Been in Ordelle's since Elvaan Male RSE stared and haven't seen anything except for 3 ??? that all say "Nothing Happens." I don't know if those 3 are connected to the NM.

same thing for me when i went during female rse week in ordelles, "nothing happens" over and over at every ??? except the quest/af ones.

i might try again when elv female rse week is up again

There are a couple more people in Ordelle's as well so it might be possible that they spawn and kill it while I'm elsewhere.

The ??? in ordelles caves that say "nothing happens" are for DRK AF2 btw. Theres one right when you fall down the east hole, one in the hallway on the way to Malbolger, and one in the room where Malbolger pops. So those aren't the right ???'s. I get the same message when I click on them even though I've done the quest.

But yeah, no luck on finding a ??? that works. I'm going to test a new theory, which I just made up because I'm bored: The ??? starts to spawn after a chest is opened, and doesnt give a pattern. Perhaps doing this explains how sometimes the ??? pops near a chest?

Well, it's worth a shot. After all the time I've put into this, I'm about ready to give up and let someone else figure out how to do this, then I'll come back.

But yeah, maybe its possible other people are killing them and I suck :/

I totally agree, there has to be a trigger condition that lets the ???s pop. Thinking about it over coffee I came up with this....

Each RSE zone has mobs that are of the same family as the Aroma mobs. Crawlers, Flies, and Leeches are rather abundant in each zone. Perhaps we have to kill enough of each of the appropriate similar mob to get the ??? for the Aroma mob to spawn.

Anyone want to go to their appropriate RSE zone & farm the Crawlers/Flies/Leeches for a bit and see what happens?

hmm, last time it was Elvaan M in Gusgen Mines; I was killing quite a few flies in the room with MNK AF1, teamed-up with an Elvaan WHM who needed keys. Maybe I didn't kill enough of them, but I still think that it may spawn in any of the 3 zones.

SE is crazy, so I don't doubt that theory for one second.

I also ran around Gusgen for a few hours, never found a ??? not already used-up for a quest.

I just wanted to confirm the existence of the Aroma Crawler. I killed it twice, but no drop. The ??? spawns I saw were the first 2 listed in the OP, and don't remember the time between the two spawns, but felt like around an hour. BTW, I'm hume male, and I went there on Hume Male's Week/Location since I also hunted a RSE chest while I was there. There were a couple other people in the maze, and I can't say if they were hunting the same thing I was, or were there for RSE chests, Argus, etc. I did spend a while killing mobs for a key since I wanted to get another RSE piece while I was there, so a ??? could have spawned and been claimed by someone else during that time.

ran around for about 6 hours in maze during taru M rse then for around 4 in ordelle's cave for taru F rse (brought a taru F friend) and we found 0 ???s.

this is has led me to believe that the ??? appearing for the NMs might be a lottery for each race in and of itself. I will keep going back during taru M rse and see what i can find out..

RSE usually helps balance you out, not widen the gap between other races.

Ok, so you've popped it thrice but it wasn't during your RSE week? Do you know when it was? Even an earth time will do to backtrack to the Vana'diel time and, probably most importantly, whose RSE week it was.

No i popped him 3 times on my RSE week at the maze (no drop), found the ??? quite easy (30min repop)

Then i tried on my next RSE at Gusgen but never found the ??? in 2 hours of running around ><

Edit2: Scoured the entire Maze during my RSE week, no luck at all. Couldn't even find the correct ??? a single damn time. No one else was after it, either.

That's a very interesting theory Lym. It would definately fit the "annoying as hell spawn timer" pattern SE seems to be following lately for new NMs. Easy enough to check too, we just need regular reports for a day or two from people as the RSE week cycles through all the races.

Taru F now, Mithra in 6hr30m, Gakla just after midnight, etc. I'll do my part tonight after work to try and see if this is the 'trick'.
