Sub WHM so u can heal yourself if need be, have equipment that gives +CHR and keep your weapon skill up, just incase u need to fight also u have the best skills pssible available. Get good Def and it wouldnt hurt to have a potion or such with you just incase things look bad.

yes this i knew, i was leaning towards stuff u learn actually playing the class, not what u get from common sense and general knowledge from playing other classes, i've done it all so far from tanks to casters to bard, i'd like tricks you would only pick up as a Bst.
basicly i'm trying to not repeat the mistakes of my predecessors, why re-invent the wheel all over again

Only tricks there are really is knowing what type of mob is stronger to the next. a Young galka in Bastok Mines shows u this diagram its also shown in the Offical Staregy Guid,e might be on here also but havent looked for t. The guide tells you like Insects->Plants->Aquans->Birds->Insects
Then you have Arcana<->Undead and Demon<->Dragon
Also, monsters they have a skill that has elemental damage, it takes signifigant effect on monsters that are weak to that type.
In a nutshell, Know You Elemental And Specie Weakness's

oooooh yah the species weakness thing, i just looked at it yesterday. aquans aren't on the same food chain as plant, its something like this
Plant -> Beast -> Lizard -> Insect -> Plant
Aquan -> Amorphous -> Flying -> Aquan (i think i have this one a little off)
It says arcana <-> undead and demon <-> dragon but are you even able to charm those types of mobs?

Yea I was at school and trying to remember the chart from memory of seeing it like 2 over 3 months ago. You'll prolly be able to charm them later lvls like maybe 60ish

You can't charm undead, dragons, demons, arcana, no.
We're true to our name. Beasts only. So no Yagudo, Quadavs, gigas, Orcs, Goblins. Then some confusing ones; Goobbue, Cockatrice, Morbols, Manticores, also cannot be charmed.
And stuff like jellies, raptors, and cactuars are highly resistant. Expect to fail charming those lots, even if they are DC or EM to you.

Just Curios if you y any chance you know the point of them putting it on the chart if they can never fight each other?

It's a natural circle of life, it's not just really for bsts. The NPC is just giving you information about predators and prey in the world of Vanadiel. That they included the demons, etc is just for completeness really - even though we can't charm them.

One of the things I'm curious myself is more along the lines of what do you target.
What level of mob do you target for charming, DC, EM T?
What mob do you sic them on, DC, EM, T, VT, ... dare i even mention IT?
Should I expect to be getting expchains, if so how high?
Does the pet attacking via Sic put aggro on me or the pet?
Should I melee along with the pet?
What are the change of tactics if I should, heaven forbid, join a party?

I'm going to try to answer Jespeots questions, but keep in mind, I'm only a lvl 11 Bst.
It's best to find an EM to charm. At my lower lvl (and considering I'm a taru), I don't like to fight to much with the creature. I often have the pet fight something, and I go off and kill an EP or rest. I do fight at the end sometimes if my pet is going to die right before the beast, or if there is nothing close by. Generaly I have my pet attack other EM or if there is a high concentration of pets around, I'll just toss them all at a T over and over. Kind of fun.
I've been told at higher lvls you can go after VT and sometimes IT (depending on how tough they actually are), but it always helps if you obey the creature chart. Very often you will see "this creature is intimidated by this other creatures pressence". It's basically a paralyze for free. I was told not to worry about this to much as it doesn't happen often, but I have found out quite different. At least up to my lvl, this happens at least every other fight as long as the creatures corispond correctly and they are not horrible unmatched on lvl.
I have not gotten a single chain so far, but this is also because I havn't really tried for any. I'm still getting the full learning experience from the job and having fun doing it.
Most any pet ability you initiate will put a certain lvl of hate on you. I've been told to stand outside of it's range when you do it, and it will usually not put the hate on you, but I havn't tried it to much yet.
You can melee along side your pet if you want. Keep in mind that you will probably not want to be the tank. A few options for this is using weaker weapons that your actual lvl or even pacing yourself during the fight. The pet is your tank. Keep that in mind and always try to keep it that way in my opinion. I play a taru BST/WHM so I have very little def and HP. I fight a lot with my pet just for fun but when I need to heal I'll have my pet fight something else (like a decent) and I'll just heal the whole time. Keeps the exp rolling in even while you heal.
If you join a party, (if a part ever invites you) you might want to sub war from what I've been told. This will make you a pretty decent damage dealer as well as have your pet attacking. Most people do not understand the BST job and will not ever invite you to a party. This is their loss. BST are great in parties as well. My highest lvl job is BLM 34. I've been in some great parties with BST. If you get link, they grab a new pet. If you think you might die from the beast, they can try to charm it and therefor get a new temp pet. The party now has 7 memebers. You will hear "you mess up the exp" quite often. You do not. Your pet only consumes a portion of your exp. The BST is the only member of the party that will have any exp penelty and it is quite low so this should never be a problem.
I hope I've helped a little.
By the way....i'm on the Garuda server and I would love to find a BST LS. If anyone has any information, please let me know.

I just hit level 14 last night and it's nice to finally be able to use a bunch of the items that have been consuming my MH space. I've been in a BST duo for the past few levels, and even though the XP isn't incredible, I am having a lot of fun.
I'm on Midgardsormr and I've been handing out pearls to our BST LS (Solitude) as I run into deserving Beastmasters in my travels. Send me a /tell or flag me down if you're interested.
Lily, I was wondering what emote you're using in that screenshot. I've been trying to find a hume emote with both arms out, but I haven't seen the right one in the many I've tried.

Yea - im about to become a level 25 BST and was wondering about sic. Now, for example, pugs have screwdriver - but they also have agua ball and water shield, etc. Does Sic randomly do one of its specials, do you get to choose, is it just one of its attacks, or is a completly custom attack different from its normal specials?

ironLotus, I am also on Midgard, and I'm a level 12bst. Using it right now to camp lizzy(me and my friend have killed her 13 times so far, no drop, but we're determined to get teh boots). Once I'm done, I'll be going to level bst. If you need some more LS members, just send me a /tell. In-game name is also Veubent. :-D
