Here's been my expereince with the Promyvions:

Shade gear does intimidate the boss. Also, you do not have to be engaged for the Empty Killer to take effect. I grabbed hate during our Dem run and intimidated the boss twice as I kited him.

Medicines are very important. Didn't use any in Mea and got very lucky. Didn't use any in Dem at first and failed 3 times (once I took meds, next two times everyone did). Used them in Holla (forgot my Yag drinks though ><) and won first time.

Kiting can help out. We kited the Dem boss and that strategy ended up winning us the Promy. For the Holla boss, we had the tank actually tank the boss. Anyone who got aggro kited the boss around until the tank could get back hate (basically voke timer) keeping close enough to one of the mages for healing. I lent our tank two pieces of Shade gear I had bought for my Rdm. By the time I calmed down enough to read the battle log, half the battle was off screen, but there were three instances of intimidation caused by the gear not sure if there were any earlier.

Meds I took (as both Blm/Rdm and Rdm/Blm):

Dem
Rollandberry Pie (Rdm)
Yagudo Drinks x4
Muslum x12
Ether x2
Hi-Ether x3
X-Potion x2

Holla
Apple Pie +1 (Blm)
Ether x2
Muslum x 14
X-Potion x2
Echo Drops x12
Poison Potions x12
Holy Water x12

What I should have brought to Dem:
au laits

and to Holla:
Yagudo Drinks
Eye Drops x12
Antidotes x12
Melon Pie+1

Medicine is very expensive. I didn't keep a running total, but I'm guessing I spent 50k+ on meds/food/drinks for four Promyvion runs. It is best if the entire group has meds (I divided up holy waters, posion potions, echo drops, and some potions to other team members, you dont need a full stack yourself). Be careful with some ethers. There is a casting delay penatly (I even knew there was one, and still was surprised for a couple seconds). I tried to spread things out. Kept myself under juice most of the battle. Used one of the ethers early. Next time I needed an MP boost, chugged as many Muslums as I could. Then followed up with an ether when needed.

Promyvion Mea

My party setup

Rng/Nin
Nin/War
Sum/Whm
Blm/Rdm (me)
Whm/Blm
Sam/???

Other party

Rng/Nin
War/Nin
Whm/???
Sum/Whm
???/???
???/???

Can't rembmer the third party.

Our LS joined with our sister LS to create parties for a Mea raid. We had a full alliance plus some (didn't know at the time that you were warped outside if you won ;.; so 3 ppl didn't get to fite).

An old friend who had completed two other promys came with us and guided us to the top. We were able to get to the top w/out much incident (one person missed a teleported and we dropped a level to pick him up). Considering this was our first Promy adventure we did pretty good. This was the only Promy we were able to do before the patch.

Our party was doing really well against the boss until it got to 30% or so. Then it started doing carosell (sp?) and AOE attack. Hate started bouncing around between the Whm and Rng. I used my first anima, the psychoanima, and intimidated it for 30s. I tried using my terroanima, but it didn't activate. I'm pretty sure I was too far away. Rng went down followed by Whm, then our Nin tank and Sam. I switched from nukes to healing the Smn as he continued to 2hr (not sure how many he got off, 2 or 3). I survived with 19 HP and our Smn was in the red, but we won! ^^b GO RAMUH! One of our other graoups made it successfully, the other one did not ;.;.

I then went 1/4 on Dem. Our first time there (two LS parties, we were 1/2). Dem was very very frustrating. Even with 2 anima each we still had issues. Our party that beat it was:

Rng/Nin
War/Nin
Blm/Rdm
Whm/Sum
Sum/Whm
Rdm/Blm (me)

We did the kiting strategy. I went in and Elemental Seal + Gravity. Then the War/Nin would kite the boss around. I reapplied Gravity either as it wore or became available. I wasn't able to bind the boss, but I could bind the offsprings.

