Past Reflections is the one where I give all the food to the guy in windurst, right? I've done that. This quest has me completely baffled, and I have a bad feeling that I'm missing something really really simple here. Luto took my Nodachi to give to my NPC, but still nothing. I've also heard that the genkai quest actually starts in jeuno from Luto, but.. nothing from her or Dierdrik...

Edit: nm it was the quest I was thinking of, but it's finished. I talked to Khumo at the end for the cutscene, was there something more?

that quest is so screwy...i talked to dierdrik and he wouldn't give me the quest either, just talked about angeline. so i went and talked to angeline a few times, talked to my npc at rendevous point a few times, talked to luto, went back to selbina again and he gave me the quest.
There was nothign special about what i did : nothing happened when i did these things. I'm as clueless as the next person as to how to activate it.


but in other news. anyone have any information on the 2nd limit break quest for npc? :|

To get the quest in Selbina:

1:Empty Darkness (will not show on the questlist)
Prequisits: Completed "Q1:Past Reflection"
1. Call your fellow at a rendevou point and talk to her
2. Quest starts when she ask you to investigate Promyvon
There is a 45min time limit from when the quest starts!
3. Examine a ??? at first level in one of the Promyvon areas
4. Call your fellow and get your Tactics Pearl
You can try again after the next conquest tally

2:Picture Perfect
Prequisits: Completed "A Pose by Any Other Name"
Do not have the Signal Pearl equipped
1. Talk to Diederik in Selbina
You have 2 options here:
2a. Talk to Angelica in Windhurst Waters
3a. Mine a Shell from Korroloka Tunnels and give to Angelica
4a. Get a "Milk-white Stone"(?) from Castle Oztroja
(Examine the BrassDoor at the Inner yards second level(I-9?) to start an event,
enter and examine the ??? and fight a BLM NM Yagudo.
Talk to the fellow after the fight and get the stone.
Only one event per person even if you are in a PT, so may have to do it several times)
5a. Give Angelica the stone
6a. Go to Umberto in Bastok Markets(L-10) to finish the quest.
option 2
2b. Talk to Umberto in Bastok Markets(L-10)
3b. Mine a Shell from Korroloka Tunnels and give to Umberto
4b. Get a "Milk-white Stone"(?) from Castle Oztroja
5a. Give Angelica the stone
6a. Go back to Umberto to finish the quest.

These raise up your relationship with your NPC. You need to have a good relationship with him/her in order to advance.

And these are the following quests:

2:Blighted Gloom
Talk to Luto and go Metal huntin in some dungeons.
The Metal you're looking from drops off slime in [Korroloka Tunnels], [Ordelle's Caves] and [Ranguemont Pass]
Give the Metal to Leuto and head to [Lake Mechieume] for cutscene.

3:Chameleon Capers
Talk to Luto and do some running around [Ru'Lude Gardens]>[Bastok]>[Windhurst]>[Jeuno] searching for an NPC
Later, your Fellow will suggest heading to [Delkfutt's Tower]
After several cutcenes and fights you'll get to choose an item
- Tactics Manual: Fortitude (Rare/NoAuction/NoSale/NoDelivery)
- Tactics Manual: Might (Rare/NoAuction/NoSale/NoDelivery)
- Tactics Manual: Endurance (Rare/NoAuction/NoSale/NoDelivery)

4:Regaining Trust
Talk to Luto and check up on a friend of hers at the hospital.
Return to Luto for a cutscene.
Head to [Qufim Island] and help out your Fellow that's fighting monsters.
Return to Leuto for a cutscene and then to the hospital for a cutscene.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA WTF... I did exactly what Demetrius said. Talked to Angelica, talked to NPC, talked to Luto, flew to Selbina, bam, got the quest. Noone said anything special, or out of the ordinary.... but.. wow. WTF. Perhaps that order of talking to them is another prereq, or perhaps this quest is just bugged to hell.

Edit: I just realized this, but the one thing that changed, was that I had the Signal Pearl in my inventory this time. All the times before I only had the Tactics Pearl (because the recast on Signal Pearl wasn't up yet)... maybe this is also important.

yea i remember takeing my signal pearl with me as well when i went and flagged the quest. I didn't have it the first time when he wouldn't give the quest to me. coinsidence? i have no idea.

Ok... so I got the Bal shell for Umberto, I talked to Dierderik, got the cutscene about how I need the stone, went to Oztroya, and checked the brass door.. and nothing. wtf?

Edit: I hope this isn't some sort of sick joke... I have no inventory space to play with so I put my signal and tactics pearl in mog when I came to oz. Warped back, and going to try again with them in inventory.. stupid 2000G chocobos.

Edit: went with the pearls in my bag, and nothing....... goddamit wtf do they want from me?

No, but I got it. I went back to Dierderik and got ANOTHER cutscene.. so annoying ;; Just getting really frustrated because I keep getting stuck on all these minor things.. probably just annoying because it just takes so long to travel back and forth.

Edit: Argh, my stupid NPC hit the NM after I slept it.. good thing it died so fast (2 IV spells), but I wonder why your NPC engages even though you aren't..

