I've had my Lv15 Warrior's Belt for quite a long time. DEF:+1 HP:+3 VIT:+2 really is good boost, unless you're money gung ho and get the +1 version of this belt. Thinking about the next belt I'm going to get inspired me to plan ahead.

I've been writing down equipment that I'm going to buy from level 36 onward. I'm thinking of equipping the following when I am at 36 (*note I left out rings, earrings, and ranged weapons/ammo):

Primary Weapon: Hunting Sword (Lv34) DMG:27 Delay:264
Secondary Weapon: Spear (Lv24) DMG:34 Delay:396
Tirtiary Weapon: Two-Handed Sword (Lv20) DMG:35 Delay:456
Shield: Kite Shield (Lv28 ) DEF:8

Head: Silver Mask (Lv36) DEF:14
Body: Silver Mail (Lv36) DEF:28
Hands: Silver Mittens (Lv36) DEF:9
Legs: Silver Hose (Lv36) DEF:20
Feet: Silver Greaves (Lv36) DEF:8

Neck: Tiger Stole (Lv24) DEF:2 Attack:+5
Waist: Warrior's Belt (Lv15) DEF:1 HP:+3 VIT:+2
Back: Dhalmel Mantle (Lv18 ) DEF:3

Then seven levels later (lv43) I resolve to recommend paladins equipping the following:

Primary Weapon: Honor Sword (Lv42) DMG:28 Delay:240 VIT:+2 MND:+2
Secondary Weapon: Same
Tirtiary Weapon: Greatsword (Lv41) DMG:55 Delay:456
Shield: Heater Shield (Lv43) DEF:12

Head: Iron Musketeer's Armet (Lv40) DEF:17 VIT:+2
Body: Breastplate (Lv40) DEF:32
Hands: Iron Musketeer's Gauntlets (Lv40) DEF:12 Ranged Accuracy:+5
Legs: Cuisses (Lv40) DEF:23
Feet: Iron Musketeer's Sabatons (Lv40) DEF:10 Ranged Accuracy:+5

Neck: Same
Waist: Same OR Swordbelt (Lv43) DEF:4 Attack:+10
Back: Same

Finally, at our most desired level 50, 7 levels after 43, the knight finally emerges:

Primary Weapon: Honor Sword (Lv42) DMG:28 Delay:240 VIT:+2 MND:+2
Secondary Weapon: Trident (Lv45) DMG:51 Delay:396
Tirtiary Weapon: Greatsword (Lv41) DMG:55 Delay:456
Shield: Royal Knight Army Shield (Lv50) DEF:14 STR:+2 MND:+1 OR Temple Knight Army Shield (Lv50) DEF:14 STR:+1 MND:+2

Head: Iron Musketeer's Armet (Lv40) DEF:17 VIT:+2
Body: Iron Musketeer's Cuirass (Lv50) DEF:40 VIT:+1
Hands: Iron Musketeer's Gauntlets (Lv40) DEF:12 Ranged Accuracy:+5
Legs: Iron Musketeer's Cuisses (Lv50) DEF:29 AGI:+2
Feet: Iron Musketeer's Sabatons (Lv40) DEF:10 Ranged Accuracy:+5

Neck: Royal Knight Army Collar (Lv50) DEF:5 STR:+1 Evasion:+2 OR Temple Knight Army Collar (Lv50) DEF:5 MND:+1 Evasion:+2
Waist: Swordbelt (Lv43) DEF:4 Attack:+10 OR Life Belt (Lv48 ) Accuracy:+10 OR Royal Knight's Belt (Lv50) DEF:5 STR:+2 DEX:+2 AGI:+2 INT:+2 MND:+2 CHR:+2
Back: Raptor Mantle (Lv48 ) DEF:6 Fire:+3 Water:-1 OR Dino Mantle (Lv48 ) DEF:7 Fire:+4 Water:-1

What do people think of this plan? Sound good? I look foward to reading your remarks in the morning.

You want to upgrade to a tactician magicians espadon for your weapon at level 50.

Paladins are not there to deal damage, but if they dont upgrade their weapons they will have more problems holding hate.

Royal Knights belt is definately the winner for your level 50 waist.

As for your backpiece, hmmm theres better stuff, although i cant remember the exact name/stats.

Also RK army shield is better than TK for a pally.

Yeah your plan sounds pretty good considering you can afford it all hehe. As Gryffes said, get tactician magicians espadon at 50 (I know I will) and unless you have 2 pallys in one group or you're going to solo, I don't see reason why you should be using a greatsword? One last thing, instead of Breastplate and Cuisses, try getting Royal Squires Chainmail tunic and legs at 40. Little more cost ineffiecient but well worth it if you have gil =)

Yeah, I picked these items b/c as a matter of fact I'm not very rich. Furthermore, too many times I've been in groups with more than one paladin and he keeps on hogging all the hate (and does pretty good tanking too). What's a guy to do with a puny 1-hand sword? In those times, I think it's best to switch to something a little more powerful.

As a more personal note, when I play FFXI I like to buy equipment most suited for a Paladin, or rather, equipment with names that sound good, looks good. In relation to greatswords, I thought 'Demonic Sword' or 'Hellfire Sword' didn't sound very Holy-ish. I also think Paladins should be more in plate armor then the leathery equipment like Brigandine.

What a dangerous way to play the game. X_x

I'm with you brother wink.gif Breastplate all the way at 40.. Why spend 20k for Ryl Sqr when you can get breastplate for 9k. Here is what I'm wearing at 40, hope it helps. Drone Earrings would add +2 AGI but they are 20k a piece still working on it wink.gif I think with this setup I'm running like +11Agi and +8VIT if I remember correctly. Defense is somewhere around 220 without sentinel or protect II.

