Synthesis Farming

Suppose you have Alchemy skill but not sufficient skill to create a sustainable income from it? Farm smart by killing Bees and transmuting the Beehive Chips yourself for greater profit and utility. I am a bit of a novice Clothcrafter and I farm Manticore Hair to process into Kaginawa for ease of sale and increased profits. Getting cloth armor drops worth relatively little on the AH or at vendor, I can desynth into materials and either sell those or craft them into something more profitable. Taking Kyahan from Yagudo and making them into a Kenpogi +1 is very satisfying.

I'll agree with this, I'd always planned on taking up a craft but really put it off forever, after the creation of this thread I got the idea into my head of getting every craft to 60 by farming the ingredients and purely profiting off them with desynthesis and low level high-qualities.
I -made- five million just by raw farming EVERYTHING I skilled up on from cloth 1-60 but this is when the economy was peaked high, well now I've done cloth and leather just by raw farming, and I enjoy harvesting to keep busy and killing the occasional yag, and exactly the same as the end of this, desynthing a yag necklace into a full stack of grass thread then synthing a kenpogi+1 is excellent money despite them selling slightly slow, 50K per yag necklace is good if you've got extra AH space you want to just fill up quickly on a mule. Doublet+1 sets and selling them in selbina overnight if you can afford to idle bazaaring. Also tonberry coats, gigas socks, everything I use to throw away is 90-200K on desynthes when I stack them.

Oh, and even if you don't want to level a craft, beadeaux sheep are great all around for raw farming drops, just need Lv.4 leathercraft max to make leather and sheep wool~

Btw, Max chocobo digging level is probably the fastest money making thing in existense. The first time you see someone dig non-stop and pull up 5 Gold Beastcoins along with pretty decent ores and elemental ores in like 5 minutes you'll cry. Not that I am anywhere near Lv10 Chocobo Digging, (I'm 3) but I have seen these people dig, they can clear out a whole zone teleport and cycle through the zones as they refresh.

I used to do Bonecraft to HQ arrowheads, but they are kind of a sucky profit now since the stack to 99 change. Prices dropped from like 200k for 99 to 18k for 99.

Well, I'm going for my Brown Belt items (again, because I tossed fang and skin when I thought I quit for good) and I'm stuck on Deadly Dodo.

So I figured I'd see the best in it, and share that I've made 300k in Cocatrice parts (meat and giant feathers) in a handfull of hours. It isn't the best farming ever, but it's multi-tasking. Weather you have your belt already, or are helping someone else get theirs, just keep all the items, since they add up.

You can do the same thing for Nue with Tiger things and the Doll shards, and I suppose Morbolger as well with Goblins.

A lot of the lesser camped NMs, as Path pointed out can be camped while farming, and killing two birds with one stone is always a good thing.

Soarian : Mining Gusgen is another very lucrative option. A 75 WHM in my LS makes all their money and has great gear and every spell doing this.

This is the best source of income i have come across personally. I have never had much luck farming or making money in any MMO but gusgen mines has done a pretty decent job of funding some of my more expensive DD gear. I come down here for a couple hours with a few stacks of mining picks, NQ mining gear, /thf for killing elementals, and i make at least a good 75-100k every hour or two at the longest. I've found it much more profitable than farming oils in Korroloka tunnel, and/or beehive chips in lower level zones. Anyway its the best i can do, just thought i would add my 2gil. Hope it helps.

EDIT: I also forgot to mention i toss everything other than darksteel ore, gold ore, and clusters. So if you have the room or time to bazaar everything else you could probably bump this up at least 10-20k more per hour.

Alternatively, take fire crystals in stacks equal to your pickaxes, and synth the ores you get. You'll end up with stackable ingots, which can turn a good amount of money (particularly for the harder-to-get ones such as silver).

Devil manta fishing is also very good income down in kuftal tunnel smile.gif

On sylph its 1.9 mil as of today, fluctuates between 800k (when too many fish it) to 3 mil (when shit is in short demand and very low demand).

