I think it's ok. Even in PTs. But a lot of people don't think the same, so I just use it for farming. Say goodbye to having to rest if you sub RDM during farming. Being able to cast the equivalent of Cure III with only 5 MP is nice.

Actually creativity should be encouraged. DRG is one of the few jobs where you get get away with such a subjob and have rather interesting, and useful results. The greatest amount of flexibility and utility comes from what your wyvern is capable of after setting up such a subjob. Granted it's not too great at lower levels (low mp, lack of spells..), but after level 40 it's rather useful. You and your wyvern will be saving mages left and right, curing status ailments, and pulling with incredible ease and safety. Also don't let people give you guff about losing attack power, the difference is negligible. Also before "seasoned" or "veteran" dragoons start flaming, I'm NOT saying don't sub WAR/THF/SAM, you can try whatever you like, just don't put down a person who tries to differ a bit. Also, I am aware that with WAR you get Berserk, Double Attack, STR and those stat boosts, THF gets DEX, evasion, and Sneak attack, and SAM loads of TP return and Meditate at 60+, so you don't have to remind me. Long story short. Try whatever subjob you like, stick with what works for you. As long as you're not an idiot and have a nice level of skill, you'll be an asset to any PT. But, if you don't like RDM, go play your WAR/THF/SAM/whatever subjob. I'm also glad that someone in the forum (Drakeblade) sees RDM subjob as useful (for PTs too).

I have actully seen this quite a few times. It's really not that bad ^^;. Although they may do less DPS the return in say a RDM main healer situation is quite beneficial. This replaces the Blm from having to backup heal and saves the party some much needed downtime. I say if the Drg wants to sub it throw him a refresh and let him go at it ^^.

I would use whm, but that may just be a personal thing. Basically you lose poison, blind, and bio from doing this, but I'm lvl 50 which means with whm sub I get auto-hp regen and pick up a little more mp than rdm sub would get
just personal prefernce though I guess. I only do this for farming cause there's almost 0 downtime (which I think is only possible with rdm or casting goon) In pt's people gnerally only look to goons as damage dealers so I usually have to use my thf sub there unless for some crazy reason they actually want me to use casting sub. I'd encourage you to lvl several subs for drg because part of the beauty of the job is the versatility.
