[Note: This is a guide that I found on another forum; however, it is not entirely accurate. There are times when a certain craft is no longer effective for your level. Use your best judgement on crafting. happy.gif (Also, in case you're curious how effective this guide is, I'm currently a level 58 Craftsman of the Carpenter's Guild.)]

For you rangers out there who want to start crafting but dont have a clue, or need a hint on how to start, here is the path I took to get to skill 60.

Make sure to always use advance imgery, when crafting for skill ups. Also to start writing down recipes post 40 skill, because the net is currenlty lacking a lot.

Arrowood lumber [skill: 0-4]
Arrowood log + Wind crystal

Ash lumber [skill: 4-8]
Ash log + Wind crystal

Willow lumber [skill: 8-13]
Willow log + Wind crystal

Willow wand [skill: 13-14]
Willow lumber + Insect wing + Wind crystal

Maple sugar [skill: 14-21]
Maple log + Lightning Crystal

Silver arrows [skill: 21-29]
Silver arrowheads + Ash lumber + Yagudo fletchings + Earth crystal

Beetle arrows [skill: 29-39]
Beetle arrowheads + Arrowood lumber + Chocobo fetchings + Earth crystal

Horn arrows [skill: 39-49]
Horn arrowheads + Arrowood lumber + Bird fletchings + Earth crystal

Scorpion arrows [skill:49-59]
Scorpion arrowheads + Arrowood lumber + Insect fletchings + Earth crystal

Chest [skill:59-?]
2x Luan lumber + 3x Rattan lumber + Earth crystal

did you log for the wood or just buy it?

I haven't logged for wood ever. The cost and time is just not worth IMO. Also, unless you can HQ synth logs, it's not worth wasting the crystal. However, my method only works since I have spare gil lying around. Others may have to hoof it and go find the materials in the field.

Hatchets + Crystals add to the cost of logs/lumber. It's best to make a price-check on the total cost of gathering materials (whether through AH or lumbering).

This is just what I was looking for. I'm probably gonna camp lizzy, and spend all the money on getting crafting up to be able to make scorp arrows. What, approximately, is the cost of making 99 scorpion arrows if you synthesized without losses of material? I'm currently paying from 2000-2500 per stack (99) on the AH. If crafting them costs 1500, I'm not gonna bother to save 500 a stack.

Thanks smile.gif

Well let's see (based on my server prices):

[Note: Based on High-Quality synths]
Wind Crystals (x4-6) ~ 633 - 950
Arrowwod Log (x4-6) ~ 112 - 168

[Note: (x3) of the materials below becomes Scorpion Arrow (x99)]
Earth Crystals (x12) ~ 300
Scorpion Arrowheads (x12) ~ 1.6k
Insect Fletching (x12) ~ 450
Arrowwood Lumber (x12) ~ 745 - 1118

Scorpion Arrow (x99) = 1031.6~ - 1156

Scorpion Arrow (x99) (x4) = 4126.4~ - 4624

--------------------------------------------------

According to your AH price:

Scorpion Arrow (x99) (x4) = 8k - 10k

Even if the materials vary in prices a little bit, you can still see the massive savings you get. And that's only with 4 stacks. I go through over 8 stacks a hunt at my level.

Did I mention I can craft elemental arrows too? ^^

Yeah, that's totally worth it. Now getting there is the problem. What's the recipe for elemental arrows? If it costs the same as *buying* scorpion arrows, I think I'd do it.

Thanks for the info, Cwolf.

Oh, right, I had another question: I was told crafting silver arrows required some type of smithing. Is that correct, or is that to craft the arrowheads?

Also: Scorpion arrowheads and insect fletchlings. Are these regularly for sale on the AH? If they're not, I'm not about to level two more tradeskills to be able to make them.

Thanks tongue.gif

Elemental arrows are very hard to judge in price. The arrowheads fluctuate too much in price. However, I rarely craft elemental arrows unless I really need the extra damage. It costs significantly more than all other types of arrows before Scorpion Arrows.

All the woodworking stuff you make that list a secondary skill does not require that secondary skill; however, if your woodworking is not of a high enough skill level, your chance of failure for that product will increase.

I'm slowly working on bonecrafting at the moment since I want to make and sell +1 bows. (Taking my sweet time, not really interested in bonecraft. ^^wink.gif

Cwolf,

Do you buy the logs at the AH, or just at the guild shop in S'and?

Well I'm a lvl 30 rank 5 rng and did basically everything in the game besides doing a craft or fishing now seeing that i spent 6k a level on just arrows i decided that i needed to craft to save some gil so im stagnant in level for a while ........how fast did it take you to get to level 60 using your method ?

1. I buy my lumber at the AH, logs if I'm desperate for wood.

2. It took me approximately one weekend and a little bit to get to 59 from level 9.

Hmm.. I was wondering, do you know the recipe for shihei? I've been told it was a woodworking craft and was curious to what was needed to make it and what LV was required.

Im currently at lvl 2 Woodworking making the Arrowwood Lumber.
I went through about 4 stacks of Wind Crystals without a single gain, not even a .1
The gains went good until I hit 2, then they just stopped, should I just keep using the same method, or is there something better I could try.

Thanks biggrin.gif

I had about 65k to begin with. Most of the stuff I bought was from the guild itself. I LVed it to 24 this morning and now I'm down 20k... eh. I wasn't really keeping track, but most of the stuff I synthesized I sold to the AH and made most of my gil back. To be honest I don't think I lost THAT much gil since you will most likely gain it back through AH. Now if only people would buy my silver arrows =(. That's what's been holding me back really, and I don't feel like farming >.<
