Kirrath :
I'm starting to think that the people who can't be successful in a video game are unlikely to be successful in real life, since things like economics and networking are vital skills to have.

...... so if you suck at a video-game, then you are a failure in real life......

You are a NERD

While that is kind of far fetched it has some true resemblance to it, I mean some aspects in video game copy RL aspects. Like managing your money virtual or real, getting yourself in debt to buy a good car or farming your ass for equip, et al.
Still I feel its kind of silly to say “you fail at video games you fair at life”.

Let me try this in simpler terms:

Managing money and networking is significantly easier in a video game than in real life. If you can't figure it out in a video game, you're probably not going to figure it out in real life. If you can figure it out in real life but can't translate it to a video game, you're pathetic.

I can see where you are coming from pathwriter. My point about the kote was, I had a look at my job levels, then I had a look at my craft levels, and I wasnt happy with the disparity between them. So I sold my kote for something that would translate into more gil, and less time spent farming in the long-run.

Going from 56-60 without kote isnt a big deal. I was wearing my AF gloves when I used Boost /Weaponskills , so losing 20 attack in between those times isnt gonna hurt the experience gained per hour significantly. I would rather not have the kote and just not go AFK at all in an exp party. Also just because I dont have them right now, doesnt mean that I cannot camp mee deggi or re-buy them.

Your attitude, Kirrath, is one I agree with. You're using money to make money and, no, it isn't such a great loss that you can live without nor replace as need be. Do you see the point I was making, though?

I found myself a money making scheme, and everytime I think about that computer I'm going to buy I slap myself on the forehead and go "Idiot! You worked out your money problem in FFXI! In real life you're still broke"
I'm not kidding either >.>

Also, Kirrath... can you explain why there's a pic of me all bleeding in your sig?

uhh ok, you for sure went too far with the video game and real life comparison-.- I see your point, but it doesn't translate well into your phrase.

What you're saying is, you fail at life since you can't save up for a ferrari while working at McDonald's.

I agree that people need to stop coming on to the forum making threads just how they're justifying not buying an O. Kote(if anyone talks about my thread, it was supposed to be a discussion of alternatives, but as always, it turned in to "get the kote, fucker").

BTW some options you could think about, probably posted earlier, are the ninja scroll and teleport quests. Neither of them require any fighting, so you could technically get them as a lvl 1. On my server, doing the 3 norg quests would net you 800k right there, and I'm sure the teleport one's would push you over the 1mil mark easily enough. And yes, it does translate down, since beehive chips are now 10-11k/stack, and silk thread is 40k/stack. It is a daunting number to save up, but it would probably only take like 2 weeks max to save that kind of gil these days.

2 words to anybody that doesn't like to farm or wants to try something differnet. Chocobo Digging is how i make alot of gil, i am only a level 4 digger getting closer to 5, but i make alot of gil when i do runs through Kazham Jungles, Junger forest, knostant highlands and the deserts.

My mule went from aboug 350k to about 1.1mil in about 5 days of digging on and off, spent about a total time of 6hrs or so digging, so not to shabby there, but takes alot of time and pathenits and knowledge to be a good digger, not the best skill for those that grow bored easily, it takes some decent time to level to gil making levels.

To get to lvl 4 digging takes about 4-5 months of 4 hrs a day digging lol, however the richest ppl in the game are chocodigger/goldsmiths ie Various and another guy who is lvl 100 goldsmithing lvl 15 digging. It took them like 1.5-2 yrs of digging 4 hrs a day to get to that point. But they make like 2 mil gil an hr lol.

As for the kote, go fucking camp the damn thing, in about 2 weeks of camping you'll get it.
The time it takes to farm sux and camping sux, but a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. Begin either farming or camping stick with it and in no time your money will stack up. And playing the ah helps 2, like buying a whole stack of something and sell each of the 12 for more money (great for xpensive items).

BTW ppl who can make money in real life sometimes doesn't have the patience or time to do it in a game..... Its a game who cares if you your skilled at money making in a game lol. Hell might as well make money in real life then buy your gil only 14 dollars per mill, lmao thats 42 real life dollars for your O kote. But wheres the fun in that just buckle down and farm and camp the old fashion way then once your get it bitch about how hard it was to get. Trust me you'll feel a lot better about yourself.
PS. my buddy camps Deggi and gets 3 kotes a week o.O. Grow some balls ^.^

Money management is not about making as much as you can, just so you can purchase the biggest and best. It's knowing how to operate within your limits.

Everyone has to establish their own price/worth balance. If it's worth it to you at some point, then do it...if not, then don't. This is as simple as it is, and it shouldn't be badgered.

