Chi Blast

I'm not yet at the point that I have this ability, but I'm rapidly approaching it (now that I've finally been able to afford my Kote happy.gif).

I have read that Chi Blast is affected by one's MND stat. I personally use the Spike Necklace, but that's a big hit to my nice Elvaan MND. So, I've been thinking about the feasibility of buying a Holy Phial and switching them out before I fire Chi Blast (and, yes, I know all about Boosting beforehand, too). Something like this:

/equip neck "Holy Phial"
/ja "Chi Blast"
/equip neck "Spike Necklace"

There might have to be a wait or two in there, but it could be worked out. I'm simply wondering if it is worth it to lose the -6 MND and gain +3 for the brief duration of a Chi Blast?

Chi Blast is a level 41 Monk ability. It fires a Chi projectile (Chi being one's inner energy and a very important concept in Asian cultures) at an enemy. Since Monks don't have magic or worthwhile projectile weapons (oooh, a pebble), this is our ranged attack. I believe the cooldown is 3 minutes.

And, yes, if you've ever watched Dragonball, their energy blasts (such as a Kamehameha) are Chi blasts, though you might hear them described as Ki blasts. It's a language/cultural difference.

It's actually a big green ball =P
Looks kinda odd
Your idea is feasable, but I would test it first before you start saying that it works.
And check to see if there is an actual damage increase. A couple points doesn't count, but if it's a 10-20% chunk, go right ahead.

happy.gif I'm a big fan of the scientific method, yes. But I'm still 5 levels away and, given that I need to level Warrior and farm up some more gil for equipment, I don't know when I'll get them. But curiosity is driving me nuts, so I asked.

Mebbe there's a Monk around willing to test it out before I get to 41. If not, oh well, I'll just wait. If I have the patience to farm for Ochiudo's Kote, I'm sure I can handle waiting a few more levels.

Sorry if I'm veering off track, but you could tell me how? I've been farming for a month and only have 230k =(

I can help you with that. Chi Blast is NOT affected by your MND stat, so don't worry about your Spike Necklace. Chi Blast is actually affected by your Attack stat. If you use Chi Blast normally without doing anything, you'll most likely do about 20-30 damage. Not great. BUT, if you Boost a ton beforehand, you can do a ton of damage. I've done over 200 damage with Chi Blast before. Hope that helps. =D

Thank you, Dekker! happy.gif That saved me spending 30k on a Holy Phial for testing purposes in a couple levels.

As for affording the Kote, the trick is to find profitable places and do quests. I spent a day doing Windurst quests and alone made over 50k (most of which came from the Aspir scroll). It's incredibly boring, though, so you might want to have a friend around (in game or in real life) to talk to. Other options are to do quests for Teleport scrolls (and the like) or the RSE quest and pawn the stuff you don't need and won't use. That's next on my list so I can get my Fuma Kyahan.

Well, I used to use the justice badge before I used Chi Blast......and no it didnt help at all. You can do massive damage with Chi Blast tho, its pretty awesome. After we finish an xp chain, I start boosting immediately and as soon as we get the next mob to start another chain, BAM Chi Blast will hit for 320-380...It is badass. You have to have good timing tho, can't let the boost effect wear off.

I boost religiously whenever I have Monk as my main or sub (in fact, instead of a 15 second warning in my Provoke macro, I have a Boost). I cannot wait to deal serious damage like that because the one thing I truly miss when playing my Monk is that I don't have any worthwhile ranged attacks. Sniping with a bow is incredibly fun, but it just doesn't compare to Monk for me, so finally getting Chi Blast will be wonderful.

I usually only boost before I use a WS, and chi blast. I hope you aren't talking about having
"/p 15 seconds till Boost" in your macro. I would probably blist you on principle...I'll wait for you to reply before I speak further ><

Ive got a stacking macro where I have a wait timer between Boosts. Works really well and I've set it for 4 separate Boosts (its like auto pilot during downtime). If I have time for more I use my single Boost macro.

Chi blast isnt powerful without Boosts before hand. Baseline for me at lvl 42 is like 30-40 damage. After like 4 boosts, I can double that: 8 boosts basically quads it but you dont always have that kinda time to stack that many.

Also as a note, it looks way better used in engaged mode than freestanding mode since you actually make a fire motion with your right hand instead of doing a boost animation.

My Provoke macro is as follows (I developed this last night while levelling Warrior as Boost helps keep that extra bit of hate while tanking):

/p Using
/ja "Provoke"
/wait 15
/ja "Boost"
/wait 15
/p Provoke is ready!

Works nicely and I get a visual referent for the halfway mark, rather than hoping to spot the /echo in my battle spam.

Yeah Boost is great but if there is a hate imbalance and your tank is buggin, its going right for ya----specially when u spam 2 Raging Fists in one fight smile.gif

I have all the Mnk gear except the Kote and was wondering how you did it Onor. Its about 380k on Ramuh and I've got about 100k in gil after the Fumas, Gi and sitabaki. Just some pointers is all. Thanks (sorry for the post irrelavance of the last part)

I've posted about three times so far about how I managed to get my Kote, so I don't mind repeating. My advice isn't excessively helpful, though, I simply spent three weeks farming part-time. They're up to 400k on Asura and I spent most of my time in King Ranperre's Tomb or Giddeus, occasionally running around after Crawlers in Sarutabaruta. To be honest, I have no idea how I got half the money I did, but I do that all the time (forgetting where half my income comes from). Of course, at your level, you could always do BCNM 40 a couple times with friends/LS mates and likely have enough. I just insisted on getting my Kote as soon as possible because I'm obsessive like that. It got pretty bad when I was almost seeing them in my sleep, though. happy.gif;;;

And... I cannot wait for Raging Fists, either. Level 41 will be a very fun time for me, but I have to level Warrior or people will get annoyed with my under-levelled support job.

Awe man, shows how much I visit the forums >biggrin.gif. Had no idea that you posted this before. You're right though, BCNM is where its at. Thats where my lvl 53 drk comes in. Stuns and dmge dealing and some limited tanking proved reliable in the setup. Ive only done one round of 6 but I got 80k for doing only 3 hours of fighting....plus I got Utsusemi: Ni (i'd sell it but my buddies did me a favor and let me have it) Thanks dude.

To make the post relavant to the topic: CHI BLAST IS THE SHITE!!

Relevance is over-rated. Conversation, by nature, evolves. Besides, I got the answer to my question, so tangents are acceptable. happy.gif
