since this is aimed at beginners i would like to add seomthing about jack-o-lanters. i saw someone else posted about them earlier, but they havent made it onto the list. they add a static +10 acc and +10 eva.
i found these especially helpful in the jungle. a lot of ppl complain about tanking mandys and dont know where else to level. the +10 eva helps a lot, if you have really good gear. If you have stacked enough eva gear the extra 10 will allow you to almost solo tank. in addition, i believe that jack-o-lanterns have +dark resistance, which allows you to avoid be slept. and the +acc doesnt hurt.
once again, i dont think jack-o-lanterns are the best food all the time. earlier, you cant stack enough +eva gear to see results. and post ,amdys, the additional attack of naravin i think is very helpful. but mandys have low defense and the additional attack is not as needed, and with +25 eva from gear or more to go with the +10 from the food, you can tank mandys pretty effectively. at least that is what i have found

Hmmm ya but you have to realize something Every Ninja should be him/herself they should find what their weakness is and base some stuff in that to make themselfs better.. A Guild says you "should" do this when in fact you "shouldnt" not everyone has the same weaknesses

Telling everyone what race advantages are, basic tips, and types of food to use have nothing to do with your "weaknesses" logic >.>

It's good to have enmity gear swapping into your voke macro. For example I have for my voke macro:
1st line: /equip "Ear1" "Eris' Earring"
2nd line: /equip "Ear2" "Eris' Earring"
3rd line: /equip "Body" "Arhat's Gi"
4th line: /equip "Legs" "Arhat's Hakama"
5th line: /equip "Hands" "Arhat's Tekko"
6th line: /ja "Provoke" t
1st line: /equip "Ear1" "Eris' Earring"
2nd line: /equip "Ear2" "Eris' Earring"
3rd line: /equip "Body" "Arhat's Gi"
4th line: /equip "Legs" "Arhat's Hakama"
5th line: /equip "Hands" "Arhat's Tekko"
6th line: /ja "Provoke" t
Does swaping just for provoke add enough enmity? I am level 51 and was about to post whether Eris Earrings are worth the loss from the other earrings. But, if I can just swap for provoke then I am golden.

Honestly, provoke is a pretty weak thing compared to melee attacks or ninjutsu...
if you have enmity gear, and dont sacrifice too much by wearing it full time... wear it full time IMO... just my opinion though.

hihi^^ this guide has helped me out a lot, but i still have a just a couple more questions~
i recently quit SAM for NIN and i noticed a lot DD gear when flipping through the 'Pictures of your NIN' thread thing. Do you guys really tank with Haub+1, Flame Rings, and Triumph Earrings on>_>? or is it just for WS? I would just like to know what I should keep for my NIN that I have from my SAM still.
Also, i have a question of enmity. Does the extra that i merited and equip, only effect when i voke? or everytime i swing
? I thought it was everytime I hit the enemy>_> but this guide is making me think it onry works with voke b/c of the whole umm equip change thing<_<;

it is more endgame setup. Nins true DD potential isn't unlocked till 65, which is when your last dual wield trait and higher damage katanas are available... but full time for the most part on the gear.

I have one question. My nin is at 33 now, and I'm interested what weapon use. All the time I'm fighting with Katana's but maybe 2 swords will do better dmg and keep hate better at me? What you think?

Whilst the swords themselves may have higher damage, a Ninja's skill in the weapon is much lower than katana, which will lead to poor accuracy and lower damage per hit.

Thank you for this thread. I am a MNK that is lvl'n NIN simply to sub with my subjob (WAR). It seems that WAR/MNK doesnt get into parties anymore....not as much as the old days. As much as I like MNK, the more I play with NIN, the more I start to like it.
I knew nothing about the job; basically using my common sense, so this thread has helped me out greatly.

Thank you so much Watkins.
Just started Ninja, had a lot of questions I wanted to ask but couldn't... or should I say wouldn't ask my NIN friends 'cause my Main is PLD and I didn't want to look like a traitor.
Anyway, thanks for the guide.

Since this is pretty much a basic guide I figured I'd ask these questions here.
I got to 12 lastnight and I used my utsusemi scroll.
Well pretty much since well in Valkrum if you're nin you're automatically tank, and my time on war was leveling it to 22, could someone help me with some macros? Also since theres a bunch of scrolls availible at 15 I'm guessing I need them.
Now, I have a provoke macro, and a utsusemi macro, both using /p in them telling I'm provoking and stuff.
When I was on war it wasn't an issue having a /p provoke /wait /echo /wait /p provoke
But not with having utsusemi, I can't have the /wait or anything left because well casting utsusemi messes with /waits in the macros. Also the casting of utsusemi, when should I be casting? when I have one shadow left? so I wont get inturupted and have all 3 shadows availible? I know stuff to you guys which I'm sure is pretty much rudametary, but well being a bard full time, not worrying about provoke, utus, skillchains, TP and now having to, its kind of a different way of life.

Regarding your provoke macro, the /wait lines are canceled because you hit another macro period. Only one macro script can queue at one time and execute, so if you have /waits in there and the timer isn't up before you execute another macro, the /wait and subsequent lines are voided.
Tanking with only Utsusemi: Ichi in lower levels is frustrating. Initially when I provoke, I'll start casting Utsusemi: Ichi when my second shadow is gone, or right when the mob is about to attack me. If the mob is slowed, he'll get in an initial attack that won't interrupt if you start casting right when he hits you, and the mob won't get in another attack before you're done casting. Try your best, you'll get hit a lot, which is why having a second NIN or WAR/NIN and even WAR/MNK is a good idea for swapping hate while the other recasts Utsusemi: Ichi.
When leveling my WAR for sub I still hit my Utsusemi: Ni macro just hoping maybe a glitch will happen. :blush
In terms of /party chat lines, I don't use any except TP with call, enfeeb lines(so the RDM or WHM can back up enfeebs I don't cast) which include my TP with no call, and a WS macro with an scall. Cutting down on party chat is very useful for scrolling up to see how many shadows you have if you forget, and when I am trying to get hate back I don't like to spam "{Provoke} Whatever" 800 times, or when I'm slummin' for shadows and need to cast Ni quickly, spamming that party chat line can piss people off. >< If you need a Flash/Stun, I also have a macro for this, which comes in handy when I have timers on both Ichi and Ni, or when the mob decides not to miss when I'm waiting 4 seconds for Ichi to help me out.

Thanks for the awesome info
Also, just a random question, does the chance for interuption go down with the more ninjitsu skill I have?
