Hi, I played this game for like 5 years up until about 2 years ago, wing of goddess was the last expansion i recall i think that or aht urgan, whichever was the latest ...

I have a few questions, I was originally on unicorn server then bounced around i think the last time i was on Remora maybe, at any rate my questions are this:

Would my account even be able to activate after 2 years?

If so, what can i expect out of the game, is it still all about bots, hnm LS's and drama?

LVL cap raise i've heard, how does this compare to the lvl 75 cap I remember?

Would you recommend returning if possible or is the game absolutely nothing like i remember it being and i would be disapointed?

I dunno, i've recently been playing LOTRO because it's free 2 play and i flat out bought all of the content in the game so i don't need to pay for a subscription over there, one big drawback and the main reason i quit ffxi was the stupid verified by visa crap i had to close out my visa 2 years ago because of inability to pay my bills when i got laid off, do they still require that verified by visa?

Edit, sorry just noticed i posted in general info forum, havn't even visited an ffxi related forum in ages.

If you were on Remora before, you are probably going to end up on Leviathan when you first come back on. But you can pay to transfer your main and mules to a different server if you want.

Your Character should be retrievable as long as you did not delete it and instead just deactivated it.

Bot's are kind of a non issue now due to the fact that 90% of all content old and new is instanced now. Things are much easier to obtain in a reasonable amount of time also so the drama has lowered as well.

The level cap just hit 99 so it is a good time to come back and ride the experience wave to get your job up there. Exp is a joke these days proven by the fact that a level 99 won't think twice about blood warping. Gil is easier to come by too so getting geared and fed (tools, food, ammo etc.) is a pretty easy rat race now to stay ahead of.

Most of the content is low man friendly, exception being Voidwrought NMs. They can be killed with fewer numbers, but if you do not bring a full alliance with you of as many variety of jobs as you can find then you will be spinning your wheels.

I think this is about the best time to come back if you are going to. It is a lot more casual friendly and you are not working what seems like a 2nd job just to get your goals accomplished in the game. Also the payment method has been expanded a lot. You can prepay now, or setup a month recurring payment. I personally like the pre-paid method. I buy a couple of 20$ game cards every few months and load up my account. Simple as that, no waiting for the exact time of the month to have your sub money in your account. Drop like 40-100$ when you can and know that you are ahead on your payment for FFXI for a few months.

If you do end up on Leviathan, look me up, we have some old school players who have returned recently you can get caught up with and learn all the new stuff.

Boldfinger and Icywave are hanging with us and they seem to be having fun. Icy said to me "it's like a whole new game" lol.

It really is, but not hard to catch up.

Example. Going from 75-99 on your character will take at very very leisurely pace a week tops. And that is if you are not even trying. There are new limit breaks that tend to slow the XP while you are getting uncapped. But once you get past all Limit Breaks you can take a 2nd job from 75-99 in about 5 hours. A job from 1 all the way to 99 without having to do limit breaks would take maybe 4 days. 2 if you are a zombie. Just keep in mind skill-ups now-a-days are the hard part of leveling a job. After you have leveled a job so quickly your combat and magic skills will be very under leveled so you will have to spend a little time grinding skill-ups. They have introduced food and gear into the game recently to make skill-ups a little faster, as well as a random last once a week buff that can appear for all conquest areas (all areas from the base game and the first expansion, Zilart.)

Come check it out, if you do not like it cancel a month later lol.

Hi Stubbie! I'm coming back to Sylph and Tomiko is also on that server. Shipp is still available, and he's been deactivated since early '10. I don't think SE is even in the position to delete old characters anymore. Hopefully you'll head to Sylph and leave Remora/Fenrir (Unicorn merged with Fenrir while you were gone) and we can have new drama!
