Thanks very much! I will surely give BST another try. Thanks again. ^^
BST info

Hello! Thanks for the info. I have some questions. First off I’ve only leveled my Galka to 15 and it has been kinda sporadic. I plan on leveling BST with my hume after I get my WHM leveled to 37. My question is how big a difference is there when using the beastiary to kill mobs? When I was in Konshat I experimented with beasts (sheep) to kill lizards and then tried various combos of anything I could charm to kill whatever other mob was available. Generally I tried to stick with decents to toughs. I didn’t notice any appreciable difference or speed with which the intended target died. Am I better of to utilize the beastiary to level because it’s faster or generally because it may save my butt in a tough fight? I assume the difference will be noticeable at higher levels. However, I’m curious to know if it’s worth the time to hunt down the particular mob or just take what you can get. And if so at what levels? Thanks so much.

I would say that... no, it's not worth the time.
Finding a good place to lvl is pretty tricky to start with as BST anyway. Further adding to that with yet another 'condition' makes it annoying probably. All I'd say is find a good spot based on mob lvls, but also try to avoid using a pet that is weak to a particular mob. If your pet so happens to intimidate it, that's a plus. But don't go out of your way searching for mobs to use based on the chart. That's a lot of time for only a minimal gain. If the intimidation thing happened a *lot* more in each fight, then I might answer differently.

Thanks Lily!!!
I did some investigating and found a link on allakhazam that has a guide to leveling spots. It pretty much concurs with what you say. As a matter of fact it appears there is a quite a few areas that have mix and match mobs when looking at the bestiary anyway. Thanks for the info. I can't wait to get back into the game!!!!

Good stuff you got going here, a little suggestion, I think you should add efficient subjob choices.

Oh man ^^/ this is so cool. I'm an xp freak ;x i plan on lvling all my jobs up to at least 60 and getting all the AFs and bst was gonna be one of my last ones (drk will be last. so boring ;
. but i just got offered to a bst buddy with a good friend i've met on titan who is a high lvl whm and a damn good player that alone made me want to catch up to him (he's 31bst and i'm 16bst ;x) but now this forum and that alkazam link is making me wanna do it more ^^/
but yet i bring a question to the illustrious Lily or anyone else
: about how much hp is good enough for me to successfully and efficiently (meaning not getting too beat up) defeat the mob once my pet is dead. This of course prior to having release. So is there an hp percent that i should not engage and just run and get another pet to lessen the hp? cuz i seem to try to get at a mob sometimes and take a lot of damage when its about 20-30% hp left. ;x

Question! Since this is my final year of university this year my playtime is severly cut, so I've taken up bst since I don't have time to devote to levelling in parties. Thing is, I don't wanna level my whm, which is only 16.
Now, gil is no object for me. So I figure bst/rdm with good +1 pies, juices and alchemy items to make up for my lack of -na spells will do, I know another person whose gotten well into the 50's as bst/rdm using the same idea.
I know it's doable, so my question is, which pies? Any other suggestions? +1 gear isn't a problem either, so my only concern is will I have enough mp even with pies and juices? I think I should, but my bst is only level 9 right now and I'm still subbing war.
(Questquestfishfishquestfarmquestfishfarmgarden = yay gil! Half my playtime is spent making gil too, which another reason I love bst, no commitments or turning down parties. ^^)

question about the command...
i've never seen or heard of this so i know nothing about it. i just wonder, if someone calls for help can you use something like:
/ja "Provoke"
/ta
/a
ya know...things like that, well rather my question is, does it work with everything or is it just widescan?
Edit: the "/a" was a typo but kind of funny after i saw ^^;

Lots of questions.
Stuart_Unicorn: Hmm.. /war is okay for bst when you're partying. But for soloing whm is the best. Hard to see why if you've never played bst, but you'll come to realise (and respect) why whm is best. So much use from the variety of spells. Bst is a one person party, and because of that whm is more important.
Miyenne: I hate to say it but you ought to lvl up whm. ;o As for MP. I never once used +mp gear or +mp food. As a bst you perfect the art of mp conserving. I did carry some +mp items for use before I got started in a session or for raising (lvl50+ bst), but I never wore it for xping/fighting.
Galvan: How much? I'd say you want the HP bar of the mob to be non existent. I'm talking about barely being able to see it at all. 20-30% is too much. You want the mob to be like 2-7% life left.
Crucifist: I've never tried all those yet actually. What I can say tho is that /pet "Fight" works fine, even if I just have a mob selected, not actually tracked via widescan.