Now maybe it was a fluke, but after the first offspring spawned, our rng went to kill it; however, his shot on the boss grabbed hate and the offspring and the boss went for him. When the boss ran over the offspring, the offspring disappeared. Not sure if that was supposed to happen. Anyone else notice this? I was able to bind the offsprings though, buying time for mages or our rng to kill it. Also, try to keep the offspring near the boss when your Smn goes to 2hr. A single 2hr will wipe out any offsprings. If you can control the offsprings and keep your Smn alive long enough, you should win.

Holla had me worried (I think actually all of us, since it was our last promy till Meadows and our recent bout with Dem). Getting to the Holla boss sucks worse than the other two. Fences bar your way. Mobs aggro across fences. We went up with our party and another party that had been farming animas. We had five people die after someone D/Ced and the groups got seperated. We were able to reform, raise and continue on. We didn't want to stress out our Whm (whose main goals were keeping the tank and rng alive), so everyone had meds both to restore HP, status effects, and MP. Our party setup was:

War/Nin
Blm/Rdm (me)
Rng/Nin
Whm/Smn
Smn/Whm
Smn/Whm

Our Smns were worried that the AOE sleep would stop their 2hr ability by sleeping the avatar (which did delay one of the Smns 2hr). We had three psycho animas and at least two hysteranima. One person would save their psychoanima for an emergency. Smns saved their 2hr till boss was 40%ish left. When the Smns were ready for 2hr, they said so in party chat. Second Smn waited for the first Smns first Astral Flow to hit and the first Smn was getting ready for their second Astral Flow before using 2hr. Right before first Smn used Astral Flow one person used a Psychoanima to paralyze the mob. Then after about 20 seconds I used my Psychoanima and shortly after after a Hysterioanima. I then used my 2hr about the time as the second Smns first Astral Flow (completely ignoring hate at this point). Finishing blow was mine with a resisted Firaga for 19 dmg! ^^V lol Medicines are a must for this battle.

I beat every Promyvion with the same/similar setup of:

WAR/NIN (me)
WAR/NIN
WHM/BLM
RNG/NIN
SMN/WHM
BLM/WHM (RNG/NIN in Mea, BLM for Dem and Holla)

We won the first time everytime, we used about 3 Animas I believe for each of them, we all used food, mages used drinks and our strategy was to basically dual blink tank it (it was me and my friend, so we worked together well, we managed hate well and minimized damage) and wittle the boss' HP down slowly until about 50%, at the point we'd use an Anima and then once the boss was down to 30% we unleashed everything we had to take it out, Astral Flow, Eagle Eye Shot, Mighty Strikes and our remaining Anima, the only boss we had trouble with was Mea, which we barely won against, but we did, Holla was decently challenged and Dem was a joke, its all about having the right combo of jobs and players who know what they are doing

There's a lady who gives you the map for the first two Tavnazian areas as well as the city. I forgot the name, but she's in the cave just to the right of the shrine, near the bridge. You'll have to bring her an item found at a ??? on the top floor after talking and then go talk to a guard who is also posted near the bridge. After that you should get your maps.

Hmm... I never have spent that much money for Promyvions as Xave is suggesting. I just bring one hi-ether and one yagudo drink along with some echo drops and I am pretty much set for the fight (as SMN)Tanks just bring regular food, good equip, and that's about it.^^
However if it is Holla, I bring poison pots and holy waters.. 3 poison and 3 holy waters is a must.. Don't forget your reraise scroll though.^^
Oh and one last note, don't forget your goblin chocolates after resting for the MR fights. It lets you gain more mp back while resting. XD

I'd like to think that my current purpose in FF XI is to set up CoP missions for my LS. After all, we are dying to see the new zone, nicknamed "sea" (kinda like sky for ZM).

So far, I'm 6/7 on Promyvion runs, still trying to get a few more people up to chapter 2 before starting the Minotaur and the Riverne missions. Here's some of my advice for Promies:

Dem:

Only did this one once, and was by far the easiest. My party was WAR, NIN, SMN (me), BLM, BLM, WHM.

