Nice guide. I'm 59 Goldsmithing, and here's a couple of notes on alternate routes if so desired.
~26-31 - Hiraishin: Fire, Copper Ingot x 1, Silver Ingot x 1
Depends on server economy. At the time on Unicorn, I could make the ingots for 15k/stack or buy them from the AH for 25k/stack, and the tools sold for 6k/stack. I broke even in this stage; the key is to be patient and sell off your tools on the AH. Then, start Mythril Ingots with Beastcoins and advanced support at 31.
52-54 - Gold Ingot: Fire, Gold Nugget x 6, Gold Ore x 1
Either find a high level alchemist to make them for you, or buy them on the AH when they go up (I found a stack a day or so). You have to be vigilant here, but it's very much worth it, as you DEFINITELY want to keep the Cuisses stage as small as possible. I actually profited off these ingots, since the price of Gold Nuggets was only about 60k/stack (outdated prices = win)
I'm currently in the process of capping my Goldsmithing at 60 gradually with Platinum Beastcoins; I get a couple of synths off per week. I've given up on ever getting it any higher without tens of millions of gil at my disposal, so I've taken up the relatively cheap Smithing instead =P Good luck to anyone with more of a pain threshold than me.

It was 75% waning moon last night, watersday so I decided to work on goldsmithing.
I think leveling guides are interesting to look at for reference, but you really need to do your homework on what synthesis materials are going for first, look at demand/price/availability.
1) Need alot of fire crystals, pricecheck - bastok was 7k, sandoria was 5k - mule buys a decent number of stacks.
2) Always used Adv. support, subbed THF for /flee to get to around faster
3) mules help, 2 accounts works even better
7-9 goldsmithing
-Alittle over 2 stacks of brass ingots when i finished, only 2 breaks.
9-10 goldsmithing
Made a stack of brass sheets from the ingots i had to get to 10skill, saved the rest of the brass ingots and sheets, didnt make any hairpins.
Now this is where i deviate from the normal guide, I go to refresh my advanced support after taking the guild test, and ask them what i should make. They tell me to carve a rock, that seems like quite a stretch (10+3 with support, they cap at 20 supposedly). Sounds pretty risky with alot of breaks....
10-12 goldsmithing (carve cheap rocks)
I go scrounge up a bunch of 1-2k rocks, get 2 stacks of wind crystals and give it a try. Amazingly when i failed i was only losing the crystal, and getting runs of .2 or .3 skillups. I get to about 12 skill, and decide to mix things up a bit and do silver ores into ingots. Again, nice skillups and im getting 90% success rate. The beauty of carving rocks instead of some crap like brass hairpins is that the end product STACKS.
I've stashed all the stones on a mule for the upcoming gemmed ring stage so i get 2 chances at using a crafted result in a skillup (yes you could desynth brass hairpins but skillup from desynth is always crap especially when you are still trying to skill on the synth).
12-18.4(currently) Goldsmithing ( mostly 4x silver ore+fire to make ingots)
Theres at least 3-6 people at the goldsmithing guild to buy silver ore, so once the shop gets drained the day after the guild holiday you'll be lucky to buy more than 12-16 ores the following days. This is part of the reason I was 'killing time' carving rocks i snagged from the AH and subsequently getting nice skillups.
Rocks kicked serious ass for me skilling, rarely did i make one and not get a skillup from it
I ran out of cheap rocks on all the auction houses around 15 skill, I shifted to mostly doing 4silver ores to ingots now (I NEVER USED BEASTCOINS, they are stupidly overpriced (10-12k a stack) on my server compared to 500-600gil for silver ores which is half cost. I was seeing alot of lost beastcoins from people synthing around me, i'd almost have to call 'bs' on the whole beastcoins are easier to synth, we were all facing the same direction so the whole crafting compass theory that my facing was different/better can be dismissed.
silver stacks are pushing 40-50k here, so if you camp the goldsmithing guild and the auction house for ores you can profit making silver ingots. Synth cost is about 2500gil to make an ingot x12 = 30k. I could sit on my butt and make ingots all day, ship them to jeuno mule, undercut and still make 9-15k profit a stack, but im saving all my ingots right now at 18.4 skill. There is a ridiculous number of rangers on this server, which has to be the reason silver is in such demand, lots of silver bullets flying around.
I'll continue to be patient and milk silver ingots until i cap on skill, theres no point to jump ahead to the next stage if you can skill on a money maker or break even at worst on a bad synthing run.
Doing 20-21 making sabiki rigs (more in demand than hairpin), then doing thieves tools 21-26 (again, result is stackable and consumable - preferable to straight loss skilling on hairpin) so I can get in range of hiraishin which i can always use myself as ninja and is consumable.
I love goldsmithing, even though im going to slow down after 30 and use alot of mule storage to cache items like silver bangles for guildpoints instead of vendoring/desynthing. Maybe by december ill have my glasses and be around 50-60 skill

if youre on asura server i'm currently leveling boneworking on bone patas right now. price will vary between 5k and 7k, depending availablity of materials in the AH and cost of making them.

Well i'm up to 25.9 now, I made sabiki rigs from 20-21 and actually sold them all off at cost.
21-24 on hairpins sucked, desynth rate is so bad sometimes its almost a waste of gil to spend a lightning crystal on them in hopes of getting your ingot back before 23.
started Hiraishin at 24 and have been making that and selling it at cost.
I pretty much camp the goldsmith guild for stuff, keeping at it making ingots to sell for profit and roll some of them over into my skilling on hiraishin. Milking this for all its worth until i cap at 31 before messing with gem rings.

Yeah, gold patas were good to me as well. A lot of people stick to gold/gem rings, but on my server, that's a tremendous amount of loss. Gold patas involve some loss too, but I'd rather part with one gold ingot to make a crappy item no one will buy than two ingots.
I'm kind of missing those gold patas and elemental beads right now; orichalcum is through the roof.