HEAD Irn Msk. Armet 17 VIT +2
NECK Tiger Stole 2 ATK+5
BODY BreastPlate 32
WAIST Warriors Belt 1 +3hp&vit
LEGS Ryl Sqr Breeches 22 Dex+1,Agi +1
HANDS Irn Msk Gauntlets 12 Ranged Acc +5
FEET Leeping Boots DEX+3, AGI +3
MANTLE Travelers Mantle Evasion +5
RINGS Bastok +3
Sphene Ring VIT +2, Earth +5
SHIELD Kite Shield 8
EARRINGS Wing Earrings +2 AGI
Wing Earrings +2 AGI

Primary Weapon: Tactiian Magician

Head: Mythril Sallet (a lot cheaper)
Body: Iron Musketeer's Cuirass (Lv50) DEF:40 VIT:+1
Hands: mythril hands
Legs: Iron Musketeer's Cuisses (Lv50) DEF:29 AGI:+2
Feet: mytril boots

(mythril is the black armor set u can use at lv49)

Neck: Royal Knight Army Collar (Lv50) DEF:5 STR:+1 Evasion:+2 OR Temple Knight Army Collar (Lv50) DEF:5 MND:+1 Evasion:+2
Waist: Warrior Belt + 1
Back: Wolf mantle ^^;

This is budget equipment you can use till 60 tongue.gif no one will complain as long as you eat fish food or any VIT+ food and flash all day. Slowly get AF as you go level up since they're free and they're very good tongue.gif

Note: its a lot better to get the best equipment but you're going to sell it anyways after you get AF so ^^;

I dont like the paladins AF armor. I like the one with more black around the joints and seems to be more of plate armor than the AF stuff. If anyone has the guide book look at the stuff the paladin is wearing in the job sections and if you know what type of armor that is would you be so kind as to post it.

That kinda armor is called Iron Musketeer. In that photograph he's wearing everything but the helmet (the Iron Musketeer's Armet).

Personally, any armor dress in blue or white fits for a paladin. wink.gif

Question: How do you get the Iron Musketeer armor set? Best to buy via AH, use Conquest points, or is there something else you can do for that crazy-daisy armor?

Ahh zaris, it's really on what you can and can't afford tongue.gif Many people I know use mythril armor set and sell their IM to get some cash. As far as getting the IM set here's what I did, bought the armet using 8k CP which brought me to 2k (yes I am poor in CP /cry) then bought the hands and feet for 22k gil each, did that at lvl 40. By the time I reach 50, I will have 16k CP, enough to buy either chest or legs whichever is more expensive then sell my brigandine and ryl sqr breeches and buy the final piece =) On a side note, IM armor was the sole reason I became a paladin happy.gif

I am a PLD Lv56 and here are my current equipments.

Primary Weapon: tactician magicians espadon
Shield: Royal Knight Army Shield

Head: Gallant Coronet ^^
Body: Iron Musketeer's Cuirass <-- may upgrade to Royal Knight's Chain armor...
Hands: Iron Musketeer's Gauntlets <-- WILL replace with AF4 ^^
Legs: Iron Musketeer's Cuisses <-- may upgrade to Royal Knight Breeches...
Feet: Iron Musketeer's Sabatons <-- WILL replace with AF2. ^^

Neck: Spike Necklace
Waist:Royal Knight's Belt
Back: Wolf mantle +1 (def 5) <--- need to upgrade this one, had it for long time...

Earrings: Drone Earrings (agi+3) x2
Ring 1: Palanax Ring ^^
Ring 2: Balance Ring (Dex+2)

I don't really want to replace my musketeer's gears because they look better than Royal Knight's gears. LOL.

at lvl 28 drop the Dhamel mantle and pick up a wolf mantle. I recommend a wolf mantle +1. Over in Lakshmi the price is dropped ALOT. Was 20k, now 11k.

why does the lvl 50 RK belt add +2 to everything except Vit ? I'd almost prefer to use my Warrior's Belt +1 for the 3Vit.

I see alot of people using the I.M. feet/hands. Why? Do you need that extra ranged acc? ^^ If you have the money or cp's to waste and just want to have the full set of I.M. thats one thing, but I know some players aren't as fortunate. For those I would suggest just getting the lvl 40 hands/feet. Can't think of the name right now, but its the basic named ones. That should save you some money and has the same def, without the rng acc.

I dunno. Money is a big issue when it comes for getting these gears. I plan to purchase my Armet, Gloves, and Boots and use CP to get the body and leg part. When it comes to a player like me, I like to buy stuff that sounds good, looks good. If I see Demon Sword in the Greatsword list, I don't buy it even if I have to upgrade my sword. Why? Because the word "Demon" doesnt' sound very fitting for a holy knight such as myself. Same for the Tactician Magician Sword. I'm no magician, so I may not use that sword. X_x

Furthermore, I like to buy entire sets so I look good. Go for all or none. That's my philosophy. I know it's kinda picky of me, but I don't mind working for my gear via crafting. In the end, wearing a whole set of same armor, matching earrings and rings, and stuff all shiny will be very satisfying. =)

As for the I.M. feet and hands, yeah Paladins have terrible Agility, but with the +6 from the 2 drone earrings I have, I can finally continue to up my Great Bow skill. Gotta be versatile. = D

The whole Rank 4 I.M. set is a BIG JOKE. HAR HAR SE. VERY FUNNY >.> I mean, ranged accuracy and a RNG can't wear it. Where's the logic? Oooh .. maybe they encourage all the jobs listed that can wear them to sub RNG. Oh yeah, that works! >.>

Anyway, I'm not at that level to debate about my level 40s gear. I just hit 30 as a DRK. I'm quite happy with what I have and will stick to it for the next 10 levels. This is my Cent, Merc Cpt Belt and Scythe and Custom F Hume Gloves.