Getting up was a bit tough when we ran into lots of aggro on floor 3. But the boss itself was cake for my team. First offspring died very, very quickly from 2 BLMs nuking it to bits. WAR and NIN dual-blink tanked the boss, and when the boss started spawning more and more offspring in the second half of the fight, I sent in Ramuh to take them all out at once. No animas used, I think, finishing blow was a nice 429 shot from Ramuh. Won flawlessly, with no deaths.

Here are the main attacks I remember from the boss:

Spirit Absorbtion - 200 HP drain, annoying but not as bad as Holla's drain spell.
Fission - Creates an offspring. Doesn't have that much HP, maybe 300-400.
Vanity Drive - Direct damage.

Mea:

2/3 on this one. Getting up there was always cake, but this boss I do not like. Then again, I only lost that one time because my party leader (the infamous Blazingtiger of Bismarck) decided to build a party with no Provoke (!!!). Hate issues galore . . . and then the boss practically one-shotted me with Carousel (lousy Astral Rings . . .).

Next 2 times were much easier. Each time we did suffer a casualty, admittedly, but still managed to take down the boss without too much trouble. Party was WAR, WAR, SMN, BLM, BLM, WHM, then later WAR, WAR, RNG, SMN, BLM, WHM.

Here's the bosses main specials:

Carousel - 200-300 AOE damage, definitely watch out for this one.
Impalation - Same as throat stab, takes out an insane chunk of HP, but cannot kill you. Also resets hate. Don't think blink absorbs this . . .
Empty Thrash - Directional physical attack, does ~200-250 damage, I believe.
Brain Spike - Damage, maybe special effect? Not too sure . . .
Murk - AOE Slow and Gravity, I hate this . . .
Promyvion Brune - AOE Poison, kinda painful but not my biggest concern.
Material Fend - Evasion boost. Shame no Dispel or Finale at this level . . . at least your main damage will be coming from spells or summons toward the end, I hope.

Holla:

My first one, and from what I've heard this one is the hardest. I'm 3/3 for it, but each victory did come with a casualty. And yes, Holla floor 2 is annoying due to those stupid fences.

It all comes down to being prepared. And by being prepared, I mean no buffs for the boss, not even food. And just to be safe, even the mages don't get buffs. Useless Bars, useless food like Bubble Chocolate, and Blink's all you're allowed. Oh, and signet. tongue.gif My party was much the same as Dem and Mea, except with an occasional second SMN instead of second BLM.

Here's all I remember the boss using. It's not much, but if you can survive the first two, there's not much else to this fight:

Trinary Absorbtion - Takes 3 buffs from you and gives it to the boss. If no buffs, then it drains upwards to ~300 HP. Cast lots of dummy buffs to prevent this (we use Barsleep and Barstone). If you don't, the boss will keep regening 300 HP every few seconds toward the end, which makes it very, very hard to kill it.
Shadow Spread - AOE Curse and Sleep. My first time in Holla, both I and the other SMN each lost 2 astral flows apiece to this one. It sleeps the avatar as it is prepping the Astral, so your timer resets but no attack is carried out. Bring Poison Potions and Holy Waters!!! A must for melee, and a good idea for mages. A good strategy to avoid losing 2-hrs to this is to use a Hysteroanima just before blasting it.
Empty Cutter - Direct damage. After the last 2 attacks, are you even concerned about this?
Some sort of AOE, I forgot the name, but it was weaker than Mea's Carousel attack. Only did 150-200 to my SMN each time I got hit by it, as opposed to Mea's 250-300.

Note that I may have forgotten some boss attacks, but those are the main ones to watch out for.

