Something odd about Vorpal Scythe damage..

I've

noticed that Vorpal Scythe tends to land different amount damage depending on when it is

skill chained. Mind you, all speculation at the moment. ^^ I'll try to explain best I can.

(everything kinda fuzzy this early.. o.o)

The situation was Exp in Boyahada Tree and

during the skillchains Vorpal Scythe damage varied a lot. I started to pay attention more

and noticed it happened at certain points. The skillchain was a Pentathrust - > Vorpal

Scythe - > Seraph Blade bursting Holy and Freeze yadda yadda yadda. It just seemed to me

that whenever Vorpal Scythe landed at the same time as the Wyvern Breath attack it seemed

more powerful. I typically land it for 80-150.. something like that. (please dont laugh if

you do better ^^) But when timed during the Wyvern's breath attack the damage seemed to

jump to around 130-200 maybe a bit more. Thought it was just a fluke or something till I

tried it again. Seemed that it did more damage, but I'm not sure if its coincidence or not

so I was wondering if anything else noticed this. Is it the timing or am I just delusional

like my LS tells me? ^^ I know theres a fair amount of leeway for skillchains (2-4 seconds

is it?) but maybe theres an optimum point to land it or something? I dont know... maybe I

think too much? Much sorry, long post but I was really curious about it. Any info much

appreciated.

Scythe is a Critical WS. The dmg is varied depending on the amount of TP. Sometimes I would

dmg for 300 and others it would hit 120 with the same mob. Hope that helps.

could be. Forgot to mention that everytime I happened to use the WS tho it was around the

same TP roughly 100-110? Maybe a tad more but not much. And the same thing goes for Berserk,

Soul Eater, mithakabobs. Usually just under meat mitha kabobs. I dunno then.. too sleepy

I noticed

that my damage varies with Nightmare Scythe as well. However, I haven't seen that since we

changed our renkei assignment around. It used to be this:

One Inch Punch > Double

Thrust > Nightmare Scythe

Now it's just Nightmare Scythe > Double Thrust as we've

let loose our MNK and his Raging Fist XD Kind of hard to chain off of that with a DRG and

DRK ... >.>

Scythe's description.

It's basically a normal hit with an enhanced chance of doing

critical damage. The more TP you have before you use it, the more likely you are to do

critical.

I

normally Vorpal Scythe for 250ish on IT mobs, but on rare occasions it does over 550+ on the

same mob with the same amount of TP- 100%
For as far as i know that vorpal scythe and

guillotine (not sure about other weapon's weapon skill) has a chance to do CRITICAL damage

in between the hits... um.. example would be..

Vorpal Scythe description: Deals

critical damage, chance of critical varies by TP. Which means, if the critical check was

failed when you execute this WS, then the damage is the same as a normal hit.. (80-90.. or

100ish), but when it's passed the damage is equivalent to a critical hit (150ish-250ish)..

but then again, because this skill is consider a "normal hit" so ANOTHER critical-hit

check is made.. this check does not affected by the amount of TP you have, it's affected by

your DEX.. SO! if you makes a successful crit vorpal scythe + your regular critical hit

damage.. the damage is double boosted to 500+. and you get 2-5extra TP return than you would

get normally. ^^

it's the same reason that damage always varies =P. STR is a big factor in you damage range

..
