Your FPS statement isn't exactly true. I was recording our Nidhogg fight and the FPS was running at about 8, and the video was wonderful after I looked at it. No more lag than what was already there in the area. :3

>< ok, I've tried Downloading the Full Fraps from kimeraproductions, but when I get it, I can't open it. I've used the Winrar and stuff to unzip it, but all I can get is a useless icon on my desktop, I click on it, and it does nothing. Dunno what to do. I've had even less luck with the limewire. Are there some other programs I need or what? I have the trial version from fraps.com and it works fine.

~Fraps Lag Issue Solved ~

I have found an excellent way to reduce the lag when recording with fraps. It's a little extreme but works very well. I currently have 2 hard drives. One hard drive runs FFXI, while the other I use to run and record fraps videos. Recording at 30fps I would occasionally drop down to 27-29fps which is still quite good. This significantly reduces the load on having just one hard drive. If you think buying another hard drive for your PC is a little extreme, you can actually get 40gig hard drives for around $30-40.

I personally think its well worth it. I dont even notice the frame rate difference when fraps is recording.

NEW SECTION ADDED

XII. COMPRESSION

Compression is a big part of making a video it decides if the person wants to wait on your video to download or say omfgwtfbbqleeroyjenkinsbbqpwnage>< you dont want them to say that <.<. As far as good programs go here is the list...

Virtual Dub - Never personally used it but by reading reviews it is an amazing compression program. http://www.virtualdub.org/

However my compression program comes with my editor ^^

Windows Movie Maker - By saving it , it compress's your video to a nice size as a matter of fact http://www.microsoft...oviemaker2.mspx

There's also the fantastic Windows Media Encoder http://www.microsoft...er/default.aspx and it's truly a godsend for all us Premiere using folks, because it's much easier to output uncompressed and re-convert using WME.

Hey when I first got fraps from a friend it did the useless icon thing thats listed above <.<, but i finally found one that opens ^^! regretfully it's not working 100% ._. seems every time I record the framerate drops to 5. I thought it may be a ram issue but I have 512 mb of ram. I'm running fraps on diffrent hard drive then the one ffxi is installed on <.< I have 0 programs running besides ffxi and fraps...any thoughts on how to fix it or if i'm just doomed in general? thx <3

This is actually my first post on KI and I must say...that guide is excellent! After reading it and messin around with the progs i made my first movie in less than an hour complete with visuals and music. My machine is pretty crappy and even though Fraps said i was in the 8-15 FPS range the vid still turned out really good. Thanks again for putting the time and thought into the guide, we all appreciate it
