I see meriting on birds as MNK/NIN (VS good polearm SAM/WAR/DRG) as more of a test of might. If I can come close to their %s or even beat them, (which I have, until Hasso was full-timed; hi2u angry RDMs) then I know I would just be annihilating them anywhere else. Plus if I do win, well, go me. At MJSP and Mamook I've out-parsed stellar WAR/DRK/SAM, at the very least, by 7% every time.

MNK/WAR is another story. We could show up /WAR, pop Counterstance, and just Provoke everything if we really wanted to "win" almost any parse at almost any merit camp. Unfortunately merit party setups these days wouldn't allow for that, but holy shit would that be incredible.

Just to show that I'm not that much of a douche (lawl) and not all talk , here are some random, old parses.

Greater Colibri, bottom camp. Kailani- SAM/WAR (started full-timing Hasso after he found out that I was beating him); Mimaru- BLU/NIN (wanted to see how BLU faired against the best of the best at birds, lol)


Limbus: Temenos- Western Tower (Kinda lawl but whatever). Scrynth- WAR/NIN; Pur13- WAR/NIN (Ridill, dual-boxed though); Mimaru- Either WAR or DRK/NIN, don't remember.


Mamook. Scrynth- WAR/NIN, Perdu; Mimaru- Either WAR or DRK/NIN, Perdu.

Fucking destroyed them, lol.

These were before Marinara Pizza+1. Kabobs were probably used on the birds and in Limbus, most likely Coeurl subs in Mamook. That goes for all of us; I was MNK/NIN in all 3.

I'm not claiming to be the best (even though I am), and I'm not saying that the other DD were bad players, (great gear/ play style. yes, rly) just wanted to show you guys that Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time.

Sorry, but Kai was not a "good" polearm sam. acc is lower than crab sushi, but ws acc is lower than kabob, so my only guess would be the replacement of an attack buff w/ an acc one and/or no food, or just a crappy build? Idk wtf that guy was doing. Under 1k petna average isn't anywhere close to good as sam/war, especially with TWO buffers (I only see 3 ppl doing dmg so I'm going to assume u had brd/brd or cor/brd). I can break that average with 1 buffer.

Those numbers are all low, not just the sam/war, and a GOOD sam with polearm should be averaging 1300-1400 with 2 buffers( cor + brd), with a high of around 2600. I mean, these are squishy birds we are talking about, their whole purpose in life is to get wtfpwned by polearms.

That parse was pre Crab Sushi, must have been using Kabobs if anything. His Penta build wasn't anything special. Wish I could agree that he wasn't a "good" polearm SAM, but then I'd look like a tool lol. Can't forget about skill though; unfortunately it's not hard to Meditate every 2min 30 and WS whenever you have TP and are facing the mob .

Buffs were probably Min/Mad/March/March.

Maybe I didn't have any Usukane back then, I don't really remember. I would love to have another go with my current setup >: D

I've figured out how to beat Samurai on parses: play Ranger. If my wallet didn't spend several hours crying after I pissed through all that ammunition, I'd do it more often.

I dunno, I don't think my RNG would out-parse my SAM on birds, and they are both equally geared/merited.

I'd have to test it though, but I remember meriting on RNG the other day and saying "god I wish I was on sam..."

Maybe it's because I use a hellfire +1, but it seemed to shoot so slow even with 5/5 Snapshot and Mirke body, and 5/5 Rapid (that's a myth).

In fairness, 2 shotting a bird does make me hard.

Sam >>>>>> rng. As far as overwhelm goes, I'm pretty good with not missing. I maneuver before I ws.


Edit: Hell any decent DD can beat rng. Haste is a powerful buff, one a non melee rng doesn't get much benefit from. And if we're talking kraken rng, they're not all that great either.

why even post that parse? I mean seriously it does not show anything but a poorly geared/played sam by todays standards. I have parses showing me smashing a mandau thf at birds, and a apco drk at mmjsp lol... do i trust or use them as basis? hell no.... both where stupid gil bought accounts I assume since the thf had shit like scorp harness on and use no food or swap gear. The drk used a lot of askar and used a tenticle sushi at mmj..... ya i was amazed too, said he miss used food when i loled at him.

sam/war i dont feel benefits much from dual brd, get a cor+brd and do min/march chaos/fighters and just be amazed how well your penta avgs are, easy to hit 1350~ avg with not stellar gear, can hover below 1500 with. tping faster is important on sam but I always felt the 2nd march slowed xp, and watching xp watch when i play with my brd friend testing songs and which work best I feel that is most accurate atleast from what I have seen. on paper could be different but we all know paper is not perfect and really the mob usually dies after my ws or nearly anyhow lol... which is why i like stronger ws's. Also i usually have cor do the double attack roll b/c i party with war always i just like them lol.. not as bandwagony as sam so usually perform better.

also if you play sam competitively you know how huge timing on med can be. I see tons of noob sams that lose out on a ws during med phase because lack of skill and timing make them tic over 100tp, that could be 1400 dmg every 2 min 30 sec your missing, think about how much that adds up over an hour lol... +20k dmg easily, possibly 30k or more. that is huge.... each med is 2 free ws's when use right, or basically 2 shotting a bird. You have to know when the next bird will be comming in too or you can tic to 160tp sometimes, also watching others tp helps to make sure you dont med when 2 others have 100tp and kill bird b4 ur ws goes off making you hit very high tp if brd is slow puller.

I "parse and parse" as well and with an exception to birds I infrequently get beaten - let alone easily - by any of those. As for birds, only SAM and DRG beat me. The one time I got to go to KS99 Wyrm as MNK I ended up tanking it until takeoff (and it continued beating on me until the BLMs pulled hate). Not a real HNM though I realize.

Depends how far you're into the tree but in the low 200s 200-220 maybe. Then you need to move on. Can't remember ALL the spots i hit, but i did do black mandies for a long while in the tree, those are a bit harder to do multiple of though.

Rajas Ring is nice for the Store TP, especially when you're not equipping much Haste and need the TP for Waltzes.

Personally, I favor Arhat's Gi +1 over Kirin's Osode. I know that the assumption is AGI affects proc rate (has anyone ever demonstrated that AGI affects Guard or Parry or Shield?), but I find that it's a little too easy to get overwhelmed fast. Even when I had mandies out on Purgonorgo Isle beating on me, things could get a little out of control from time to time. I obviously wasn't meleeing those ones, though.

while strolling through Castle Oztroja to get a Coffer Key for my Red Mage, look who was all alone with no one to play with. my efforts were rewarded with a shiny pair of Impact Knuckles. if Ochimusha had dropped, on top of getting Byakko's Haidate and 450k gil, I think that would easily become my best weekend in FFXI ever. as it is, it was still pretty up there.
