You can make profit at your skill level if you want. But for gaining skill...expect to lose a LOT. I'm staying at 23 for a while now because the other sub crafts I currently need are cheaper. Once those are done, i'll use whatever methods (and i'll have quite a few open) to gain the gil to raise smithing.

damn good guide. bump

Mistasia - 1.5 MILLION!!! Omg that's like the cost of Hauberugeon (reason I went into smithing)

This post is a great guideline for smithing, granted I am not crafting some of the suggested crafts (leveling off hatchets for logging) ^__^

Thanks Dragonhope for fishing this up ^__^

For anyone who has leveled Blacksmithing, I will probably get laughed at for this question...

At what level can I consistantly get HQ2-3 on desynthing Quadav Helms (HQ3 - Darksteel Ingot/Sheet) and Backplates?

lvl 49 just to get bronze. Figure you need to craft when the moon is align and whatever day lightning is weak against. (earthday perhaps??)

so to answer your question, you need at least 10 levels above to get HQ1-2 synth

at least 59 Smithing

completely out of the topic for this post.. but to make quick profits albeit small ones, you would think of cooking. a good cooking guide is by belot that is found in allakazham. took me 2-3 days to get to 40 something.. dont remember as it happened many weeks ago.. and it took me another 2 days of half hearted cooking to get to 57 ^^ i stopped at 53 to make some money and i took 30k gil and invested in mithkabobs and i came out with a profit of 40-50k in 2 days. cooking i think will give you the fastest returns in your investment but it takes time (bazaar + AH). i spent many hours just sitting there and checking my auction house every minute because if my food sells it sells fast there. the ammount of money that i have put into cooking is about 100k gil and compared with smithing its peanuts.
i've got friends busting their butts off trying to lvl smithing and they still have yet to see the returns on their money. so for those that want to make a quick buck i would say cooking is the quickest craft in my opinion. but you should remember that once you hit 40-50++ in crafts like smithing, you will make more money than cooking. but on the bright side, i am spending less and less money buying my own food, as i make my own or eat leftovers from what i cant sell ^^ hope this post helps with those that want to make a quick buck. and i cant stress this enough, belot did a great cooking guide in allakazham, and i have no idea if its posted here but go over there and have a look^^

Thanks for not thanking me as if I had written this. I was just lucky enough to know the person who HAD written this and got their permission to post it here.

asdf: You're right...your post is completely off topic. But again you're right...cooking will make money the fastest (Alchemy is a close second with Silent Oils) although in small amounts.

Hm...at level 90 Leatherworking, I can make 95k profit (at the moment) by making Snipers rings and selling them...and more then 10 of these are sold every day. Just..needs a big investment to start it off. Also if I HQ the sniper ring, the profit will be even more. Maybe even up to 10x that of a normal one. Cooking is the easiest but the profit margins are rather small even for HQs. But for blacksmithing and other crafts, HQing something can easily get you 2x - 20x profit on something. Especially the high end stuff.

For gil making purposes, make Iron Ingots (sheets if you want but these sell slower) and sell them by the stack. Any Steel Ingots you make can be sold as well. If possible, try to get the ingots from a Goblin Helm or Mail (do NOT pay more then 1k for either of these items or you WILL lose gil). At higher levels, you can make Darksteel ingots or sheets and sell those.

skill 4-6
bronze scales
wind crystal + bronze sheet(~378 gil)

This recipe fails alot just like the first recipe for Bonecraft, but it skills up pretty quick.

And boy, I got 5.4 in Smithing in 1 1/2 hours biggrin.gif
