WoW.

WoW has nothing that relates to merit points. The CLOSEST thing to merits, and this is pushing it beyond ridiculous, is the reforging function, which came out after Cataclysm was released (which, obviously came out after merits had already been released in FFXI). I don't see how WoW inspired Merit points. Casual friendly stuff? What?

The very first event when FFXI was released in NA of 2003 was the Halloween event, proving that they had casual friendly stuff already (this is before WoW was released still). WoW wasn't even released until 2 years after FFXI was first released in Japan. So... how did FFXI get casual friendly stuff from WoW even though they had it before WoW was released? Hmm?

"but i certainly hope FFXIV doesn't copy a failed imitation"

Everyone knows the fail that FFXIV was and is. Admittedly it's better now than when it was released, but it still sucks as badly as your claims of FFXI copying WoW.
