Sin is probably gonna kill me for saying this but if you're looking for a good mnk to duel, look up sinistralx, his mnk is notorious back on bismarck for being extremely powerful and skillful. Galka mnk with tons of merits.

Has he transferred to our server? If not, I think a have a few monks in mind that surpass this MNKs gear, with Usukane, Relic knuckles, Faith Bankaghs, ect. >.>.. Should be a fun fight, and most likely I'll wind up eating some dirt throughout those matches, but it should be enough to illistrate my point. ^^

MNK can do 300-500 damage 5-hit Jumps in Ballista and outTP a DRG/SAM easily. I've seen it happen, it's totally insane if geared right. Easy +25% haste gear and +25 VIT makes them take hits from a 93d polearm as if it were hugs from one's elderly grandmother.

-Counterstance vs a /SAM job. Counterstance is always a no in ballista, no questions asked.
-Melee Cyclas.
-Optical Hat.

Yep, uncapped MNK is unfair.
There is no real way to stand up against a MNK/DRG 1 on 1 as a DRG, the way I play is making the most of what little I have.
Typical MNK/DRG has:
Kabuto
Osode
Melee Hands
Hadaite
Destroyers / Faiths
Bomb Queen Ring / Rajas / Jelly
Brutal / Wyvern Earring
Black Belt
There's even a new JP MNK that now shows up to ballistas as MNK/PLD with Usukane legs.
My strat is DRG/WAR with my Love Halberd and full offense set up, I run into the fray last and pound the MNKs from behind and maybe drag 1 off with me or finish him before he turns onto me.
With the full offense I hit with Love Halberd for about 100-150 (150 with zerk up) with a very high DA rate. Add in about 30-50 per hit if the wyvern is up. A completely God Geared MNK will hit for 90-110 but faster and can counter and has a ton more HP. If I can get 2 full rounds of swings off before the MNK turns, I can dish out a easy 400-600 damage and then cancel zerk and put defender up and fight, giving me a big upper hand.
I don't know what you're talking about a 93 damage polearm only doing 50 damage, maybe if the MNK had Sentinel >.> There is no way you should be hitting that soft.

I recently got Love Halberd and was considering using it in Ballista. With Brutal earring or /war you can effectively triple attack since it stacks, and quadruple attack with Homam Body...
Well I sub /SAM in ballista and have about 380 attack with my ballista gear, the MNK was decked out as I said and probably had like 70+30 VIT with a lot of high defense equips like KO and Kabuto, as well as Black Belt. 50 was at the low end but it was mostly 50-83 with Pentas not unlike 311-420.

Do you use meat kabobs? I have somewhere around +80 Att from gear and meatkabobs and zerk makes your damage go up big time. You are probably overloading acc, cause I have like +35 or so and I rarely miss.
You just want to make sure you get the 1st hit, and maybe a 2nd hit before they realize what's going on. Have a mage invis you lol

I just go all out offense, I'm kinda reckless with the defense, because I'm kind of torn between getting DD gear for the game, or getting ballista gear.

I have been reading through the great post and had a question concerning a match i have
been challenged to. First off I have never done ballista before. My drg is currently
level 61 and the subs i can use are either whm or war. Now my challenger is a pld/rdm.
I read through the thread as much as i could, (it's huge) but didn't see much about
this. The battle will be a level 60 cap and the pld is much more experienced than
me. I already know he is going to be using his AF gear because he doesn't have
anything else from that level left.
For my equip I have all AF, Dark Mezraq,beetle earring, tiger ring, courage ring,
drake ring, swordbelt, sword strap, and Scorpion harness. I can buy Pallas Bracelets for my
penta thrust if I need to. I have amemet mantle but that is
61.>< I know i will be using all AF with scorpion harness
and the rings and earrings I can replace to whatever you think would be best.
Now as for which sub i should use I am really at a loss for what to do. As
a pld/rdm he is going to have high def. and healing ability. If I sub war
I will be able to outdamage him and bring him down fastly, but he might
heal right back up. I could go as /whm and see who wears who out first.
As whm I will also have blink for shadows or stoneskin, other buffs, and spells like
dia for healing breath trigger. If we go /whm verse /rdm it might come
down to who silences who first for the win.
I am not sure of what the rules will be at this point concerning
2 hours, items, or starting buffs. Like I said I have never done
this before so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

With your sub options, it seems pretty unlikely you'll be able to win. Then again, I don't know how skilled or well geared you and the PLD are, so I can't really tell.
If you are DRG/WHM vs. PLD/RDM, you will not outlast him if he kills your wyvern 1st. If he doens't kill the wyvern 1st, you will outlast him, simple as that.
If you DRG/WAR, and are able to keep him interupted and stay away from his shield, you MIGHT have a small chance.

Sorry man, but this sounds like one of those fights where you will be eating dirt. No offense, but in situations like this you must be prepared; Proper subs and the right gear. At the moment you sound like a Dragoon who is just begining to dabble in Ballista. Nothing wrong with that ^^. Paladins are nearly unkillable now thanks to Shield Mastery. More often than not, they'll shield block your Jump, which means their spell likely won't be interrupted. Secondly, Shield Mastery gives them about 5% TP every time they block, and Shield Bash stuns 100% now. Not to mention they got Auto Refresh and some new refresh gear.
Man...fighting PLDs 1v1 3 years ago was >>SOOOO<< much easier....
Also if he's /BLU, you have no chance to survive. Make your time. Hahahaha.

He can win vs a PLD, just not 60 cap, and not without proper subs and gear unfortunately. I do hope he tries, though. It's a learning experience, after all, and a damn good one at that. Just be humble, accept defeat (Or, if you happen to win against this Ballista Vet, Nice job, Just make sure you don't fight dirty. =P) and congratulate him. Afterwards, use him for testing. Find what makes him tick, so to speak, and dedicate it to memory. Continue leveling, become stronger, attain proper sub jobs, and you'll be a great DRG one day for sure.
