Aphrasia: While RDM is a very versitile class, our crappy DEF does not warrant us taking maat on in a melee battle. In my experience and in seeing other successful RDM battles, MP and INT gear is the only viable choice. Your main focus in your strategy should be keeping Maat under control whether he's asleep or bound, don't let him get anywhere near you and he cannot touch you. Your main dmg dealing option should be aero III.

I beat maat earlier today on my second try^^. my previous attempt to kill maat on windsday backfired when his Asuran Fists tore thru my stoneskin and killed me when i was healing after a convert ; ;. my second try was on iceday or lightningsday i think ^^;. Aero3 wasnt doing the consistent 360 dmg, but it was still taking his hp down quite nicely^^. i used a mythic wand and masters shield to enfeeble him because dark staff was not helping sleep stick at all ;;. my mp was so very low (im elvaan), and my int was at least 10 pts lower w/o a subjob..but i had +36 int with all my gear. Sleep rarely got resisted with my mythic wand, and i was able to control his Chainspell by sleeping him . really the only enfeebles that got resisted was bind and gravity. To anyone having difficulty beating maat, my advice is take the fight slow...keep him under control and keep your buffs up^^. The Diabolos server record is 1 min 51 seconds (i think), and my fight lasted 8 mins >_<. Good Luck^^

Btw you dont need chainspell for this fight...i accidentally used mine while farming ruby quadavs after my 1st loss >_<. imo Chainspell is just a good way to waste mp and potentially make a mistake during this fight.

So I beat Maat last week on Thursday. Took me 5 tries. The first one I went in clueless waited too long...he got off full buff I died. The 3-4 ones I had trouble with sleeping him after his hp got lower. From what iv experienced...I don’t think you should melee Maat...the guy is like A+ at meleeing...just trying to use Magic on him is hard enough..melee’ing would be a nightmare. Not saying it cant be done...but you’d need to work on a lot of combat skills. And not a lot of people have time (or want to spend any of it) to leveling Shielding or Parrying just to beat some ol’ fogey.

I am having problem with maat ; ;
2 deaths, and just killed Ruby again, no drop.

I cant seem to have MP enough.
Always one or two Aero from his death.
I am using hi-ethers but i dont have enough time to rest during the sleeps.

And how the heck can Asuran Fists go trough 2 blinks and a new Stoneskin and still deal 550 dmg?

Here's what I had items/equip:
Pro Ether
Super Ether:x2
Vile Elixer
(Vile Elixer +1, i wouldnt suggest it)
Yagudo Drink (save that 40 mp)
Melon Pie+1


Warlock gear (except gloves and boots)
RSE gloves + boots
Forest Rope
Morion Earring/ Bat Earring
Electrum Earring/Zircon

Entering the battle without armor worked well too.^^
If you watch the RDM battles, notice that it should only take about 6-8 casts of Aero III to finish off maat.

Then Pro Ether...please for the love of gawd, use your Pro ether last of all cases. It will leave you medicated.

Ok, i think i know the easiest way to beat Maat.

1. Zone into BCNM
2. Run up to Maat
3. Sleep him
4. Dispel Shell if he got it
5. Stoneskin / Blink
6. Use medicine to full MP
7. Chainspell
8. Aero 3 until you got only got mp for Sleep1 and 2
9. Sleep him
10. Convert
11. Med up
12. Continue with #7

Just hope he doesent use poison on you-_-;

The Nuke/Sleep tactic takes way to much mp from Elvaans, better to go full out. i got him to 1/3 left, without having converted. But then i died because he resisted sleep 2 and then poisoned me to death ; ;

Use Sleep, then Sleep II that way you have a small gap for error.

Make sure you are using elemental staves for your sleeps and nukes. Also, bind, when available, works wonders on maat.

A lv70 mage without Dark Staff? oh noe ^^
I fought him on Lightningday, had 2 sleeps resisted in a row so he could beat on me a little ; ;

Spent 5hours at Ruby today trying to get another test. But getting MPK'ed and him not dropping i gave up.


I am starting to think of selling some of my RDM gear, but keep the equip i need to do my job, and then start up MNK again(The second highest job i got). Wich G5 is alot easier for an Elvaan.