A couple of notes:

1- You do not have to complete "Empty Darkness" to start and complete NPC-LB1. I know this for a fact as I just completed Empty Darkness today and did LB1 yesterday.

2- NPC relationship _is_ important when getting any of the NPC quests. I have heard people that dropped their pearls numerous times in the early days had trouble flagging LB1 until they called and released for a few extra days to "catch up" to where they should be relationship wise.

3- The signal pearl may need to be in your inventory to start LB1 and be ready for use. I'm not 100% on this one but I have read on a couple of forums this situation where people had trouble flagging and then bam as soon as they had pearl LB1 started no problem.

Alright, I'm sort of a newbie when it comes to the NPC thing. I got mine (Elvaan female with black hair) when the quest first came out and haven't really messed with her. She's still using the starting weapon and shield, and I want to change it. So I have a couple of questions for everyone.

1. If I want her to use a completely new weapon, like a g.katana, do I just buy the first one of the series and take it to Luto and she'll start using it, or do I have to do something else?
2. How do I know when to upgrade the weapon?
3. Where is a redenvous point in Jeuno?

That's about all I need to cap her for now. Thanks ^^

There are only specific weapons that Luto will take from you to give to your NPC. Keep in mind that Luto will not just take any weapon either. There are only certain ones she will take which can be found here. As for great katana, these are the ones that she will take in this specific order...

1. Ugchigatana for the first upgrade
2. Tachi for the second
3. Nodachi for the third

2. How do I know when to upgrade the weapon?

Periodically you talk to Luto and ask her if she has anything new for you. Sometimes she'll tell you that your NPC is looking to upgrade their weapon or something of that sort. That is when you can trade Luto the new weapon to give to your NPC.

Keep in mind that you must keep playing with your NPC before Luto will even ask you. I'm not sure whether the upgrades are triggered on how many times you call your NPC or by what level your NPC is though. If you aren't playing with your NPC she will not ask you.

Also you should check with your NPC at the RP regularly after you play with them. Sometimes they will have new stuff for you. New fighting styles, headgear, etc... There are also some combat options that you can set.

3. Where is a redenvous point in Jeuno?

The RP is in Ru'Lude Gardens. When you zone in from Upper Jeuno you go left past the conquest guard and it is where you turn right as if you were going to the AH.

I wonder how this works though. I wonder if it's possible to completely "repair" the relationship (I guess so).

Right now it seems like I am one step after (one NPC summoning) after the people who unlock the new quests, even though my NPC seems to be the same level.
For instance, my NPC is capped (or very close) at 55, but I still haven't gotten the 4th weapon upgrade.
I wonder if it has something to do with JP midnight, maybe it has to pass once before you can get a new quest or something.
It just passed now, so I'm gonna try and get the weapon upgrade in a few minutes.

I really like the story for these quests as well! Exciting stuff.

EDIT: Talked to Luto about 25 min after JP midnight, and got the weapon upgrade.

(npc level 43btw) luto told me slimes of this nature lived in korroloka tunnel to find the vitrallum, so ill head to kt, and see if i can find anything around, if not ill follow your directions for ordelles

I got a cutscene from Luto after my NPC hit level 53. Your mission this time is to gather a certain type of metal that can be used to repair the broken mirror. Luto will send you to ordelle's caves where you have to kill a slime for the key item.

Zone into Ordelle's caves from F-7 entrance in La Theine Plateau. Head south to the Path that ends at G-4 on the first map. Then head to I-5 on the 2nd map to find a ??? point. Click it to spawn the slime NM. Your NPC will appear to fight with you just like in the first limit quest.
Very easy fight. My npc hit it for 71 damage when it spawned and that took away 9% of its health, so only has around 750-800 HP. I killed it with 1 tier IV spell on my blm. talk to your npc, then check the ??? point again to receive the key item Vitrallum.

Return to Upper Jeuno for a cutscene with Luto.

Head to King Ranperre's Tomb and zone out into jugner forest. Head east for a little bit until you find a ???. Click it for a cutscene.
Reward: "You feel the bonds between you and your adventureing fellow strengthen!"

I can now choose a Silk Hat as a different style headgear for my npc. I believe the type of headgear you are given is dependant on the race of your npc.

ooo thats weird. I didn't know she sent you to different places for that section of the quest. You may have to find a ??? point there instead of ordelle's.

edit: Updated origional post to include new areas. No idea where the ??? points are there though. If anyone wants to give some directions i can add them in.

I'm interested in what those tactics manuals do once you complete the capers quest...One manual "details the core principles of offense" one for defense, and one for healing. I wonder how the one you decide upon will enhance your npc's abilities in that area.

i just found it, its in the same area as the ninja ??? cept on the other side of the room f9/10, i havent made it back to jueno yet so i dont know whats next

edit made it to town, is it necessary to go through krt to juggy? or can i just go to juggy? luto mentioned a lake etc, but thats about it

Think it might be how many times you've used it...
Also i have to find the slime at Ranguemont Pass, my NPC is an elvaan... So thats different for race...
Think a lv 55 can solo the slime?