Get 1 a day if your lucky and easy cash. N

P.S:

No fishing skill required cept proper rod and mad patience smile.gif

Not that I'm terribly upset since the RMT ruined it long before this update... but, boo hoo, my old hunting grounds for Siren's Hair are well and truly destroyed. Ah well.

Those are Elder Goobbues, Ono. Old Goobbues randomly spawn on the same floor as the Robber Crabs, but they're not consistently up (much like Morbol Menaces, if you've ever seen those on your way to the top of the Tree). It's really weird, actually.

it has been a while since ive been in there but i want to say i remember about 4 or 5 old gobbues at the lower percussionary camp (this is not the pond camp by the nm). hmm let me see if i can better describe where i am thinking of. when you get up top by the steelshells then drop down the falls on your way to fafhogg. once down instead of going to the tunnel that leads to fafhogg take a left and i think you will be staring at like 5 old gobbues...they may be elders i cant remember and im currently unable to get on ff so i cant double check. but that would be the farming spot for old gobbues if i am not mistaken.

Least in my neck of the woods, I've done alright by a combination of water crystal herb plants (for Fire Crystal yields) and smithing Copper/Bronze ingots. They tend to take about 48 hours to sell here, but they never gather dust for long. I won't be buying Scorpion Harnessess any day soon, sure, but it's been enough at my level to keep my gear and craft supplies updated any time I need it. For craft raises, hatchets also seem to do okay, and they turn a profit as well (albeit not as greatly as metals).

Also, the method of Punch the crap out of everything seems to fill in gaps with other items.

I did not really read most of this, but here are a few good spots I made some decent money on doing 2-3 things at once.

Brown Belt NM's have always had good potential for making money.

Nue- You can steal Mythril Beastcoins from the goblins around the tower, Doll shards, Tiger Fangs, and Ahriman tears sell for a decent amount per stack, and if your around around 55 or less you can do a page from the FoV book just inside the tower.

Deadly Dodo- Tons of goblins you can steal Silver beastcoins from. You can also steal Giant Bird Feathers off of the Cockatrices who will also drop feathers, meat, and skins. There is also a few Raptors which can be farmed just outside of Dodo's spawn area for Skins and a NPCable Diary.

Molbroger- Again, lots of goblins to steal Silver Beastcoins from. Alot of mobs in Ordelles drop low-mid level gear as well, Stropers- Shield Pendants, Slash Pine- Dolphin Staff, Napalms- Flame Degens, Stroper Chyme- Shikaree Ring (can NPC for around 2.5k). Elementals spawn often in a nearby room where the Napalms spawn. There is also the RSE NM you can potentially get Candy Drops from, and RSE Treasure Chest if it's your race's week in Ordelles.

I spent considerable time in Castle Oztroja farming Mee Deggi and Quu Domi as well. The advantage of most of the nms is they will always drop something, so even if you do not get the drop you wanted your not left empty handed.

Mee Deggi/ Quu Domi- You can steal Silver Beastcoins from the Yags around their area. The Crawlers drop White Rocks and Silk which you can craft or sell. Both NM's common drop usually sell on the AH for what you can usually NPC it for (at least on Asura) so you can empty your inventory quickly w/o waiting on the AH.

Moo Ozui the Swiftblade- If your quick you can camp this NM and one of the other two NM's at the same time or inbetween spawn windows. There are lots of weak Yags you can steal more Silver Beastcoins from and he usually he is not camped. Babarian's Sword can be NPC'd for what you would usually get off AH and you can sell the Demonic Sword for a profit on AH.

Yaa Haqua the Profane- You can steal Mythril Beastcois from the two PH Yags, or Silvers from the Yags outside of the room. If you take the hallway nearby to the outside ledge that overlooks Mee Deggi/ Quu Domi's spawn area you can find a few Yagudo Conquistadors which drop elemental: Ni ninja scrolls, which can be hunted inbetween PH respawns. There is a small potential you can also find the treasure casket in one of the little hovels when hunting for Yag Conquistadors. The Frost Robe that drops from Yaa Haqua can be NPC'd for around the AH price while the Gaia Doublet can be sold for more on AH.

