I have
one of Brady Games' guide books and it gives the best suit ninjas in order of race. It
goes like this:
1. Mithra
2. Tarutaru
3. Galka (wtf?)
4. Elvaan
5.
Hume
I'm an Elvaan and I have my mind set on becoming a ninja. This guidebook does
not sway me. I am still, however, curious. Do the races matter that much? I looked at the
stats for each race of ninja and Elvaans didn't seem that bad.

Do the races really matter?

The
races don't matter to the point of make or break your character. You'll be fine.
And for the record the Brady Guides are worthless minus quest info, so much of the
game gets changed and player styles vary so much they're pretty worthless. Just ignore the
guide unless you need quest/mission info. And even then, usually players are a better source
of information.

only thing
i used the brady guide for was the Ws skillchain chart, and for checking mob / nm levels
heh. I use this site for quest info and speakeasy.org for maps
.
and on the topic
... how many galka mages do you see?
race does matter somewhat, but mostly it just
comes down to getting gear, like astral rings being level 10, obviously isn't for a
tarutaru, since that'll give you like 20hp at lvl 10, it's more for elvaans / galkas so
they can be more viable at a lower level as a mage.

Actually
one of the best summoners on Ragnarok is a Galka. And one of the better WHM's is one too.
But they're amazingly good and amazingly rich (to the point of them using staff switches to
maintain a brutal autorefresh and dish out damage and group buffs)

i
think astral rings are also for rich low lvl taru mages who have balls the size of a galka..
race doesnt matter for most melee jobs, its with the mages that the difference is really
noticable.. i.e. Elv make a decent whm with a lil +mp gear as they have best mnd, but they
make shitty blm since they have bad mp and shitty int, galka mages are just funny.. but with
enough skill anything can be pulled off

Well a
mithra would obviously be the best for ninja, because the way their stats are placed almost
perfectly complements the kind of stats ninjas are supposed to have. I agree that anything
can be pulled off if you have enough skill, but just remember that a mithra and an elvaan
can both wear the same stat boosting gear.
All the gear really does is make you
better, and would make you better than some other classes without the gear. Remember that
mithras can wear the same gear. I really dont see how tarutaru and galka got #2 and #3, i
mean its a damage class after all. Then again, Bradyguides probably didnt realize that
ninjas can be melee and tanks, and that they are hardly good for enfeebling until mid- to
high- levels.
And how did hume get in last and elvaan next to last? Elvaan stats
would boost the damage and Humes should do good because they are all-round, so they would be
good with the ninjitsu as well as still be decent with the damage. A galka would be
absolutely no good for a blink tank IMO, because ninjas arent meant to take any hits, and a
galka would take tons of hits, and not take them well because their a ninja.
I hope
all this made sense, i'm not completely here at the moment.

Race
really isn't that important for a ninja.... though, personally, I think a tank of any kind
should be on the higher end of the HP spectrum.... And since inevitably there will be times
when your blink will fail (silenced, petrified, fast,multi-hitting monster i.e. octopus etc
), it's probably a good idea to be able to take some damage while your whm fixes you or
your timer recharges or whatever... so really I wouldn't advise a taru to be a ninja...
but you'r elvaan so go for it.