One last piece of advice for SMNs, have a BLM "test nuke" with each element to see what the boss is weak to. If you choose the wrong astral flow, it will do maybe 20-50 damage!!! You cannot afford this! Make sure your BLM nukes with each element, then tells you the elements that have hit for full damage. If it hits for full damage at least once, then the boss will not fully resist that. I've done this method every time, and I've yet to fail to land a full-damage Astral Flow (except that one time when the Holla boss absorbed shell . . . reduced Astral by ~30-40 points).

Now, onwards to chapter 2 . . .

Anyhow, on our fifth try, we finally knocked this off.

our party setup was: nin/rng/rng/whm/rdm/bst

From this setup, the only "vital" jobs were probably whm and rdm. The whm must have erase, and the rdm is handy for gravity as well as for dispel.

All melees had reraise torques (cept nin) and loaded inventory w/ hyper potions (2, 1 foromega, 1 for ultima), hi-pots, antidotes, and 1 icarus. The nin had 2 bat earrings and blinding potions.

I think the key was really endurance as well as damage output. We chose to go for damage output by using bst instead of having smn/rdm/whm backline. I think you can go either way.

Also, there's a very nice tip in that, Ultima and Omega do NOT regen hp. So fight them where you zone-in. Then if you wipe, wait for him to mvoe away, reraise, med up, and start over with him knocked way down! We wiped on ultima with him at 10%. Reraised, rested, stood up and just waxed him after that. I'd only do this on ultima though; if you wipe to omega, finish the fight and then leave and restart the bcnm as time will be too much of an issue.

Also, some people would say no CCB, but if you can farm them, definately take them. The last 10-20% of these mobs is pure suicide. They spam crazy AoE attacks that really do serious damage. Omega has Pile Pitch (think throat stab but faster), and Ultima is just nuts when he goes bonkers. Wack 'em w/ CCB and then you're golden.

If you have a pld tank, i'd think you still can get away with bat earrings and blinding pots. Even the bst was able to evade a lot of his attacks. I think ninja is "best" but that has its own risks. If ninja makes a mistake, can easily get 2 shot, and ultima's slow/elegy is very brutal. (we hasted me for faster erase).

Just to share recent expereince with Promyvion Spire fights....

It was much easier and timely to get to Spire with 6 people instead of an alliance of people who all need it.

Party Setup (all fights):
RNG / NIN
RNG / NIN
RNG / NIN
NIN / WAR
WAR / NIN
WHM / BLM

- Two of the rangers leveled RNG purely for Promyvion.
- Don't skimp on meds....when you think you're prepared with potion/poison/food ...buy more.
- Macro potions, meds, etc. don't waste time navigating menus.

as NIN/WAR i brought
5-6 Hi-Potions, Hi-Potions+1, X-Potions
Poison Potions
Echo Drops
Persikos au Lait (HP Regen for poison)

- Cleared all boss fights in 6-7 minutes.
- Animas were very helpful, a must for Holla IMO.
- Similarly to Maat fight, tanks use potions after every 1-3 hits.
- Mea and Dem went head-to-head tanking (as long as possible) while rangers just tore away mobs HP spacing out animas.

To avoid repeating what anyone has previously posted....here was our strategy for Spire-Holla:
- Had 3 Rangers and 3 Kiting Animas (Terro?)
- Ping ponged hate with tanks until 60-75% health
- One at a time, RNG Eagle Eye Shot and immediately used TerroAnima spacing out EES with RNG melee in between 2hrs.

Went extremely smooth, all spires no casualties.

Was worth the money on food/equipment to do it right.

We recently beat Ouryu, and he can be a pain. First have to climb Riverne - Site #B01, which is actually a little easier than A01. It's a fast run if you have competant people. Once you get there be sure to check the day. The ideal day for fighting him is windsday, making worst day for fighting earthsday (I zoned into monarch linn @ 1:00 on earthsday, I was pissed). He's obviously earthbased, so keep that in mind when doing sc's/nukes/debuffs.