I really enjoy Beastmen strongholds for all the reasons you listed, Sword. I made 300k one day just because I didn't feel like spending 35k for a pair of Archer's Knives. Thanks for the contribution.

Here is a little mini guide that I made up for gamefaqs users to keep gil questions down to a minimum and to help newbs starting who were having trouble with getting decent gil early in the game. This was the primary method that I used to make gil at early levels so I could get all the gear that I needed including Ochiudo's Kote, Sniper rings, Brown Belt, Cross-counters, etc. And if there are some parallels with Path's thread I do apologize as I skimmed through this thread a few years ago and haven't really since then, but this is what I had done before I even knew KI (or any MNK forum existed for that matter in early '07). It should also help somewhat for those starting out, especially MNKs as I believe that the MNK job coupled with /THF as the subjob is one of the best for farming.

I know that prices have somewhat changed in regards to the economy these days as opposed to then, but the guide is still pretty helpful I think. Enjoy!

If you’re just starting this game one of the biggest obstacles is making a good amount of gil to purchase the goods you need. First and foremost, never buy anything that you can get cheaper from the NPCs in town. I talking about shields, swords, daggers, h2h weapons, staves, etc. Always see your local shops before you spend gil at the AH.

Now on to the mini-guide…

On average, I'll make about 75-100k for 3-4 hours of farming a night right now. The reason why I’m able to do this, is because I’m able to see what things sell well at the AH and find the places where I can get it. Having a melee job with a decently leveled THF as a subjob can make a huge difference between getting good drops, to decent drops, to hardly any drops. At levell 15, THF will have two helpful things: Gilfinder and Treasure Hunter. Treasure Hunter is good because it increases the chances that normal items from mobs will drop as you farm. I don’t think that it really helps much with NM drops, but I’m not an expert on that so take what I say about that with a grain of salt. At lower levels, odds are your THF will either be too low for a subjob or hardly leveled at all for a main job. Some people will level up THF to 15 for the traits I listed above. But if you’re a melee (WAR or MNK), THF is great for farming. Just remember to change your subjob before you go out for exp parties though. No one likes a gimpy subjob.

One important thing you need is a good system that works for you. I pretty much farm Monday-Thursday and I try to party/do quests and missions Friday-Sunday. I know people who party Monday-Friday and strictly farm on the weekend. But depending on your lvl and job (and also your server) the amount of gil you make can vary as does the schedule that feels the best for you.

So here are a few suggestions based on my experience so far.

This is a mini-guide based primarily off of my game experience, from farming at early levels to my current level. I will give a little history as to why I needed a lot of gil so many of you won’t think that I’m a greedy little bastard. Most of what I’m writing isn’t a secret nor is it path to guaranteed gillions. All it is, is a small guide on how-to make some decent gil early on.

First and for most, my main job is MNK. Despite what people may think or say, the MNK job is the MOST EXPENSIVE job to gear, especially from lvls 34-40. When I was going through those levels, Ochiudo Kote (level 34) were going for 800-1000k gil, Mthr. Knuckles +1 (level 38) 50k, sniper rings (level 40) were around 500k and woodsman rings (level 40) were around 450k. Brown Belt (level 40) was stable at 500k and Jujitsu Gi (level 40) was going for over 300k at the time. And this is gear that you can equip up to level 40. So if I wanted to be a decent MNK, I knew what type of gear I needed to get. So here are my strategies for getting gil and all of these items before I even reached level 40.

