Reality check

Here's what we definitively know:
- Name of expansion
- A video was leaked that shows several recognizable cutscenes from FFXI, along with new areas.
- A character is shown running along in unfamiliar gear.

Here's what we do not know:
- We assume it's a new job, but we do not know this.
- We assume this new job is Blue Mage based off the color of the gear, but we do not know this.
- We do not know what abilities this rumored new job will have
- We do not know what skills or abilities this rumored new job will be able to learn.
- We do not know what particular stat(s) this rumored new job will favor.
- We do not even know what exactly this rumored new job will do or how it will play.
- Therefore, we also do not know what subjobs are yet viable for this new rumored job.
- We do not even know whether a Blue Mage would be abbreviated as BUM or BLU by SE (both have been previously used in other FF games).

I say the above because I've already seen threads debating what subjobs are appropriate for Blue Mage, whether they favor HP or MP, debating what skills they will learn and BUM vs BLU, and so on.

Yes, the video is more than likely real. But no gaming website has even posted in regards to the video being shown, reported what they saw, or so much as mentioned FFXI at the TGS. So anything discussed based off that video is nothing more than brainstorming ideas of somethign you are all assuming might happen.

Granted, it very well may be that SE plans to introduce Blue Mage as a playable class; I am not denying this. Perhaps the gaming outlets are just a few days slow to report this (despite IGN's live updates). But as we cannot confirm this concretely, we certainly have zero validity to any discussion involving Blue Mage's in-game makeup.

I'm not saying all discussion regarding Blue Mage should cease to exist, but I do think heated debates expressing opinion, all based off a rumor from a video nobody reputable can even confirm, should not be presented and argued as fact.

And given all the above, and the video, discussions involving Geomancer being another job added (despite never being shown anywhere) are about as valid as suggesting Pirate, Necromancer, Time Mage, or Angry Bus Driver as potential jobs.

It is all interesting, no doubt, but it's nothing more than speculation running rampant on this board.

You forgot to mention the part where they use enemy abilities in your 'definate' section.

you dont know that... you just see them breath fire.. that might be a new spell or a skill or something.. you have no idea.. it doesnt mean its an enemy move

Personally I think that that is just new armor >.> watch you all be getting your hopes up and.... BAM.. its some weak ass lvl 50-60 nin armor to 'look cool' in

They used the same breath attack as Raptors and the Web moves spiders do..
the graphics are identical..
on top of that, they made a point of showcasing it @ the end of the video, and showcasing the abilities just so a person with common sense would go.. HEY, they are using monsters abilities.. must be a new job class.. probably blue mage..

I doubt they would showcase a random set of gear, in that particular location, showing moves that are identical to monsters in the game in such a short burst unless they WANTED us to figure out what it was..

its pretty simple..
blue AF gear, monsters moves, comes from the new area and expansion pack..
hence Blue Mage or a job exactly like Blue Mage with a FFXI name..
either way.. its pretty obvious its a job where you can use monsters abilities..

Acutally i had talked to Masaya, a JP player on our server, who works for sony. They were alloweed access to a video and a description of the job, and it is in fact a Blue Mage. There was also one other job that was shortly introduced it seems and he said it looked to be along the lines of Viking.

So all you future BLU, go off and do ur thang while i go get drunk with my Viking buddies and absolutley pwn on the mobs ;o

Angelas :

I doubt they would showcase..

Listen to that... an idealist....

SquareEnix hates its players.. learn this please.

They are just screwing with you and toying with your imagination

Odds are.. some guy at SE HQ is thinking "HAHA! someone out there STILL thinks we actually will give them something great! HA!"

I wish it were pirates but i asked, (Pirates)?, and he responded: No,Strong and Axe. Old Armor. That made me to agree with him more Viking-esque than Pirate.

Ooooooo.... Frenzy would be neat. Kind of like a Berserk and Attack Speed Bonus, but with the loss of control of ur character for a given ammount of time. They would WS on their own etc. Still a neat concept tongue.gif

Meh, IMO Best SJ for SAM is THF. I say that because your DMG is reliant on your Weapon Skills, you dont have too great of a DOT. By adding Sneak Attack to ur WS u a guranteeing urself a higher DMG WS, thus making ur job more effecient.

i don't agree
while many samurai like subbing thf more (stupid big numbers syndrome) i prefer to sub war, after i have parsed myself on the same mobs, and i have found my DoT incredibly higher with /war

i sub thf only if i am closing the SC and the tanks needs help with hate

/thf is only if you need a hate control for a PT with a NIN, on Gods / HNms fight, etc. /war > /thf

Only 2 HNMs or Gods i see being more useful with /war sub would be KB and Fafnir. Dont wanna pull hate from KB really with a big WS, and definatley dont wanna turn Fafnir tongue.gif

As far as gods go i havnt seen a SAM in any LS sub WAR for any of them. SATA Gekko from Vaglecian from my LS did 1100+ recenlty, cant see it getting much higher than that. If he was /WAR he would have died from such an attack but Trick sets hate onto Tanks. Much more useful end game wise with THF sj.

on gods /thf is the sub of choice

/war tho is the best sub for DD on exp mobs, as a 75 monk i tought you'd know so <.<

If he was /WAR he would have died from such an attack but Trick sets hate onto Tanks

no, he simply would have never done so much damage in the first place

The expansion isn't even due out till next year, and theres already a forum dedicated to a 'speculated' job, ROFL.

Not true, it is rare but you can definitley get a Critical hit /WAR with a Weapon Skill thus producing such a number, if not higher because of the obvious STR/Attack bonuses from /war. Just the chances on this happening are very slim.... very very slim... but with /THF its guaranteed. As far as XP parties go, i havnt ptied with a /WAR SAM in a long long time. Then again i dont xp in Sky much, only recenlty have the invites for a sky pt begun to pick up, so it could be just by chance but idk o.o
