Djinn are no longer a viable mob for soloing. I've yet to try the Carby kiting method to see if they can be soloed that way, but it doesn't work to cast a spell corresponding on the day and have them explode anymore.
Thanks a lot, Squenix. You ruin everything good. :|

Elemental dmg does promote tp moves though, Enthunder had the first one i tried to solo pissed off, used dark wave penubrial impact and beserk before killing ramuh and very fast i might add

I had a similar feeling. If elemental attacks still speed up TP moves, all is not lost.. but its still nothing like Happy Iceday/Thundersday

I was sad to see that the Djinn guide was removed, as I found it very helpful. I know they nerfed it, but it provided a lot of information about how Djinns work. Also, Djinns are still very much a viable option for soloing, but really only on iceday/lightningday. I was out there pretty much each iceday/lightningday (thank god they are back-to-back), and I was getting upwards of 14-15k at level ~64 and it slowed down to about 6-8k/hour at level 68.

oh? i actually havent personally tested djinn since nerf, and havent received any info on what the changes are like other than 'its nerfed, they dont blow up like before'
If you can provide details about what djinn are like now I'd most gladly return that section to the guide with the appropriate changes. i still have that part in my com.

From what I can tell, the bombs still need to be "set". That is, they are safe for melee parties since they will not blow up unless elemental damage corresponding to the day is done to them. However, using day elemental damage does not guarantee that they will blow up. If they are set, they become like bombs in that when they use a TP move, it could possibly be Nocturnal Combustion. The thing that makes them better than bombs for soloing is the fact that they still gain TP when you use day elemental damage on them. It seem like on iceday if you do any ice damage to them they get 100% TP. They may not use it right away, but if you hit them twice more with elemental damage they'll almost immediately use a TP move. So they're constantly using TP moves, so they tend to blow up within a minute or two. On lucky streaks, I've managed to get chain 7s still.
Anyway, like I said, Iceday and Lightningday seem to be the only days when doing this is possible because of the avatars' "spikes" blood pacts. You would build up too much hate over time by casting elemental spells on them since Nocturnal Combustion is not guaranteed. In addition, killing with carby isn't a good idea because the djinn will never get set.
A couple of notes:

A couple of notes:
- * When using Frost Armor and Thunder Armor, it is often a good idea to manually remove the spikes effect from your character. In the event you were to get hit with the spikes up, there is a decent chance the djinn will use Nocturnal Combustion right away.
* Shiva seems to be a lot better at this than Ramuh. Ramuh dies very quickly and it may be a good idea to use Carbuncle every once in a while to wait for the Blood Pact timer to cool down.
* I've tried a couple camps for this. The best one by far was I believe listed as the first camp in the original post (the first group of djinn you see when zoning in from the northern-most Jugner zone).
* While the djinns often blow up fairly quickly, it may take a couple of resummons to kill some of them. Be sure to run far enough and resummon (carby-style). Since these avatars drain MP more quickly than Carby, it is a good idea to give yourself about 400-500 mp before starting a fight. Sicking Carby on a djinn as a last resort to run away is a good idea too.
* Be sure to note the day changes. If the day changes to Lightningday in the middle of a fight, be sure that the next avatar you summon is Ramuh, not Shiva.
* I killed these as SMN/BLM. Not because I was doing the elemental nuke thing, but because I wanted warp ^^. I found that getting to camp was easiest by taking the Batallia Downs campaign teleport and running through Batallia Downs. It is very simple to avoid the few things that aggro on the way to Vunkerl Inlet without sneak and invis. Once you are at camp, there is a pixie that comes by a couple times per hour if you need a cure or a Raise IV (I know it says Raise III, but that's garbage). Just be sure to note it's wandering area and don't die in the tunnel trying to zone a djinn.

I havent been able to do a thorough check... but it seems that they've cleared out a good part of Vunkerl Inlet. It seems almost empty in some parts, including the northern Djinn camp.. but I was just passing by doing a quest.. I might check the rest out later...
however, if its true for the rest of the zone, then they basically nerfed Djinn more..

