im about to try and play FF on PC, need a upgrade from ps2. the higher the number the better the game will play, right.

BLEH 1987 on high, looked like it ran ok excpt in the parts where there was like 30 tarus running around then it slowed. Altho the cutscenes ran perfectly for some reason...

3100s on low, meh this laptop wasnt made for gaming, was more for work/movies. I hope i get a laptop/desktop for a graduation present, one ment for gaming. My rents asked me if the one we have now can play games, and i said not anything current, at least not to the point where there not choppy.

Oh well, im DLing a torrent of the vanadiel edition 07 and well see if what i can do with that.

Benchmark 3 program

5025 Low Res
2507 High Res

AMD Athlon 64 Dual Core 5000+ (2.6Ghz)

nVidia GeForce 7200GS 256MB DDR PCI-E
2048MB DDR2 RAM PC6400 800Mhz

I also used Windows Vista Basic. Not sure if that slows things down. I would have expected at least 3000 on high from this system. What can I change?

It'd be nice if they clear my GPU for compatibility for FFXI and updated the drivers to work for it, it'd perform better D:

Its more of FFXI is a DX8 game and drivers can decrease the over all performance of older DX games the newer they get. If you have a card that was out in 03~ and use a driver from then, it will acctually run better. I remember people using that "trick(not so much)" back in 04 and 05 with like 6000 series cards. Man firega and shadow bind sucked with my 6600GT.

But at the same time everything else will run like soggy dick.

OP: Your computer will run it fine. It caps at 29 FPS either way, turn of shadows in game and you should be able to run at highest stock settings decently.

The new address for the benchmark program is:

http://www.playonline.com/ff11eu/download/media/benchmark01.html

Edit: If my dinosaur can score 5929 in high res and 7826 low res, I can't imagine any modern computers that would be unable to run FFXI with all the bells & whistles.