Nice post Lily! Been lurking and looking at your posts in the BST forum at allkhazam for quite a while!
Finally got around to leveling BST again yesterday. Got lvl 41! Got my WHM up to 25, so now I can lvl BST to 50!
A sidenote, if you dont want to lvl whm in PTs, it is very possible to solo it with /bst sub. All my whm lvls are soloed. Works very well, though charm fails can get quite annoying.
The good part is that you have a lot more MP to throw out cures with, and you can also finish mobs off with a wellplaced Banish!

Thank you for being such a wonderful help to the BST community Lily
I always look forward to your posts. I've decided to go with BST full-time now (Retired my DRK) and so I will need every bit of advice I can get on these forums
I have a couple of questions, if you don't mind. First one is when does it make perfect sense to sub WHM and how greatly would your powers as a melee diminish versus subbing another job, like WAR. Secondly, I was wondering how much of a difference does adding a bit more defense and evasion through gears (like HQ versions) would make for a BST between level 10 and 20 and beyond?
Thank you,
Kosy

Evasion is a wonderful thing
, esspecially when your workin on even and tough mobs, evasion is gonna show the best. So evasion is really important. Def, I used to be a 65pld, so defence doesnt make a difference to me, i could spend 100k for 5def... but some other pld would be gettin hit for the same damage and he saved 100k... thats why i quit pld.. so i wouldnt focus on def all to much.
The idea of the subjob is to make you life. As a bst your not going to have a healer in the pt to help you live, which is why subbing whm is like having a half lvl whm following you around curing you. And to sub warrior and go out to solo is just not a good idea, the thing is that you DONT want to get hit, and warriors make good tanks, so you might have a problem with warrior sub, by getting to much hate off your pet. The idea why whm is the best, is because with enfeebles you can control the fight, esspecially before 35(release) you have to make sure your pet dies, so throw in a paralyze/dia to give him the upperhand against a tough. Its just a fact that with a sub whm your gonna have more tricks to lean the fight in your dirrection.
And to tell you how many times Divine seal+cure has saved my life....

Just a quick way to hit 55
I played Bst after i had lvld monk to 30, i dont realy like whm so instead i used my war which was 15 already as my sub and ptied all the way to 55.
Bst can make gr8 tanks, at least elvaan ones dun kno bout other races, at 55 i was out damging plds and was taking only a little more damge then they did. Problem was keeping hate at higher levels. I went from 1 to 55 in about a month and a half this way.
I then lvld Rdm to 42.. cus rdm is very fun, and currently use it as my sub when i solo and duo.
you may also want to just pt until you get release cus that way you can establish a permant Bst duo buddy. Also i never soloed or duoed till 55 so i cant say which is better all i kno is thats the way i got to 55
Right now at Bst62/Rdm31 i ended up having to take a 3 month break and lost my partner now im stuck soloing because there arn't many Bst my level on my server.

i think ive decided to say FUCK ranger....my next option has alwayz been BST, i remember first time i seen someone runnin around with a pet scorpian...i was like "holy shit that is so cool" ..i want that to be me...and im sick of wastin money on arrows..and pullin for dumbasses that get me killed...next best thing BST
...problem is...is that i have monk, war, and RNG leveled ....and it took me a while....im def not lookin forward relevelin a whm all over again jus so i can sub it with bst....so i was thinkin...if i really was gonna relevel everything..what about bard? play music that weakens the monster jus like the enfeebling of a whm would do...would that work? or is "cure" the thing that really is super important...i ask this..cuz outta everything else..as far as mages go..ive alwayz wanted to be a bard...so if i could have bard for my sub...i'd rather go that route.

Hmmm. Don't F*ck ranger. Its a great job.^^
I'm maining BST now and loving every minute of it. I'm with you on one thing though, I hate leveling whm. I, myself, don't see how people main it. It's WAY to stressful for me.
BUT, /sea all bst and you won't find a bst/brd. 95% of them will be bst/whm because that is the best sub for it. Say you're a lvl 30 BST/BRD, your 'Singing' skill would be that of a lvl 15 bard. That will lead to ALOT of resists by the mob you're fighting. Bard's also have no 'Cure' spells so that would lead to alot more downtime. Just go out and tough it out as your whm for awhile. You wont regret it.

Hmm well you forgot that you'd probably have songs cast on you instead, like Army's Paeon (Regen song)...I wonder, do song effect your pet since they are group? If they do I'd use Def+ and Att+ songs too

No, songs don't affect your pet, unfortunately. :/
