A Fun Fact About Sleep

That i accidentally discovered one day. I'm sure it's been discovered before, and if you all already know this.... damn.

Anyhoo.

You can debuff without waking the monster up, so long as no actual (hp) damage is done.
Blind, paralyze, slow, bind, etc.
Dia, Bio and elemental debuffs will break the sleep, as they do damage.
Aspir doesn't seem to break it, either. Fun possibilities ^^

Note that i have had things wake up from being debuffed while asleep. They seemed to, at least. Mainly (only) quadavs, and not always. Not sure why, probably a check to see 'how asleep' they were or something. Maybe coincidence.

Soloing became possible again when i noticed this smile.gif
Not easy, not efficient, but possible.

Hehe, you can also have people provoke it w/o waking it. That way, if you are dealing w/ a bad link, you sleep, and someone vokes. When it wakes, it doesn't munch the blm but a melee, giving you enough time to resleep it. smile.gif

I believe that any change to a sleepers HP will wake it up, regen(theory) included. If anyone has proof of this, I'd like to hear it

I know that I can slow or para a baddie that the bard has put to sleep without waking it up so yet another tiny bit of evidence that its based on affecting their HP.

What if you have regen casted on yourself, and something sleeps you?

yeah you wake up. Though I WOULD like to know if your party would wake up from the bard's HP raising song, (apologies I am not familiar with bards much but I'm talking about the song they have that raises everyone's HP slowly.) It would be interesting to see if any bards out there can answer that from their personal knowledge on if they've been able to awaken their party from a song. Heck. if all else fails, your WHM SHOULD have been doing her job and have been far enough away if at all possible she didn't get sleeped (slept? meh its late for me) and should pop that curaga off real kwik on the main tank to wake everyone up. yeh yeh I know curaga is a no no while fighting at lower lvls. higher up it doesn't attract nearly the hate it used to and is the standard way to wake the whole party up.

Regan-type spells *including bard songs* well NOT wake you up from sleep. Ive had to many times where Mandras at Kazham keep puting me to sleep with regen on me and it sticks. Cure well wake up the person though.

  • That had to hurt. I felt it too.

Thus the standard tactic of poison potions in the BCNM mandra fights. If I see a sleeper ready something stupid like AoE sleep, I'm gonna take the last few seconds to pull hate. Generally I avoid meleeing against sleepers (leave that arguement elsewhere, please) but if I pull hate when he aoes us, I can get everyone awake pretty fast.

Good question. Since it's the same color as the face, i would say it's a hand.... But let's call it a water pistol instead.

Enfeeble +

INT. Some mobs are more resistant than others, so if you're in a pinch try hitting

elemental seal before you cast. That should do the trick.

In terms of

sleep not hitting, when i'm playing black mage, i never use elemental seal unless it's

right before sleeping a bad link or something. This will really help.

Also, another

trick for the bards. Bard can sleep then hit it w/ dark threnody. Then the next sleep will

really put the mob out caus eyou've lowered it's dark resist.