My two gil.

I'm loving that Fuma Kyahan and Ochiudo's kote keep going up, I can pretty reliably pull in 5.1 Million gil in a day of camping in Castle Oztroja and thats on an unlucky day. Once I get THF45 I'll probably be able to get 10+ Million gil a day there, easily.

NM Camping for gil vs crafting/farming for gil. I would take the latter in a heartbeat. The worst thing on this game is having to rely on NM drops, I would rather spend 2 hours everyday, slowly working towards a certain equip, with a guaranteed pay-off, however ,this is quite a difficult way to earn the large amounts of gil needed for monk. I think that a compromise between the two is necessary, it is great to camp a NM for a few hours with your LS. But its also equally nice to craft some ninja tools while LFG in Jueno, then come back after your exp party is done, to some pocket change that can be used for food/teleports/low-cost equips.

(P.S How camped is Mee Deggi on your servers? I know it is maybe the most overcamped NM on Ifrit, Its quite hard to even get the claim let alone the drop on him :|, I camped him with a friend when I was paladin, but we usually made more gil farming in the castle than NM camping)

proof that SE needs new character models/apperance changes on FF, there are so many people around jueno that look the same as my character ; ;

There's 10 people there, minimum; six of them brandishing the kote already. :wall

I wore my Ochiudo's kote while I camped. I would say there is normally 2 gil sellers there, plus the 1-4 other people that want a Kote. But I can normally get at least 1 kote and 1 Kyahan a day. If I don't oh well, 5 Million gil in 2 days is still good. lol

O.o punctuation exists for a reason, nearly went cross-eyed trying to read that...
Anyway, i hate to continue on the O. Kote topic, but...
They are low priced on Alex compared to most other servers, 2.1 to 2.4 mil. I finally got around to saving for them, and at my current rate of gil making, i should be able to afford them in about two weeks. Giddeus is my best friend when it comes to money making, i grab a couple stacks of sickles, and go on a killing spree. I kill bees and wasps when moving between harvesting points. By the time i have broken all the sickles, i usually have 2-3 stacks of red moko grass, which sells for about 37k a stack. also, if i go /thf, i end up with at least 12 stacks of bee chips, which are about 12k a stack. even on a bad day, in about 3 hours, thats a good 150k+ both the grass and the chips sell very fast, so it isnt to hard to offload all this at the AH.
I also have a mule with lvl 26 smithing skill, and i buy stacks of iron ingots from the guild (but only if they are selling for 3k per ingot or less, otherwise i wont make much profit). i get a stack of fire crystals, and turn them into iron sheets. it costs about 37k to buy the ingots and crystals per stack, and they sell for 55k. they also sell really fast, so i usually make 7 stacks of these. thats roughly a 280k investment, but i get about 390k from the AH when they all sell. its only 100k (give or take) profit, but they sell fast enough i can generally sell 7 stacks a day. it does take awhile to do all the synths (about 1.5 hours), but in 4-5 hours of crafting and farming, i have made anywhere from 250k to 320k. granted, i dont do this every day, but i just thought i would try to give an example of how things that dont sell for a huge amount of gil (like the bee chips) can add up to alot in a relatively short amount of time, as long as one is willing to put a little effort into it ^^

Ryoga's money-making method is a great example of how you can put a little thought into something, and get a lot out.

At the moment I think ive found the perfect farming situation in East Altepa Desert. It allows me to get Giant Bird Plumes (18-20k each) manticore hair (6-7k each, or when crafted into kaginawa 29-30k a stack) get exp (usually 600 exp but will be more after I start using the new exp ring) get earth/wind crystals for crafting or profit, and also level my NPC.
Last time I did it, I managed to get 200K in just over two hours. Its a nice way to farm because even if you dont get the drops you want, you are still accomplishing something. Hell you could even skillup staff/club or guard while doing it.

Giddeus and Altepa are two of my favorite places, nice job, guys. What Giant Birds are there in Eastern Altepa, though, Kirrath? I know there are one or two in Western (and they're a pain to locate without Wide Scan).

I have a personal favorite that can potentially net me several million for a few hours of camping, but guarantees at least a few hundred thousand. Is 400k as satisfying as 3 million? No, but it's a lot better than spending six hours only to watch the NM you've been stalking get claimed by someone else and, in the end, you have nothing to show for it by frustration.

(I'm Interested.) PM me? ^^;

Me too.

Crafting for profit can be slow and, in alchemy case at least, you must sell in bulk to see some visible profits. So far I can make on average 126000 gil daily, not so impressive and its very dependant on the availability of raw material, the cost of it and the cost of the end product.