The major prep you're going to want for this fight is mismelt items. There's a quest you can do in Tavnazian safehold that gives you a mismelt. I think it's given by a woman in the bottom level of the main floor (entrance floor from lufaise). She's down by the underground river if I remember right. If you give her two hyppogriff tailfeather's she'll give you a mismelt. These are used for forcing Ouryu to the ground when he takes off. If he takes off use a mismelt to ground him, otherwise only ranged attacks and nukes can land. He also uses AoE's from the air (stonaga II if I remember) and does a decent amount of dmg when he lands if you're nearby. Also - be sure whoever is going to use the mismelts is the one who trades the feathers. The mismelts are rare/ex, the feathers are not. We had our whm go get all the mismelts, then he was stuck with grounding the mob every time, not exactly ideal. I think we ended up using 6 of these in our fight.

All melee should bring au laits, reraise of some sort, hi-pots, and probably an icarus wing. It's also nice if the pld has a curaga earring, helps keep the melee all healed and I *think* helps him keep hate. Our Pld is uber, so he brough multiple X-pots too, which probably kept him alive as long as he did (I think he used 3 of them). Mages bring the obvious yag drinks and ethers, as well as a couple hi pots.

Since Ouryu is stone-based there's some things to watch out for. First if all stoneskin. Try to keep an eye on your dmg and his casting, you don't want to do any high dmg moves when he has this up. If you have a rdm have him watch this and dispell it immediately, otherwise just pummel him until it's down. Secondly, as I said before, he likes to use Stonaga II. He casts it while in the air and on the ground, so have melee that are subbing nin or nin's keep an eye out for this, and try to keep health up with Hi pots to avoid biting it from a couple of these. Silence is great if you can get it to stick, which shouldn't be too much of a problem. Our whm was getting silence to stick pretty well, but he was using really nice food and gear as well. Also - one thing we were NOT prepared was invincible. Surprisingly I didn't see any guides that talked about this before we went in. Luckily we were able to do some dry runs and find that he used this. It's not too difficult to sleep him, so when he uses it be sure the melee let the mages know right away and have a mage sleep him. This is a great time to rest and use some potions if you're low on HP. Our whm slept him with no difficulty, but he had some +int gear on, might want to keep this in mind.

Keep all this in mind, and time your 2 hours out right, and you should have it. He only needs to be down to ~30% in order to win the fight, so don't hold your 2 hours off until the very end (we used around 50-60%). Dry runs help a lot (true of all PM's imo). They let you get comfortable and prepare for unexpected. Just have the whm reraise once you're inside, and don't fret about loosing a little xp, you're only loosing it off level 50 =P

What we were trying to pull off but didnt quite manage was a Fragmentation chain MB'd by Astral Flow with Garuda. If you time it right with icarus wings you can do it twice, making this fight significantly easier. SMN's are nice for this fight cause they can keep stoneskin up on the melee, which helps significantly with all the AoE and dmg he does when he lands. Be sure you wait to do SC's until after he's just landed so he doesn't take off in the middle of it. Good luck.

P.S. this is a rough fight. my PM static is pretty good, and this was the first BC we thought we were going to actually loose. Pld died @ about 50% health and our Nin did best he could, but with -aga's nin is less than ideal for tanking. luckily we pulled it off right at the end.

Thats a link to my linkshells website guide section. I wrote them all because when we started chains, there was no info. It goes through chapter 7, I'm still writing chapter 8...tricky to explain that one. Ircgeek was nice enough to post maps with paths drawn out and everyone has added their own little notes. Hope it helps, good luck!

That guy is sooooo biased and stupid.

Most of the jobs he hates can actually work of very good. And his own job BRD is actually one of the less useful jobs for promy's

I must agree with above poster . . . My main job is BRD, and although BRDs are good for later PMs, I would not recommend them for Promies. I leveled SMN solely for Promies, and once I get Fenrir I hope to take SMN up to 50 or 60.
