do we have an official release date yet? or still just "sometime in 2012"?
also, is the PS3 version supposed to drop when 2.0 goes live? or will they release the PC verseion first? all the details i've come across are from a month or two ago

no official date yet, currently it's going through alpha 1, so there is 3 alpha sessions then beta, how long beta will take will depend on how many bugs their is. Right now people are predicting a march release but there is rumors of a june release.
while that happens here is another video

Just to give everyone some insight on what happened with FFXIV..
FFXIV Failed Hard when it was released, however Square Enix
realised they made a big big mistake and made the tough choices they needed to
bring this game back on track.
Basically they admitted that before FFXIV there was never a
FF game which they considered as a failure. So they brought in a new team, sacked
the old one and planned to rebuild and make it the game they originally
promised.
But before they could do that, they needed to make the
existing version playable for those who stuck around. So for the last 2 years
or so, they have been adding story, dungeons, instances, overhauling UI and
have made vast improvements to nearly every aspect of this game even though
their ultimate plan was to scrap it and rebuild it as new.
Now you have to give SE some credit for this, they could
have easily of just let it die, cut their losses and made a new game. Instead
they have persevered and strived to live up to their promises.
I can honestly say even now the game in its current state is
somewhat of a huge achievement. Despite its awful start, the servers have never
been empty, at one point they started to dwindle but nothing near like what SWTOR
and DCUO ever did. Toward the end there has been enough content and thrilling
gameplay (To all you haters: if you’ve never tried the Ifrit battle (Hard) or
To kill a Raven quest battle, your opinions are moot) Mainly there has been a
sense of community which I have never found in any other MMO other than XI, and yes to
clarify I have played many a MMO.
Finally the way they are ending this version is truly epic
and something which has never happened before in a game of this sort. The story
has slowly lead to the upcoming destruction of the world and instead of just
switching servers off and turning new ones on, they have developed some amazing
content which leads to the transition. When I logged in this week I oculd truely feel the
sense of despair and the atmosphere is incredibly unnerving. Tomorrow morning
there will be a war and the conclusion
of that war will be a meteor hitting the planet which will pave the way for a
whole new game (a game SE cannot afford to screw up)
ARR has been developed not only by the new team but by its dedicated
players everything the they have said they wanted via surveys and forum threads,
SE has listened implemented as much as they can in the current version and I
have no doubt will continue to implement.
I have complete confidence ARR will be a huge success. Simply
because SE cannot afford to mess this up, they would lose all credibility which
would inevitably have massive repercussions to their reputation and profits.
They have invested too much in this to get it wrong!
For anyone interested... this is what happened when the servers closed this morning
