Hey is there any body equipment I can use besides Jujitsu Gi at level 40 if I have Venerer's Ring and Sniper's Ring? I don't really want to have to farm up another million gil -.-;

Finally got around to updating. Let me know if I missed anything. Add Faith Torque and Baghnakhs (reluctantly), Tiphia Sting, TM Hooks +2, Boreas Cesti, and Hedgehog Pie.
I'm not impressed by Faith Baghnakhs. Of course, I've never used them, but even if they proc'd basically every other hit (which is what I hear they do) and stack with Double Attack, the efficiency rating is WAY too low for my tastes. Furthermore, a low damage rating cuts into WS damage. If I enjoyed hitting Asuran Fists for 500 damage, I'd use Tropical Punches, right?
Oh, and, no, there is no substitute for a Jujitsu Gi. Considering the mileage you will put into it, there's no reason not to get it, even if you don't spring for a Brown Belt or Ochiudo's Kote. There's simply nothing that compares until level 58 and Temple Cyclas.

Can I use the TMH+2 at level 65+ until I can get my hands on a better weapon?

Tactician Magician's Hooks +2 get more powerful the higher in level you are. They're not really my cup of tea, though, and there are better options available once you break level 70, which is why they're sort of low on my list.

TM2 will definitely take you into the 70s. I've seen monks in merit using these and while they're no Destroyers, they certainly aren't Shiva's Claws either.

Thanks, i'll keep then till I get my destroyers.

I'll take Garrison Hose (1 STR, 1 DEX) long before I use Elvaan RSE. Pants options for Monks are pretty slim pickings, though, until end-game where we're so overwhelmed with choices that we confuse ourselves completely.

Quick gear question. The majority of you seem to not advocate sushi (this, I agree with; gimp to the max just for better TP gain). However, I've caught from various places that O.Kote/Enkelados' bracelets are something all should have at 50. However, if you're not eating sushi, you need a good amount of extra accuracy...aren't Battle Gloves just as valid, seeing how that's an extra 3 acc?
I guess this is kind of a personal question; I have Jujitsu Gi, Optical Needle, Battle Gloves, Life Belt, and am working on Woodsman Rings (they cost as much as snipers, might as well take the superior ring). Eating Rice Dumplings for an acc boost there, plus the attack bonus. Is that 3 accuracy an acceptable loss?

Ditch the Battles Gloves immediately. 20 Attack (or 7 STR if you cheap out) is immensely superior to 3 Accuracy. If you honestly do start to have Accuracy problems, and speaking from experience you shouldn't, switch to Sushi and augment your STR and Attack as best you can.

Just wondering.... what exactly is a Melodya's Torque? I looked on alla and somepage and they had no info. I even looked in google and came up with this: http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navc...odya%27s+torque

Whoops... looks like I somehow managed to confuse my musical terms. I meant "Harmonia's Torque." See stats here: http://ffxi.somepage.com/itemdb/6562

SB+6

SB+4
http://ffxi.somepage.com/itemdb/4436

Assuming you have Destroyers, which return roughly 5% TP at all times... about 3.5-4%, I believe, per strike.

Nice thread.
Is there any reason why a monk would keep cross counters or spartan cesti once they're high enough to use destroyers?

Spartan Cesti... no. I mean, you could hold onto it for BCNM 60, but I'd personally keep either TM Hooks or Cross-Counters, on the off-chance I'd need something for BCNM 50 as well.
Cross-Counters, on the other hand, are a piece of equipment that you can justifiably keep forever. Not only are they immensely useful for any level 50 or 60 capped situation, the +5 Counter can be quite nice when out solo'ing or farming without a Ninja sub. If you play a Monk that enjoys being able to Counter and doesn't use Utsusemi, I'd stick with them, their damage rating is only a little below Destroyers. Quite nice for tanking with, too, because of the +Counter.

I only saw food for DDing. What food would be best to use as Tanking and soloing MNK/NIN? Dorado sushi and squid sushi? >.>
I can't find better stuff unless it's Jack-o'-Lanterns for pure Eva.

Navarin is good for solo'ing, you get a minor Attack and STR boost along with 5 Evasion. For tanking, go with what's going to work best for you. Considering two of the more important tanking items for Monk/Ninja have a hefty boost of Accuracy on them, I doubt that Dorado Sushi is necessary, but I have used Squid Sushi while tanking Aura Pots as Monk/Ninja (of course, I've also tanked them as Monk/Warrior with a Staff, they're not very hard to tank, period). If you're tanking something below VT and have a decent amount of Accuracy, I'd boost your melee damage to ensure that you cement hate. It's also worth noting that unless you open the fight with a solid bit of enmity (e.g. Boosted Chi Blast, Asuran Fists, or SATA from someone else), you're gonna have to work overtime to get aggro onto you, at least if you have any decent DD or nuker in the group.
Nice thing about Monk, though, once you've gotten aggro, it's hard to lose it, because of our fast and powerful strikes.
