Red / Dash Sash, Pumpkin Head II / Horror Head II are level 1 too, if you did those events and kept the items.

I would not use those because of emp pin and survival belt (life belt later).

I actually saw a NIN using that stuff instead of what I mentioned. Rediculous.

I might make a gear guide when I have spare time ;oa, although I'm not sure, most gear for nin seems like common sense, might make one regardless though.

no, not for those Items I wouldn't. Becides Having enmity on during voke and removing it I noticed allowed my hate to wear faster than leaving it on when I was playing PLD. I'm waiting for Eris earring then will use one of those full time (unless I have a THF to SATA on me).

zomg Great post.

Currently WHM74, I'm begining to think of my next job (preferably mellee), and NIN is the one that attracts me the most.

The trouble is, i'm a taru and I'm wondering if a taru NIN at high level, worth the effort, and can do anything good in HL stuff ?...

I'm asking this because I heard that Tarus PLDs are -not useless- but limited in the stuff they can handle, like straight tanking a HNM due to low HP, etc..

I'm planning to farm/camp as much as I need to get the best gears, lvl some craft to spare some money w/ tools, it will take the time it need, but I'll be proud of what I've done if I succeed in the objectives I put on myself.

Another question, which CoP ring is the best for NIN ? You mentioned Rajas, but Sattva isn't better (still Taru speaking) with the HP+ Enmity+ AGI+ and VIT+ ?

Thanks again for the great post and the interresting adds/answers in the thread.

if you're skilled enough and got the gear, race is irrelevant. one of the main tanks for my ls is a taru and he does just as well as anyone i've ever seen.

as far as the cop ring question D:

well, maybe asking that around here is a bad idea lol.

*bashes face againts wall* The race thing for ninja is olde, you'll find tons of topics about it, so just look around. Short answer: it's fine.

I put Rajas ring there instead of Sattva because I was thinking long term, and didn't want people to get the wrong idea about which ring to choose. Later on in the game you'll definately want Rajas, as has been discussed before with Rajas destroying Sattva in the aspect of peoples opinions, the only good thing it's for in short is a full enmity build. It's basically a pretty mermaids ring.

The Store TP is barely noticeable, it adds up to a bit over time though, and I like as much Subtle Blow as I can get when soloing things, since I'm big on soloing limbus recently and the less fluid spreads the better =-=.

But anyway, just look around the nin forums, or use the search button, and you'll find the answer to virtually every question you could have about ninja.

I'll touch up gear for other slots too when I get around to it, or someone could do it for me and post and I'll look over it and put it in, I just haven't gotten around to it. All this sleeping and video games keeps my schedule booked.

lol I see what you mean, like Watkins said right after, I was more thinking of the XP, not on the long term... But it's still a hard choice tongue.gif

Wow.. this is actually a very thorough guide. I wasn't expecting it to be so good. There isn't much I disagree with there. Personally I use Fenrir Earring with Supp. As for subs, DRK can make an excellent sub for soloing monsters that use AoEs (such as BLM mobs) as can BRD (Melody Earrings and many other pieces give advantage with /BRD when soloing). DRG can also make a fairly good sub if the mob you are fighting wipes shadows quickly.. this is because if Wvyern Earring which gives a huge amount of haste in the ear. RDM makes a fantastic sub because you get access to not only cures but black magic such gravity which CAN stick if you use ninja tools to debuff that element. Fast Cast is too a nice bonus. WHM is a useful soloing sub if the monsters you're fighting cast slow. Slow effect can be an absoloute killer for NIN.. but as NIN/WHM you will have Erase. smile.gif

That's all.

Macros are definitely important and with all of a Ninja's spells, it can be hard to fit them all in there.

There's really only need for one or at most two WS macros. One macro for your SC WS (or one for however many you're participating in) and MAYBE another macro for a Stun WS if you have it.

I like to have all of the elemental ninjutsus in a row, CTRL5-CTRL0, starting with Fire. The next macro should be the next spell in the wheel to help you take advantage of the slight drop in elemental resistance.

Whenever I have a JA macro or a spell macro, it's nice to put a /recast "Spell name" under it. If you try and recast/reuse a spell or JA and it's not ready yet, at least you'll know about how long you have until it IS. Having a macro JUST containing recast timers is nice as well. I did this for Thief with SA, TA, Steal, Hide and Flee and am absolutely HOOKED.
For example:
ALT0
/recast Provoke
/recast "Utsusemi: Ichi
/recast "Utsusemi: Ni"
/recast Berserk

Cache-nez is nice until 24. I found that +2 enmity wasn't worth a blinking Provoke macro so I was able to sell it. Debuffing the mob (or attempting, if your Ninjutsu skill isn't up to cap yet) is important for keeping hate. Dorado sushi definitely helps and with a Cache-nez, hate won't be a problem for quite awhile PROVIDED that you debuff.

I preferred the use of Beetle earrings +1 and Courage rings over evasion+/att- earrings and AGI earrings. Hitting for 0 sucks. Using swords in these lower levels when the Skill level difference isn't that great could help that though.

