Hi, I'm am about to create my character and I was just wondering if I should become a BLM or DRK. I want to be able to do lots of damage and get regulkar invites. Here are the pros/cons I have thought off for each
BLM
pros: Best damage
cool little Taru
dont have to get advanced job and start lvling from 1 again
lots of Invites
cons: hard to lvl in begining
spells are expensive
hard to remember resistances
Not so "into" the batttle
DRK
Pros: cool armor/scythe
highest (arguably) melee damage dealer
cool AF armor
Cons: Not so many invites
have to start at lvl 1 when I get advanced job
What do you guys think? which should I choose?

You can't "create" a character with the Dark Knight job, it has to be quested. If you want to know what would be best suited as a sub for DRK later on, most people go with either WAR, Sam, or THF.

Dark Knight is an advanced and you'll need to level a job to 30 to get access to it, I'd suggest warrior because its a very stable subjob with lots of potential behind it.
Pick one or the other. I've never seen taru drk being all that hot but thats just me, a drk doesn't need a lot of MP and even a elvaan drk has plenty of mp to play with for many enemies before they need a refresh or need to rest. If you want to do drk do a melee sub like /war /thf /sam and you'll do better with what you need to do and thats make a lasting impression of damage.
On the flipside taru blm can be taken all the way without starting over from level 1 and you can still get invites fairly easily untill later in your career, then it becomes a waiting game like everyone else, the ammount of level 60+ characteres on Midgard has dropped by a LOT in the past month due to people quiting, this might actually be a good thing because its easier for people to find groups because people arn't looking for the "optimum" party.

it doesn't (imo) look like blm is very fun to play as
all you do is sit back and cast spells....poor mages
also, you're going to have to constantly lvl up your subjob for a blm too, but with a drk, you lvl it to 30 and don't have to worry about lvling it till you're lvl 60

I've played as a Black Mage (with a Tarutaru character) and found it both dull and time-consuming. At least with a melee class, you can sit back and let the auto-attack do its thing if you're not completely captivated by the game.
I was out with a 58 Taru DRK/BLM questing for RSE keys and while the magic seemed to help once in a while, it wasn't anything to write home about. Warrior and Thief seem to be far better choices for a Dark Knight in my experience, though SE seems to have thought that DRK/BLM was a good combination for Tarutaru (*cough*Crystal Warriors*cough*).

I say play the class you like. Try them all. Some people love being BLMs, some people love being DRKs. People are different, find the job you enjoy and play it.
