You're gonna want to use an alpha channel to solve that. It allows you to "cut out" whatever you want.

sorry it took me long to respond on the other forum ^^;
and kayu, those are really really good. i have been messing around with new .dats for a while now but i have no photoshop or anything to edit with ; ;
oh and Cyphorith that hair/face is awesome ^^
this one isnt mine, and i do not have a .dat for it.. just a picture.. but someone make something similar and upload it ^^
(if it's not working just copy and past the url if you wanna see)

the dats for the menus are ROM/0/14.DAT through 21.DAT.
14.DAT is style 1 and the main FFXI theme when you log on your character.
15.DAT is style 2
16.DAT is style 3 etc.

This is one i did for fun, you can't change all the maps at the moment cause some of them are unsupported by the program, but here is one i could change.

you can download the Clear and Blue Menus here if you want them. You have to wait 45 secs before you can download it, just something with the site, it's free what do ya expect x.x

go into C drive > program files > Playonline > FFXI > ROM > 0
in folder 0 there should be a file called 18.dat
just replace the original with the one you just downloaded

do you have teh model viewer?
the .dat for moogle is in ROM > 3 file 56.dat
just switch that out for anything.. if you have model viewer you can just pick one from there (it has its location in the upper right corner)
if not then go here http://ffxi.killvoid.com/page.php?id=229 and copy and paste any one of those