Remember, these prices at the AH can change and primarily come from the Jeuno AH prices, so I’m using what I’ve seen today at the AH for the basis of what to look forward to when selling these items for gil. Please remember that some items for sale in Jeuno can be more or less, but not a huge difference. We’re talking mostly farmed items here, not endgame drops. :)

A) First of all, one of the quick and easy way to make gil is to use your Conquest Points to “purchase” weapons and gear from your nation’s NPC who gives you your signet. The great thing about this is it doesn’t cost you any gil up front. The Nation guards usually stand outside the gates of the cities. Depending on your Nation Rank, at what level you can purchase gear will be determined. For example, if you are Rank 3, you can purchase gear anything Rank 3 and below. Basically, you can not purchase anything higher than your Rank, regardless of the Conquest Points that you have at the time.
A good example of an exploit here is the Mercenary’s Knife. Due to the popularity of the DNC job, the Mercenary’s Knife which cost 2000 Conquest Points and usually sold for about 8-9k at an AH was going for an easy 20-25k on some servers because of the demand by the DNC job, but usually around 15k now. Not bad if you have some Conquest Points to spare and the Rank to get it. Rank 2 is very easy to get and if you had 6000 Conquest Points that could have easily been at least 60k in the bank for you. Some of you are thinking, “Why would I waste Conquest Points like that?!” Trust me, it’s not a waste. And if some of you worry about getting those points back, simply change to a level 1 job, get signet going, and kill the mobs around the starter cities. If you do this to lvl 8-10, you’ll get back a pretty good number of conquest points easily and you’ll have leveled up a job in the process. Do this with again picking another level 1 job. And as an extra, all the drops that you’ve gotten from the mobs as you leveled up and got more Conquest Points, can go right into the AH for even more gil.

I actually had a friend who leveled all of his unlocked jobs (beside his main job which was level 60 RDM and primary subjob WHM at lvl 37) to level 10 just to use the Conquest Points to get gear to sell at the AH for gil. He made a really nice amount of gil and he also had more than enough crap leftover that he ended up throwing most of it away because it wouldn’t fit in his Mog House and he had all his slots filled at the AH, even on his mules.

Stingy Bees

B) We all joke about killing the stingy bees and getting their beehive chips for mad gilz. But it’s actually a very easy and quick way to make some gil. Granted that when I farmed for beehive chips, they were going for 7-8k a stack so I made a killing off of them. Though they are going for roughly 4-5k now, that’s ok because they sell super fast and at a steady price. And usually bees will drop the chips more often than not (stingy bees is just a fade/joke thing from the message boards). When I used to farm these, just two/two and a half hours of farming for beehive chips, I’d normally have three stacks of chips (4k x 3), a stack of pot of honey (4k), and two or three stacks of insect wings (1k x 2) around lvl 15-18. So for two hours of farming just the bees alone would be roughly 18k gil right there. The two best places to farm for beehive chips (in my opinion) are:

1) Zegham Hill in North Gustaberg: Why? Because all that hill is, is pretty much bees, goblins, and sheep. Though I’d stay away from the sheep and goblins; sheep drop skins and meat and all they do is take up space and the goblins do drop goblin items that go quickly at the AH from 500-1k. But the main reason you’ll be here are for the bees. And as an added bonus, there is a chance that one of the bees on the second level of Zegham Hill will spawn Stinging Sophie. Stinging Sophie was the second NM that I’d ever killed. What’s special about her is that she can drop the Beestinger (rare knife) which used to go for an easy 30-40k. Now the Beestinger will go anywhere from 7-10k, maybe more on starter city AHes. So basically, farm the bees on both levels of Zegham Hill and you’ll see Stinging Sophie replace one of the bees every hour/hour and a half or so kill for the drop. If you’re a melee job at around 15, 16 or higher, she’ll fall to you no problem.

