well, you would be correct. thats why you use a blink band to start.

aside from that, havent had too much trouble with maat, beaten him 2x on rng(1xfor friend), 1 on whm, 1 on smn, and 1 on war, most except for ng fight went 1/2, was 2/2 with rng.

Well the generic strategy for SAM Maat fight is:

Prefight (pre-Hasso, Seigan update. Yeah, yeah, I'm an old fart of a Samurai): Sleep potions + opo necklace (or meditate and wait for recast), sushi (or meat), blink band

Fight: Attack to engage then *deep breath*: Gekko > 2hr > Yukikaze > Meditate > Gekko > Gekko > Gekko which (if my SAM powers haven't escaped me) make Induration > Fragmentation > Distortion > Fragmentation. *cough* *hack* *cough*

Blink band's shadows are unreliable at best after the first hit, and here is the trick with SAM. No clue if Maat does this for other job fights, but the moment you 2hr so does Maat. So its like an Iaijitsu fight, fastest blade on the draw wins the fight. Sometimes you get lucky and he does a Liquefaction > Fusion SC (always including Shoulder Tackle) and finish with Asuran Fists (if your still alive)...but the majority of the time he will spam Asuran Fists. Its generally advisable to bring along an Iccy wing and a Vile Elixer (+1 if you can afford it), but chances are you won't even realize, nor have the time, to use it when you need it. But its always good to be prepared.

A~nyway, Samurai cat demands more comics!!!!!

Yeah that's the usual strat for the fight Knyte, not to get off topic of these awesome comics (been reading them since they first released them, <3 the LS related ones that started it). One thing I always was curious that never got included in the Sam Maat fight strat was the use of Third Eye. I also fought him pre-hasso/seigan and went 1/3 til I figured something out.

Like you said he does pop Meikyo the second you do, making the fight into a quickdraw fight. But the thing I thought about was, why I am I letting him use my own 2hr against me, ie self-SC, when I have the tools to stop it. My method was the same (sleep for TP/Meditate and wait for recast before engaging and same order of WS for the most part) but I paused my self-SC when I saw him pop his first WS, used third eye and anticipated his second WS. Doing this he can't complete either of his SC's, completely destroying his one advantage he had in the fight. It did cost me one SC's worth of dmg, but on the other hand I didn't even drop below 75% hp. Was always curious why it never got mentioned is all hehe.

Now back to the awesome comics, keep em up, hilarious stuff hehe.

thread derailed!!!

I see what your saying, and that is very good question. Only two reasons i can give are,

1) Blink Band and Third Eye dont stack. So unless your really good at noticing the little icons and are able to pop 3rd Eye the moment all of your shadows are absorbed, it will be difficult to to use it

2) Pre-seigan, 3rd Eye could only abosrb one weaponskill (yes even though Asuran Fist is considered a multi-hit, 3rd Eye can block it. Just ask a gob using his Goblin Rush). So while it may block his SC from happening, if he is in his Asuran Fist spam mode your screwed. I don't know any SAM that survived more than 2 Asuran Fists in a row.

So all together I think its just a decision of the player, whether or not to just try to be faster than him or to pop 3rd eye and block the SC. The general concensus is to just try and be faster than him, since a SAM is pretty much the best Burst DMG DD-type there is...although BLU can give them a run for their money nowadays.

Apologies to Caocao, we have derailed the thread

Hehe last de-railing statment I'll make.

Good points Knyte, I personally didn't use a Blink Band after the first attempt with it, as Maat's first two punches ironically ate two of my blinks, limiting its use a bit. I can see your point with Asuran Fists mode, I lucked out and only ate that one once and can agree yeah multiple AF's would be a downfall even with eating one with TE. As you said it would really just come down to the players preference of style and Maats form of attack, being psuedo-Meikyo self-SC or full on Asuran Fists butt-hurt. Once you see the first WS pop you could probably make a safe estimate whether to unleash the fury or keep one step ahead of him.

I can't imagine how the fight is now with Seigan introduced, get a lucky set of anticipates and eat his entire Meikyo spam...how easy it must be now makes me die a little inside >.<

Now back to the rail and on to Caocao's awesome comics which I wait ever so patiently for hehe.

They have escaped you for a bit, the 4th Gekko wouldn't build on the skillchain combo that you're already working on.

Gekko > Yukikaze = Induration > Gekko = Fragmentation > Gekko = Distortion

The only way you could build on that combo by yourself is if you had Tachi: Kasha or were able to swap in a polearm and gain tp fast enough for Impulse Drive, but if this is your first Maat fight, then you wouldn't be able to use them.
