I've been playing for year and half now and always got bad FPS, lately I started noticing that FFXI sometimes "skipped" sounds on my computer and FPS pretty much doubled when it did that. So I figured I should try running it without sounds for once, and what do you know, FFXI runs so smoothly now I can't believe it.

I rarely even had sounds on nowdays so this was pretty perfect. So how to do it? Simple:

It's not enough that you mute them ingame, the game will still play the sounds. What you do is go to FFXI config in windows and choose "Disable Sound" from the "Sound" tab.

This should raise FPS on anyone who has integrated sound card(and probably slight increase for those who got PCI-Soundcard too). Very useful in HNM alliances and such. Please post if you get improvement this way, I would be interested to know how well this works for others.