I finally hit 75, and without annoying my friends to invite me for merit parties or campaign, I would rather solo my buffer against mobs, any good spots that i can earn some decent exp/hr 65-75 with campaign and the odd healing parties have made me want to solo again.
I read that the update will increase exp gained so is there any viable djinns or mobs that are easily killed that will be more enticing after this update?

the possibility is there..
i havent really checked on the camps in a while.. but the highest Djinn camps with enough Djinns to go around (since you kill so quickly) con at like DC to 75, which might be worth some good exp after the update..
of course, u might have to compete with leveling-in SMN ,but in that case, u can sync down to their level for even better exp

I'm a level 63 SMN now, and I've been trying to solo the Morozksdfh in Ule. Range. The problem is the tunnel that is recommended to kite in is filled with aggroing mobs. I'm assuming you're just supposed to cast sneak and kite in there? I don't really like doing that because I'm going to assume that casting anything gives me more hate. ><; The open part before the tunnel that doesn't have any mobs is just a tad small, and it's kind of scary kiting in that small area. Do I just need to suck it up and keep Sneak up?
Also, sometimes while kiting I get a glitch where Carby is definitely dead, but hitting my summoning macro gives me a message something like, "Yutai already has a pet." and it won't do shit. It'll give me that message even though I hit the macro about 5 times, and then Carby'll finally summon and then of course I'm gunna get hit at that point because of the extra wait. Is there a way to explain this? Or is FFXI just hating me? XD

hey Yutai (and Spira maybe you can confirm this and add it to your guide if it helps) here's what i've done for years now to get around that glitch. it seems to be solid. i realized that this really only happened to me when my avatar was in the camera frame. regardless of whether i go behind a wall, or simple turn my camera view so that i can't see the avatar, as long as the avatar itself is 100% not on the screen (i've had it happen with just seeing carbuncle's tail before) it always keeps the glitch from happening, and i am able to resummon the same avatar right away. so in those instances where i'm not free to run a good distance from the fight, i always just spin the camera around when the avatar is close to death and then i'm good. sometimes to be safe i'll go behind a wall AND spin the camera around lol. but you get the point. keep the avatar out of frame and you'll minimize, if not isolate, this glitch

What are good soloing areas in mid 40 range (43+ to be exact)? Beaucedine FoV is rather difficult due to the Bat Eyes flying around, and it's too low for most bomb/snoll/djinn?

maybe you can check out snowballs in pso'xja. enter from the Nue tower. they're 43++ so probably might not be that good if u're already 43.. but it beats not having stuff to kill in FoV.. might be able to tide u a few levels.

I fought Explosures in Garlaige past the first banishing gate 46+ or so. It's an insane way to get xp, but if you've got the stomach for it, it can be quite rewarding.
The hard part is maintaining sneak the whole time since everything you'll be running past aggros to sound, and you can't cast it when the bomb is near or it will float over and bite you. There are also some weapons in some of the rooms, so you can't cast sneak or Carby in front of their doorways.
Usually when I ran looking for a recasting spot along the square hallway, I just found a place with no bats or doorways nearby so I could recast sneak and Carby safely. Also, there aren't ever any mobs by the Banishing Gate, so that was always a good recasting spot to turn to.
You can't afford to get hit by the bomb, both because that will remove your sneak effect and low health will aggro all the undead in the area for miles, so you always have to give yourself plenty of distance to recast Carby. You'll definitely want to keep a reraise scroll handy for an emergency reraise by the banishing gate if you get into trouble. If you can't make it to the gate, you're probably going to have to head for the home point because the undead aren't likely to let you raise anywhere else.
In any case, it's high stakes xp. Lots of risk, but lots of xp if you can manage it (getting your first chain 1 and 2 feel real good). And it's great training for future bomb soloing since it'll probably be less extreme by then.
