Starting my nin after quitting at 50. East Ronfaure[s] kinda prevents me from using the Elemental Wheel nowdays, but I've managed to get to 55 where the bird's natural magic resist is killing my uncapped ninjutsu skill. So I have some questions:

1) If an elemental jutsu does zero damage, does the elemental debuff still land?

2) It's been bothering me for a bit, but... Does Blade:Retsu overwrite successful Paralysis/Jubaku spell? I've seen it return "No effect" messages if I ws before the spells are cast. I wonder if the game prioritizes Retsu or if they are equal (they certainly don't stack).

3) How long can I keep using Sai? Katanas and G.katanas are so scarce on the AH.

4) Do the negatives effects of Innin/Yonin still activate if the monster faces away from the requried direction?

Why? What's wrong with ninja?

No one has died in my exp parties so far... except when we were fighting Myradrosh, but that doesn't count.

People on these forums can't answer questions properly, so allow me.
The elemental buff still lands if I recall correctly.
Blade:retsu is basically a cheap jubaku, but no it doesn't overwrite the spell effect, and they don't stack, but you know, I believe you get a new Weaponskill at 50, use that instead....so you keep hate.
Some nins used Sai till 60, then switched to a higher base dmg katana. I personally upgraded whenever I could to have higher base dmg. Because keeping hate with dmg is better than
having skill gear that doesn't do much.
Innin and yonin tell you which way to face the mob, and when mob isn't facing you correctly the negative effects are still active while positive aren't, I know, it sux.
Nin isn't a bad job, people who play it turn it into a bad job because they don't know how to play it, it takes a really aggressive player who doesn't mind handling LS drama/shit in order to gear it properly.

Thank you for responding helpfully.

Been killing colibri which are wind aligned, so Earth based Blade:Chi does less damage compared to Ice based Retsu. I use Chi if i pt with an enfeeble-active mage.

Huton>Jubaku works well. Holding back on using Raiton>Hojo til outside of colibri since the resist rate would be higher.

Haven't read much into the thread, lazy and slightly rushed:

Leveling ninja from 37-50, what gear should I focus on? Should I dress it like any other DD or find an acc/eva balance? How big does the Lv40 elemental wheel come into play for hate and what katanas should I be using?

Thanks much.

EDIT: Also, food. Dorado sushi, Dumplings or what? :P

don't need anything stellar if you're just taking it from 37 to 50

Odds are I'll just use most of the SAM gear I have, then. I seem to get mostly sync parties, anyways.

Still, though, if anyone has any comments they would be appreciated. I play PLD, I play DD, but I've never really touched NIN.

Rice Dumplings are pretty good shit, but use sushi if your acc is really bad.

If you have space for tools, Ni wheel is pretty pwn through the 40s, and you dont really need any hq nuking gear(if any) to get decent results, as long as your ninjutsu skill is capped.
failing that, try and gear for some evasion, but dont sac all your acc and attack for it. Okote are good, even with the -5 evasion. dodge earrings too since they add evasion with no negative stats. etcetc, it's pretty easy to strike a decent balance of evasion/acc, especially with food.
Try and avoid using yonin when you get it if you're meleeing for hate. the drop in acc really isnt worth the enmity gained on voke. countless ninjas managed just fine without out it, it's by no means needed. Yonin is great if you're using the Ni wheel for hate though.

biggest problem is keeping hate with heavy melees. Yonin does make a difference but does not do the job of taking place of all the enfeebs for keeping hate.

Thanks for all the feedback, guys.

I've heard of someone who's leveled several job to 70~73 solely on Goblin pets. I'm thinking about doing this to get the job to 50, as I'd have a PL and I'm likely never touch it again. Not exactly the "right" place, but anyone have a link to a Goblin pet guide/general advice for finding my own by level?