2) Giddeus: Ton of bees here. This is also a decent place to farm for beehive chips. But the difference between here and Zegham Hill is the level you need to be. If your level isn’t high enough, some parts of Giddeus will get you some annoying aggro from the yagudo that roam these parts. And on top of that, if you’re level isn’t high enough, you won’t be able to farm bees here in an effective manner either. So if your level is plenty high and you don’t have to worry about aggro, by all means farm here, and kill some of the yagudo (Mendicant, Theologist, Priests, and Votaries. These mobs levels go up to level 27 so be careful). The items that you should be keeping your eyes on are the slacks, linen slops, holly clogs, and silver beast coins. These items you’ll want to store in your inventory. The slacks and linen slops go fast for a decent price (anywhere from 3-5k) and the holly clogs should go for about 2k. The other interesting thing about Giddeus is that there are two notable NMs that pop here. The more popular one Hoo Mjuu the Torrent, who drops the rare-dropping Monster Signa, usually has a couple people camping him almost always. If you’re at least lvl 24-25, you should be able to beat him. Be warned that he’ll use benediction to restore lost HP at about 50% HP loss and that can be the difference between winning the fight or getting ko’d. If you do manage to get the claim, beat him, and get the drop, congrats! You just made an easy 100k of the Monster Signa. The other NM that you may run into is Vuu Puqu the Beguiler. He’s bit tougher than Hoo Mjuu the Torrent and the only significant drop he has is the Bird Whistle which goes for roughly 9-10k. Good thing about the Bird Whistle is that it drops fairly well. Now, if your levels are too low for Giddeus than save it when you’re high enough to farm there. On to…

3) East Sarutabaruta: On the map from I-7, J-7 to the Stone Monument in K-6 and along the river out toward the road is where I got most of my gil. The two main mobs to camp here are the bees of course and the crawlers. We all know what we get from the bees, but it’s the crawlers that we also want drops from too. The crawlers will drop silk thread if you’re lucky and when I farmed here they were going for 13-15k a stack, now they are about 8-9k. Still not too bad because the price of gear and other items are going down too thanks to the removal of RMTs. Granted the silk threads don’t drop as easily as the beehive chips do, they are still worth farming especially if you’re levels are up to low teens (8-12. Another awesome thing about this area is that an NM will spawn in place of one of the crawlers. His name is Spiny Spipi and what is so good about him is he drops the rare Mist Silk Cape. Whether you want this cape for yourself or to sell is up to you, but it is one of the best capes for mages at every early levels. When I was able to get the drop, I’d sell it at the starter cities AHes for an easy 70k because that’s what they were going for. It was going for 45-50k in Jeuno’s Ah but now it’s about 35-40k. Still a nice amount of gil!
So on average, I’d farm here for three hours to three hours and a half and get 4-5 stacks of beehive chips (4k x 4), 1-1.5 stacks of silk thread (8-9k), 2 stacks of honey (4k x 2), and 3 stacks of insect wings (1k x 3) for a nice total of 35k gil. Not too shabby if you do this for a few days.

4) North Gustaberg: J-5 to H-6 of the map you’ll find a nice amount of walking saplings. What’s nice about these saplings is that they will drop grain seeds which go for an easy 10-12k a stack. Also, like the silk thread, they are not a common drop, but I think they drop more often than silk threads do. On top of that, they also drop vegetable seeds which go for 5-7k a stack. I have noticed that when it’s Firesday and the moon is full, the grain seeds will be an unusually common drop. On other thing about this area, though the maighdean Uaine doesn’t drop anything that you can sell, she will drop the Optical Earring (rare/ex ACC +1, ATK -2) which is a 100% drop; one of the very few items that will directly increase your ACC at that such low levels (yes I’m one of those FFXI players who belief that you can’t ever have enough ACC ^_^). So if you can, try to take her out while you’re out there farming those grain seeds.

One last thing…

Always remember to look for the best prices to sell your goods, but also take into account how quickly they sell. Putting up an item on the AH for a nice profit won’t do you any good if the last time that particular item sold was 6 months ago. And unless you can flood the AH with your items to directly raise the price, don’t bet on yours being the only one left at 10k above the average price will be a guarantee sell for someone desperate enough to buy it. Always keep these issues in mind. Your goal is to farm well and have your items sell quickly on the AH to increase your gil flow. And no, I don’t mean to undercut the AH either by selling your items at 1 gil or 10 gil when it’s going for 1k-10k or something like that. People have been playing this game a long time and they’ll get really good deals of suckers like that. I once bought a something from the AH for 5k gil when said item was usually 50k. I was forgot to add an extra zero. All you’re doing by undercutting is making your item cheap for your profit return to be lower and everyone else’s as well. Don’t be greedy, just be efficient and smart.

Hope this helps a little bit at least.

Good luck. :D
