water -> fire -> ice -> wind -> earth -> lighting -> water
light <-> dark
same as the way magic works, use a crystal to fertilize and you'll get the crystal of the element it is strong against.

yea i tried that but i got some useless food ingredients. i want to know if there is a way to ensure u get crystals instead of something else, such as planting on a certain day, waiting so many days, etc.

Well from what I've heard and read:
Crystals are kind of an 'undesired' by-product. Meaning, the more you 'examine' your plant the better chance you have of getting those food ingreadiants. BTW alot of those ingrediants you get arean't worthless and gardening them is much easier than finding them, so hold on to them and see what they fetch at the AH.
So basically the worse you care for your plant, by not examining it, the better chance you have of getting the undesired by-product a.k.a. the crystals.

Yes, if you don't examine it frequently enough they will die.
I've grown tons of plants, and I generally always get ingredients. If you take good care (and are lucky) you can on occasion receive a stack of 12 ingredients which you can send straight to auction.
Growing plants is a decent method of making extra side income. Especially if you have multiple pots.

Sorry, I wasn't to clear with what I meant.
Basically, to get the good results (ingreadiants and sometimes rocks <--- very valuable) examine it alot.
To get the bad results (crystals) examine it the minimum to keep it alive. But be aware you'll prolly only grow about 2-6 cyrstals per pot each time.

How much you examine has little to do with the crop outcome ..as in..what youre gonna get.
So far as I've seen/read, there are diff variables
What type of pot?
What type of seed?
What type of crystal?
What day do you harvest on?
No one has a thorough chart yet, b/c there are sooo many different variables. Brass pot, veggie seeds, and water crystals can still leave you eight diff harvest days
I have grown 17 fire crystals though, using earthen pot and I believe herb seeds.
Best piece of advice....but 10 assorted pots. LIttle expensive now, but its an investment.

I use brass pots -> vegetable seeds
When I can feed the plant a crystal I pop it a water crystal.
I also make sure the last time I examine my plant, my moogle gives the better sounding message, ie, "This plant is growing well, kupo." as opposed to "This plant is growing well." or something along those lines. I also harvested on a firesday I think, and out of 4 pots I got 3 x 20 fire crystals, and then 8 cabbages... o.O
Anyways, I'm trying to grow light crystals now and if I can, I'll be in the money!
Oh, and sorry if the moogle message example is a little off, I haven't been on to check my plants yet

My personal experience is that I'm not going to directly grow the crystals I need for my craft. Im opting for fire crystals since they sell at a much more tempting price, get that money and then buy the crystals i need =)

Hey, I planted six brass pots with grain seeds and all ice crystals, and I didn't "examine" the pots at all (but i did enter the mog house to look at them). All i got were stupid Kukuru beans and no Wind Crystals. Can anyone help me out?

I think you have to harvest them on Windsday? Or was it harvest them on Earthsday? It's probably because you harvested them on the wrong day though I think...

I have 10 brass pots going now and I got 9 stacks of fire crystals each time. Selling at 1.8k a stack, it was nice money and I got new gloves

So far the best known recipe for gardening Fire Crystals is as thus,
Use brass pots (Fire based) Plant either vegetable or herb seeds (grain won't work) on either Lightsday or Lightningsday. 2 real days later you will need to fertilize with water crystals on watersday. (opposite effect of your goal as water opposes fire) then in another 2 real days, you harvest on firesday. I run 20 brass pots, 10 on each of 2 of my mules and I may up it to 40 soon, and I generally harvest around 8 to 9 out of 10 pots as fire crystals. The other result will be bay leaves if you did it right which still sell ok, just not what you wanted though. I generally check every pot maybe twice a day. sometimes even three times. (on separate game weeks that is) Hope this helps and Hail Bastok
