General AF Question

I got a

question for the higher-level PLDs in house.

I'm in a very guild-oriented LS. We

like to do things the way they were "supposed" to get done. Meaning... back when we

were newbies w/ no subjob, we went at lvl 18 to gusgen mines and slayed hundreds of ghouls

in a few nights with no outside help of any higher level people and got our skulls. (Felt

very rewarding) As another example, we actually raided Delk's Tower at level 30 with 12

people and fought all the way to the top, killed the NM twice and completed Rank 4, rather

than have a couple higher-levels slay everything in our way to make it easier.

Do

you see where I am coming from?

Now, many of us are encroaching upon level 42 and are

itching to get started on our AF and finish up Mission 10 for Rank 5. I understand that for

PLD AF1 I have to kill Polevik (that elemental) in Ordelle's.

In trying to keep

the game challenging, is this NM doable by a 6 member group @ 42? I ask because I have a

good friend who is lvl 60 who told me that doing AF is impossible without higher level help.

Is this true? I know that for some other AF quest you have to kill an NM in

Giddeus. The AF item is level 52... so I was thinking "Shouldn't a group of 52 be able

to handle this NM?" Ok, well maybe not a group, what if I bring 2 full groups of 52s?

The AF body piece is level 60.. so I would hope that when I hit level 60 I can kill

the 2 Orc NMs in Davoi. Is this doable by a group of 60s?

Part of the game is the

accomplishment of saying "Hey, I'm Level 75" while the other part which is just as

gratifying (and what I like) is "My Guild and I accomplished it."

I

definitely agree with you that AF quests SHOULD be completeable with a large enough group of

the levels appropriate to receive the quest. Having done all the Paladin AF quests/coffers

myself, and having assisted with a fair number of AF quests for other classes, I'd make the

following observations/recommendations:

Anything is possible with enough friends,

good equipment, and adequate preparation...Polemvic for Pld AF1 hits hard and has some nasty

spells, so make sure you have people able to Silence, and take earth-resisting gear and

accessories. The NM itself is a level 45 Earth Elemental. I'd say try it with a balanced

group of 6, and if it doesn't work out, go back with 12--Black Mages will help out

immensely, if you can keep the mob from going after them.

When I went to do AF2 at

level 54, people kept telling me it was impossible, and that you need a higher level group

...they were full of it. The NM isn't that tough, the real pain is getting there. A

balanced group of 6 around level 52-55 shouldn't have too much trouble. Of course, more

people can only help, provided you can sneak/invis them all to the quest spot.

Coffer

keys are always a royal pain because of the possibility of links, and once again,

conventional wisdom was "it's really hard/impossible"...which, once again, was bull.

Study the maps of the areas, scout out the locations of mobs with stealth spells, then pick

a good camp and have an escape plan. All the coffer key enemies can be handled with a group

of level ~55+, it just won't be easy.

AF 3 is a pain for any job, and Paladin is no

exception, but it is still doable without high-level help...take as many people as you can

get, but at least 2 full well-balanced groups. A full alliance of 18 is preferable...while

the alliance is assembled, it's usually best to do multiple AF3 quests. The area around

the Village Well in Davoi has some nasty high-tier orcs, and there is an Orcish Dreadnought

spawn point nearby, so you have to be careful, but it's nothing that teamwork shouldn't be

able to handle, especially if your group is level 58-60.

Sorry if this seems somewhat

rambling...hope that helps.