Throwing is a really really great way to keep hate as the damage is insane and the delay is incredibly low. Macroing in RACC rings and using Sushi helps to land them.
/equip L.Ring "Horn ring +1"
/equip R.Ring "Horn ring +1"
/ra
/wait 3
/equip L.Ring "Courage ring"
/equip L.Ring "Courage ring"

After I got Ni, I have pretty much ignored Throwing, however. The level 28 shurikens tear Mandies and bats up something awful.

alright its probably in the forums somewhere but im too lazy to dig tongue.gif
I just started working with utsu ni and i was wondering how you get up an ichi while you have ni up consistantly. Since ichi doesnt stack on ni, if i cast ichi while i still have a shadow up from ni, it wont stack and i'll be left with only that one shadow. If i wait for that shadow to go to start casting ichi, odds are i'll get interrupted. My ls mates said to cancel the ni effect while the ichi casting is before 50% but then the mob has a chance to interrupt from 50-100%. Am I doing this right?

before the fight i have ichi up. Then ichi again at start and then ni when those shadows are gone. What do i do after that? wait till all shadows are gone and hope i dont get hit while casting ichi? or start casting ichi on the last shadow and cancel it in the middle of casting?

I usually start with Ni, and when three shadows are down (let's say I'm fighting an easy mob, like a crab) I start casting Ichi, and with Hojo and slow on, I should have plenty of time to cancel Ni. I like to lose my last shadow at around 35%, giving me plenty of time to cancel without accidently cancelling protect. If you hit enter to cancel after you lose your last shadow anyway, it'll cancel the next buff, which is usually protect.

You have to practice according to the mob, when things like double attack come into effect. You might want to Ichi at 2 shadows instead of one. But definately start starting the fight with Ni, because that gives you a little more time to debuff.

Kurayami Ni, then Hojo Ni, and then Jubaku if your rdm is lazy or nonexistant. You might not have time for Jubaku and will have to recast Utsu with Ichi before that. Saving Ni for emergencies and relying on Ichi is a good habit to form, however that doesn't mean get hit.

Just practice rly ;o.

NIN/DRK is an awesome combo for Uncapped Ballista. And it's a great way to almost guarantee 700exp and 700 IS if you go NIN/DRK in Besieged. Just stun everytime it's up. And NIN/anythingnotwarrior is a good way to avoid getting PT invites if you don't want to be hassled. NIN/BLM, my anti-invite.

Don't doubt the power of NIN/WHM. You can solo the crap outta almost anything if you bring refresh drinks and/or ethers. I took down an Even Match Merrow Chantress as NIN/WHM, solo. Was an incredibly long fight... lasted ~20 mins. The whore tried almost everything on me, even Elegy. Erase ftw! I prevailed! 100 exp solo ftw!

I'm well aware of the capabilities of NIN/DRK, but seeing as how this is a basic guide, I don't want to confuse newbies with things they don't need to know yet.

NIN/WHM just annoys me, I /WAR almost everything I solo because things die faster. Just use Au Lait or something >o. Personal preference though.

Soloing an EM enemy in 20 minutes is power? I'm not trying to bust your balls here, to each his own... but soloing a EM bard type mob would take a well equipped NIN/WAR about 3 minutes >.> Watkins, the guide is great, reading it reminded me of alot of what it was like to level ninja in the early levels (leveled it to 37 as sub for RNG, my first 75 job). A few things worth maybe mentioning:

I'm not sure if it's intentional on SE's part, but there is a lag in when you cancel Ichi, and when the shadow actually goes away. However, for the sake of casting Ichi, it is considered gone immediately. So in a condition where you want to get Ichi up, and really can't afford to get hit, you can start casting Ichi about halfway between the mobs swings, then immediately go into the cancel window. When Ichi gets about 30% (Not sure the actual number, I do this more on instinct than anything) just cancel Ni. If you time it right, the mob will attack a second or so later, and even though you cancelled Ni, if the mob rolls a hit the sadow will still be there. However, if the mob misses you, you are still considered as not having Ni on, so Ichi will cast normally.

Another thing is about BLM as a subjob for NIN. There is alot of debate about this, but in my opinion, RDM sub for NIN is superior in every way, be it solo or as DD with elemental ninjutsu. The only real bonus for being /BLM is MAB2, but it's only like a 4% increase in what RDM already has. But that benefit is greatly outweighed by the effect of fast cast, wich will let you start the wheel again sooner. Not to mention giving you access to cure spells for solo or to grab hate, and stoneskin later on, wich on an EP mob will still absorb enough damage to let you safely recast your shadows. WHM is not bad, but the idea is to not get hit at all, so with the ability to cast utsusemi faster, you should have more than enough healing power as /RDM to get the job done, as well as bar spells, and a few other perks. The ONE thing WHM has over any other sub is status cures, but realisticly you will choose what you fight solo based on how likely it is to cripple you constantly with status effects.

A couple other things I noticed reading through, but honestly the first couple of pages of posts are so old that there would be no point bringing it up now.

Again though, nice guide Watkins, you should consider dredging up an equipment guide to slap in there and it would be perfect.
