Not just one of those visual upgrades, like Shadow of the Colossus/Ico, the Sly collection, God of War 1 & 2, but a complete rebuild from the ground up.

Yeah, this company has lost it's goddamned mind.

PATV's Take.

Oh great, just what I always wanted! Another remake of a game that's only 10-11 years old!

At least before, when I thought that this was simply going to be upscaling and possibly fixing the lipsync for English, I could justify it with, "It's not a whole new project." Now, I just really don't care much anymore. Sort of sad to see a company, or at least 1/2 of the company, that used to produce great games become a caricature of itself. I'm wondering if they chose FFX since people complained XIII was "linear" when X really started that trend.

Fuck, I didn't even think of that!

Either way, I predict that FFXIII-2 will fail - miserably - and SE will fold leaving WB Games free to pick up Eidos so that it and Rocksteady can keep cranking out awesome DC Comics games. And the Final Fantasy name? It can either die in a fire or get picked up by some one else who knows what the fuck they're doing.

I didn't really notice the linearity of X until I thought back on it. I mean, they've all been linear in terms of story progression, for obvious reasons. However, X was the first FF that was basically on-the-rails and you couldn't just freely roam about. That's the only reason I can think of when it comes to why they'd remake X before other obvious choices. I didn't understand the appeal of X. I liked it, and I liked/tolerated X-2, due to absolutely loving the battle system. However, X just seemed like another title to me, it didn't really seem groundbreaking, unless we're talking graphics for the time. I don't know.

It probably stems from the fact that Tidus is - love him or hate - more of the traditional FF main protagonist than Cloud is. Compare Tidus with Locke, Bartz, the Onion Kids, and so forth and you can begin to see his appeal. And, quite frankly, they did put a LOT of fucking effort into that game that only the most jaded of fuckers would sneer at. It may have been on rails, but at least it kept you entertained (most of the time), unlike FFXIII.

Now FFX-2? That game can go eat a bag of shit. I just hate that game on principle; it trashes one the better endings in both the series and video games by arbitrarily bringing back Tidus, negating any sense of sacrifice or his role within the first game.

What I don't get is why do it in such a retarded manner. If you're going to remake a game for next (or I guess this gen) consoles.. Why not do something different with it? I enjoyed X, but it's not really worthy of a remake.

But if they did something new with it; Changed the story, changed the battle system. You know, did something radical and interesting it would be a worthwhile venture. That said, I don't think SE has the talent to do that anymore. They keep getting stuck doing the same stupid things over and over again.

Because doing so would require actual talent and a brain. People have been giving Inafune shit for stating the obvious: the Japanese-side of the industry is even more shit than the West.

I don't know, I'm told that the boobs on Lightning's sister were ULTRA REALISTIC and you could watch rain slide down them. So I'm pretty sure the game sold like fucking hot cakes.
