I'm an avid user of Adobe Premiere, I find it the best video editting software available. However, as an encoder, I've had many problems with it. Solution? Don't use it as an encoder.

There are 1001 freeware video encoders that do the job ten times better than video editting software. The one I use most often is VirtualDub, which was one of many videos intended for use in association with DVD-ripping, but performs normal video encoding very nicely. The only downside of this is having to export your Premiere production in a completely uncompressed form. VERY large filesizes, larger, in fact, than your Fraps codec.

Speaking of which, Fraps does not record videos in uncompressed format, but in a near-lossless codec that allows Fraps high-quality recording that doesn't chug up the PC as much as uncompressed .avi. (Try running completely uncompressed video on your PC, it requires some hefty processor usage.)

Hello....just wanted to say hi, and that your movie guide is very informative and well put together. I am nearing completion of my very first FFXI video and have gotten positive feed back for what has been done already. If people turn out to like it I plan on doing sequals but thats neither here nor there.

My biggest question is that should a 10 minute film be up to 65+MB in size?...I have tried to compress it but doesn't seem to be helping. I'm using Windows Movie Maker for the video, and don't want folks to spend an hour downloading it.
The unfinished vid is here...and would greatly appreciate it if anyone could give me some feed back before I finish the final version.

65Mb for a 10 minute film is fine. If you want to compress it further I'd suggest using divx converter www.divx.com

Also it doesn't take an hour to download 65Mb as a lot of internet users now have fast connections.

Ninja Edit: Rascal that video was AMAZING for your first time. It definitely warrants it's own thread. Post it in the forum to get feedback from others. I too, will give you my opinion and I have a number of ways that would improve any further videos you make.

I'm getting the same dark effect as Spiezer...anyone seen this before?

Also, I can't use VirtualDub to encode using Divx 6.6....Fraps FAQ says to click 'unrestrained profile', but can't find that option.

ok i use Windows Movie Maker and i was wondering whats the best compression to use when compressing it. I never had any problems making any movies but was wondering what is used to make the compression quality better for viewing on Youtube and on the Nintendo wii since you can watch videos on there.

I have a question regarding the uncompressed un-tampered with file from Fraps... When I watch it in MPC it's all sped up. How can I prevent this from happening and how can I fix it?

You can use the english version FFXI Model Viewer. You FRAPS to record video from this, then you can splice this video as overlay using a program such as Adobe Premiere. The site that was hosting this went down, but you can find it as part of the DAT Collection zip file at http://www.ffxionline.com/forums/dat.image...collection.html.

Hi... I'm using Sony Vegas and when I record in altana viewer or model viewer and try to overlay onto another video.... I always have a blue background on the stuff that i recorded in the model viewer/altana viewer. So my question is how do I get rid of the background of the stuff I record in altana/model viewer .... or maybe I'm just overlaying it incorrectly? So maybe could somebody walk me through it please? Thanks in advance!