But then, reason i started RDM was because i was tired of waiting a month for a party on my MNk :/

As a Elvaan you might want to maximize your Int to the most you possibly can. Try using Crimson jelly when you get in there. When you get in there don’t think things like Blind and Paralyze won’t help. If you can get Maat to use his 2 Hour before you, and waste it(i.e “Maat uses Chainspell! Sabotendar cast Sleep II on Maat.”). Then the fight is pretty much in the bag. Make sure you are not in close on him. Make sure you are far enough away it takes him a good deal of time to get to you, but close enough you can still cast. I’m sure you can do it, if other female elvaan’s can. Just keep at it. (' 3')-b

And yes, Elemental Staffs are a Must must must!

First and second time i was buffed out on INT. But handt enough MP to put it to use. Now i am going to borrow 2 astrals and the rse rope. +110MP i think. The marron glace on that. About 800mp for me.

If you feel confident using Astral’s and not Int then I you go that way. To be honest, when I beat Maat I could clearly see that I was going to win. I’ll do some searching of the Video I used as a guide. The video helped me alot. Check again, cause I will edit this post. btw, I only had about 550~ MP.

This video helped me Alot. Just analyze the placement of her Potions/Ethers. I did my Maat fight exactly the same way. (Except I didn’t take any damage). There is a point in the Movie where you can clearly see where she is going too win. Anyway I hope it helps you.(Hope the Movie works)

Went like that movie. was pretty easy O.o. 15seconds from Record.

Made 2 errors though.

1's : I ran in and pressd my Silence macro instead of Sleep II O.o
2'nd : Convert at 160hp aint good. But Vile Elixir and Hyper Ether corrected that.

Aero II did 354dmg, only one resist.

Had AF Head, Body, Legs, Feet. RSE2 Gloves. Elemental, Enfeebling Torque. Dark, Light, Wind, Ice Staffs. Rest is avarage RDM gear, 2 Morion, Moldavite, RK belt+1, Red Cape+1, Zircon and Aquamarine rings.

After i went to Garlaige to kill a beetle to get my level 71, now i can finaly wear my AF2 Boots ^^

eat pie, equip dark staff, spider torque: enter BC

run up to casting range.

cast sleep

cast stone skin, blink, aqua veil, prot, shell, refresh,

equip spider torque

bind maat

sleep...... sleep II

Chain spell.

every time he came at me and i slept or bound him i ran away to open some space up. i am a taru and i took very little dmg. but i controlled him well.

Sleep is the single most important spell you must land. thats why i used only dark staff. he resisted 2 sleeps in the whole battle. i think i was doing around 367dmg per aero III, dont worry about doing 10-30 dmg more per cast. if sleep doesnt work your dead.... not matter how much dmg aero does, hoe much MP you have, or how uber your gear is.

maat seems to drop around the 30% HP mark, guess he doesnt want to die.

I tried a few things before I finally nailed him XD came out with 1000 HP and 300 MP, cleared him in 5:50 sec. Here's what I had:

Preperation:
Set up all macros to include /equip changes to boost MIND and INT on each spell casted. Aero III was hitting for 360-370 XD I love INT boost XD. only spells I used were:

Sleep I, Sleep II, Dispel, Paralyze, Stoneskin, Blink, Bind, Aero III, Blizzard II, Convert (included cure) Chainspell + Aero III macroed

Strategy:
I ate my pie+1, rested, used a yag drink just before I traded. Ran in ASAP to Maat, used Sleep1. Dispelled until Shell Came off, buffed with Stoneskin, shell and Blink, used an ether. Bound him, Nuked 3 times with Aero and blizzard, put him back to sleep. Ran across the arena, used a yag driink, bound him, paralyzed him, used Vile Elixir, (he hit me ; and Ether, reapplied Blink, bound him again, nuked 3 times (aero, blizzard, aero) at this point he is at half life used sleep 2, I have 100 and some MP, convert + Cure4, Vile Elixir +1 Chainspell + Aero III all the way until he gave up XD. I left the arena full HP and with 300 MP to spare.

he didn't get anywhere near me thanks to the MND rings and Ice Staff macroed into Bind, paralyze and all the INT gear macroed into Aero and Blizzard. Blizzard was resisted once for 207 dmg but Aero was hitting for 360-370.

He used Thunder II, Aero III and Water III on me a few times and even tried Paralyze on me but I resisted. This was my fourth try and all the other times I did not have all of this gear. Its very important that Bind sticks if you want to live ; ; the other times he pwnd me with Asuran fists and on my third try he used poison on me and it killed me XD. This was also Darks Day.
