Heh, Ryutto hit the nail on the head (except it's Bal Shell that you mine from an Excavation point). You do not need to complete the promyvion excursion either, as I haven't done that yet and began and completed the quest.

I'm not looking forward to seeing what will happen with Oztroja now, but if your npc has to be lvl 50 to get the quest I guess it couldn't be too bad... could it?

Oh, for those wondering where to go in Oztroja later: I-8 on the Quu Domi the Gallant map, second floor (the path that trails off to nowhere)

I thought the Tactics pearl is obtained from doing those Promy quests.

I went to Angelica for my leg of the quest, and she wanted me to come back with a Bal Shell as well. I got it the first time i swung a pickaxe in korroloka tunnel. Took it back to angelica

Then she told me to go to castle oztroja(same thing again). Go to the brass door at i-8 on the 2nd level of the fuma kyahan nm like motarrisu said. you'll get a cutscene and your npc will show up. open the door again and click the ??? to spawn the yagudo NM

This NM prob isn't any higher than level 50. I killed it on my 75 nin before i even got up to 100 TP. Its a blm type mob i'm pretty sure. Casted thunder II and stun on me.

I took the key item back to angelica again, and she gave me a key item to drop off with Umberto in bastok markets.
This concludes the quest, raised my npc level cap to 55.

anyone have anymore possible info on further weapon upgrades? i did the Xiphos --> Bronze Sword upgrade the first week the NPCs came out...and i want to get my NPC a better weapon...lol
also, can anyone confirm the requirments to start the genkai type quest for your NPC? mine is currently lvl 49, so i'm pretty sure i'll have to at least lvl her up to 50 any info would be appreciated. thanks

Mine is 50 and I couldn't get the quest from selbina. I leveled her in uleguerand today, and haven't gone back yet.. I figure you need capped or close to capped exp at 50 to get it?

You need to have done the A Pose By Any Other Name quest from Angelica before you can get the Picture Perfect quest to uncap your NPC. I had the same issue of not being able to start the quest when I first tried.

I just tried to get the Genkai1 quest for my lvl 50 NPC, but no go. I am wondering if you have to cap out the exp on 50 before you can get it.
I've taken my NPC out 3 times since the update (and the food quest) but I haven't hit the exp cap on any of those times since I've been skilling up Scythe at the same time... So the kills has been slow, and she left because of the time-limit and not the exp-limit.

Gonna go see if I can get the Promy quest.

My NPC is caped at 50 since a while now.
I went to get the quest in selbina , the dude didn't want to give it to me.
Then I went to windurst and did the "A Pose By Any Other Name " quest.
Went back to selbina , still nothing.
My NPC also doesn't want to give me the emptiness quest (I sumoned it everytime I had a chance to since the update).

Well, I went to talk to NPC at the rendevouz point and she gave me the Promy quest. This was after the 3rd time I took her out since the update (and since doing the food quest).

Went in to Promy (with fishing gear) and found the ??? quickly. Almost got beaten to death because I was impatient, but luckily I had Carrie out so she could tank the mobs while I checked the ???, lol.

My NPC got 300 exp for this. I'm guessing that this capped her at 50, because I got the quest in Selbina after that which I am currently doing.

I like these quests, they are a lot of fun in my opinion!

EDIT: Well, finished the quest, and NPC is now capped at 55! You also get the title "Team Player" from finishing it.

Checked with Luto just in case, but no new quest yet. XD

Thursday:
I tried and tried to get this quest last night after going to to level my npc with a friend. This is the first time out since doing the food quest.

Diederik would not give me the quest. I went to windy and talked to Angelica and did that small quest where she paints you. Back to Diederik, nothing. I even went to tele dem and tried to summon him at the R.point located in there. Went back to Diederik, nothing. Gave up, went to bed.

Friday:
Woke up, talked to Diederik again, nope. So, I warped to jeuno, talked to Luto then to npc at the RP. He finnally said somthing about needing to check out the emptieness when you ask about the quests. I'm guessing that you need to actually see a RP in one of the promys to have your NPC to say somthing about it.

I warp to mea, go in, and click on the RP. My NPC summons and we have 45 minutes to find the ??? located in there. My time clock on my npc pearl was still ticking, so you do not have to have a fresh pearl to do this part. I didn't have the time to look for the ??? so I dismissed him (plus i was in my fishing gear O.o)

I then proceded to see if I could summon him from the RP's in the two other promy areas, but couldn't.

I then warped to holla, went to selbina for a chat with Diederik 1 more time. He gave me the quest!

A warning about the Prom quest - it's a pain in the ass. First of all I had to talk to my NPC literally over 50 times in a row before he said something about the Emptiness. Why they made it like that I have no idea... My NPC is at level 49. Then during the quest I got sloppy and got aggro while in the middle of checking the ???, it said event skipped and I died, NPC despawned. Now I cannot start the quest in the Prom again or get my NPC to talk about it again. So if it is indeed a weekly quest you only get 1 shot at it. Just the most horrible experience I've had with a quest in FFXI.

Edit: Was able to start the quest again when I logged on today, it had passed JP midnight.

I still can't get the genkai quest. I went to Promy Mea and checked the Rendezvous Point (no response), then went back to my NPC in Jeuno.. is she supposed to be saying the same thing over and over again? I completed the first quest in jeuno, but my NPC only talks about that little girl and finding her glass thing. Is there a step I'm missing somewhere?

Ok, this is weird. Here's my chain of events:

-I talk to NPC 10-20x, no message.
-Go to Garliage, summon it once, kill 3 things, warp. (This was my second summon, this might be the key)
-Talk to Luto, nothing.
-Talk to NPC, it gave me the emptiness quest FIRST TRY.
-Went to mea, found ???, NPC got 300 exp and warped me to the entrance.

Nothing to it? I had only summoned my NPC once after the update, perhaps this is the prereq. Now lets see if I can get the genkai quest..

Edit: I went to Selbina, nothing. Went back to check RP, got tactics pearl, went back to selbina, and nothing. I know I've done that pose quest, I did it like when I first started... this sucks ;;

Monkari, try going to all 3 promy areas. I don't know if that will help, I did that though. Even though you can't cast him back to back in all three areas, I went and checked all the RP's anyway, after that, I got the gk1 quest in selbina.
