Sexual Harassment

Why is it that male Tarutaru players feel the urge to hump everything and everyone in sight?

I was minding my own busines, partying in CN with a pretty good group, when a player from another party, Locaste, started hanging around. After a while, he began to stand behind my character and spam the "welcome" emote, which we all know give the appearance of a tarutaru humping something. Yeah.

I asked him to stop in a /tell, but he continued on. And then he got what I can only presume was a fellow party member or a friend, Demiscellaneous, to join in harassing me.

At this point I was so upset I called a GM for the very first time in my life. This kind of thing is funny as a joke between friends, but certainly not OUT IN THE FIELD when a white mage is trying to do her fucking job without any distractions. Hello??? I have to pay close attention to the text log and my party's health? I don't NEED to see my poor character getting raped before my eyes!

The GM Allidan was very friendly and apologized for any offense I took, and gave me the standard "we will investigate the matter further." Since I have a screenshot of Demi humping me, with Locaste in the background behind my party, I do have concrete evidence. I believe the GM sent tells to Locaste and Demiscellaneous asking them about the incident, because they stopped shortly thereafter. I'm sure they denied it tongue.gif

I was so angry I was shaking, and I had to leave work early today because I couldn't even concentrate. This shit isn't funny. It's not a joke. It's a violation of the ToS, a violation of my personal space, and worst of all, prevents me from participating in a party at 100% efficiency. I've been nauseous and upset ever since.

Naturally these two have been blacklisted.

The scene of the crime:

(As a side note, I was raped online once before in 1997 in a virtual world called Dreamscape. I later became a moderator for that very same world for about a year. Only after people reported stuff like this to me did I ever begin to take offense . . . and realize just how my little avatar had been violated before.)

Meh you meet all kinds of people on online games. Personally I'm an elvaan so no1 really considers humpin me otherwise i threaten to smash em. Seriously its not really much to get all frazzled about sure its wrong on many many levels but its just a game and their just doing things to ur char. You were right to call a gm and u should continue to do so if people continue in the future but no need to let it get to u.

That sucks. I had a female Mithra harass my taru. She kept saying saying "Pets Atre" or "Hugs Atre".
Even after I told her to go away, and that she lacked equipment I find necessary for attraction, she kept on.

>.<

LMFAO

wow...just wow.

its a game, and whm is not a stressful job by any means...its actually pathetically easy
I sit on my whm, watch tv and debuff without even curing half the time due to having nin tanks...its probably one of the easiest jobs, unless you have to do status removal, which OMG!!! is maybe a few times a fight

playing games at work...you must work at a gass station or something..
getting MAD over a player welcoming you from behind in a video game...why not just ignore him..if you dont start freaking out screaming like a pinko commie, maybe he'll leave you alone..

I dont try to annoy people very much, but if I want to..and they dont respond, then I continue to do it until I get bored...and getting bored happends a lot quicker if they arent telling me to GET THE FUCK away, and calling GMs.

All I have to say is this: chill out, its a game, you are having fun, and aparently he is having fun humping you...take it as it comes... as it may be the only attention from the opposite sex you'll get for a long time :no

No, this happened while I was playing before work, but after I got to work I just sat at my desk and moped. ^^; I didn't get anything done so I called my manager and told her about it (she plays WoW) and she let me go.

I sure wish I could play at work o_o That would be awesome.

As for WHM being an easy job . . . yeah, it's not that hard at all -- when you're not the only mage in the whole party. So I was doing buffs, enfeebles, status removals (I <3 my new Erase), cures, and the occasional magic burst (BLM sub.) I had GOT to pay attention to the text log to see who has been poisoned (not always the tank), whose regen has worn off, who needs Cure II vs Cure III, etc. Plus getting that MB requires paying attention to the skillchain, too tongue.gif

Later on in that party our DRK got replace by a RDM and I had a much easier time.

I just ignore the annoying people. As long as they're not talking to me, they can be easily ingored. Even if they were talking to me, there's still /blist.

You must play on the PS2, because on the comp, whm is easy most times. Trust me, I know.

What server does she play on WoW?

damn..my manager is a bitch...if I asked to play games shed pimpslap me (thats right shes a pimp), and then fire me lol

anyways..yeh what demon said, ignore them! and if you really hate them, start telling people about them, and theyll begin to stop getting PT invites...I remember a mnk on our server was being a **** in our PT, and one of my friends, who is 75brd in the main hnmls on the server, spread the word, and he stopped getting invites to major hnm/god fights (he happend to not be a noob, was also a 75, and got pretty fucked)

Nope, I play on PC with pimped out graphics :3 Unfortunately, my keyboard is not terribly responsive so I'll need to jam down CTRL or ALT a few milliseconds before smashing the appropriate number key while macroing. It's not HARD HARD, it just requires me to pay attention. Which I can't do while my character is being anally raped before my eyes.

I think she plays on Dragonsblight or something like that. I don't play WoW so I wouldn't know for sure . . .

There should be a device that you can hook up to ur genitals so that when you do these sorta things and the person gets pissed off they can shock you there. But if they like it.... biggrin.gif

that sucks, and regardless of what anyone says, if you told them to stop and they didn't, there's nothing wrong with your reaction. Sure, personally I think you shouldn't have taken it so seriously, esp not enough to upset you at work, but regardless, they were asses for doing it, and you were def in the right to call a GM. Regardless of their uselessness for MPK and any "serious" matters, they're pretty good with dealing for harassment. Anyone swearing in shouts in jeuno is pretty much guaranteed a trip to jail on Seraph.

So yeah, just try not to let asses like that get to you.

Meh, if you are starting to get upset in RL over this game then its time to take a deep breath, maybe a short break and realize games shouldn't make you upset and affect your life which this seems to have done.

This is why i'm Galka...

People stand as far away as possible and Whm's cast Deodorize constantly on you during a pt...

Of course I didn't know this kinda stuff would happen when I chose Galka...

I know I overreacted . . . I think the reason it was flustering me so much at work is that I didn't get a chance to vent about it online before I went to work, so it just simmered and stewed and after about four hours boiled over.

But as for me getting upset about it in real life? That's not so unusual. I have an emotional investment in my character. I've been through life and death experiences with that character. I've laughed myself silly, cried once or twice, yelled a whole bunch in frustration, and made many, many good friends with that character. For all intents and purposes, you ARE your character in game, since it represents you in Vana'diel. Of course I'm gonna get upset in real life when my avatar is mistreated. I'd wouldn't be human otherwise.

Interesting.. I wholeheartedly agree with what you did Cat, and I can understand how you felt about it, as you said you essentially ARE your character in-game, and that's insulting to you if they are behaving as such. What few people realize is that yes, while this is a game and should only be that, harassment is a serious issue and can affect people in many different ways. Some might be able to just say 'oh well' and laugh or w/e, but for others, it's insulting and filthy really. Sorry ppl do that in-game (doesn't say much for their RL sparkling personalities does it?) I have noticed though that the GMs are cracking down a lot more on harassment issues.
