lol maybe.. but a taru whm wont add much dmg even with skill capped.. =P

and i dont understand how #3 does anything ^^

Well #3 is more for a personal level, not party level(although it still benefits)

And you would be surprised what a taru with a good weapon can do.

I am a taru with a darksteel maul and I can deal decent damage.

I love being on the frontlines of a party. You'd be very surprised to see the dmg a whm can do. I shocked my party one day, I ran up and started thwacking at our beetle prey. I out-dmgd the rdm, and was keeping up with the pld. And the one time I was able to build up 100%tp, my Seraph Strike did 109dmg. Thats with an underleveled club skill, and taru strength.
Whm/nin? I'll pass.. without Dual Wield II, your damage rate is just as fast if you hold one weapon. And I like having a shield.. saves me quite a few times a night.

111 and rising. I should be able to bring it up immeasurably as I kill for my limit break items.
Dunno if anyone cares.. but I successfully solo'd an easy prey Antican Faber. ^^

  • That had to hurt. I felt it too.

Nice. Last EP I handled was a lightning elemental in Gusgen... had two Cure IIIs from a passerby, though.

I prefer to keep my TP, on rare occassion that I have it, for last ditch situations. Dark Knights love suddenly being able to get an emergency Aspir in, and the PLD's almost empty bar becomes a final Cure II for prosperity.

Ok, I'm amused.... I trust my set party, so sometimes I run in and make a few hits, but I accidentally got myself in the way of a trick attack once or twice, heh....

I was in a party in boyahda fighting steelshells one time with Pld Thf Brd Whm Blm Blm, we were all 68ish so the crabs didnt do that much dmg to the paladin so I didnt have to chain heal or anything, I would blink/stoneskin myself every battle and melee right in front of Thief, taking all the TA aggro, every other fight or so I'd get JUST enough hate for it to turn around and take a swing, of course It'd miss or do 0 dmg. Sometimes the most outrageous ideas can be quite useful

Yea I take a sick pleasure in pulling hate off the PLD. I dared Ander to SATA onto me.. it finally took a swing at me after the SATA after I'd cast a few more spells ;p

Thanks everyone for the great information on your melee techniques. I think I will try out some of them in my parties and see how it will work out. ^^ (I hope I don't get everyone killed. ^^)

Wow... people bitch constantly about RDM meleeing and there has yet to be a single flame on this thread. Oh well, more power to you. I plan on becoming a MWA member once I go back to leveling whm again. ^^

I didn't start melee whm until i was extremely bored of just pressing ctrl+2 ctrl +2 ctrl +2 ctrl +2 ctrl +2. so in Garlaige i subbed thf (of course we had a redmage and pld) and SA everytime i could. most of the time i was paying attention to health bars though.

i only recommend melee as whm if 1) your party is talented or optimal or 2) you have a plan to ruin your worst party ever

Then again how often do you know if your Party is talented. Only god knows. Static is a different story.

About time we get a little credit, count me in! My nickname around the LS is Mage Tank, hey I ever do some of the pulling (w00t for flash and go Carby!!) I melee most of the time, other then against those silence happy Ants in the Quicksand Caves, since my static has a wonderful RDM (tx Asha) and no BRD. I do pretty well and yes I draw some hate, but by being close the mob it doesn't break away from the rest when I do.

Long Live The Mage Tank!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Level 57, but only 140 club skill.

T_T

Getting there, though. I'll be extremely happy when I finally hit 150 and get a post -light WS. Then I can focus on getting the ones that actually do damage instead of just relying on Seraph Strike. The two MP maker WS are interesting, but mainly in the useless curiosity fashion. They're mostly there to make the paladins say, "Cool! I got a few extra mp!"

Speaking of which, I'm constantly amazed at how useful Seraph Strike is. It does great damage at low levels, and it still does nice damage at high levels. I had a member of my LS express surprise about it the other night. Too bad I can't seem to hit all that often in a fight, though, so my TP doesn't get built up as fast as I'd like.

heh my whm irl friend had help on his af1 by a 68 whm/nin what whacked down marcelute with dualwielded darksteel mauls ^^

If your friend is Consuela, I did that. I'm currently working on doing all AF1 NMs solo. WAR, DRK, and WHM down. WAR was a pain. Sleep didn't stick and I kept getting add after add after add...
I believe I did it as 70WHM/18NIN.

And if it's Consuela, tell him I said hey. :-p

Gotta share this as a MWA member. biggrin.gif

Last night our LS formed a party with NIN, DRG , SAM, RDM, RDM, WHM.

There were 3 Skillchains:
1. DRG > SAM
2. NIN > SAM
3. WHM > RDM

Yes, me and one of the RDM were Skillchaining.

Now this was only viable with a NIN tank(and a awesome one I might add)but it worked out. Many times I was only needing to use enough MP that Refresh would cover my loss. It was a great feeling to finish off a chain 5 mob with a Hexa Strike and knowing if that Hexa Strike wasn't there we might not have gotten chain 5.

Now, this was an LS party, so although we wanted great exp, it wasn't our huge concern and it was more fun just partying together then exping (at least IMO).

Now sure if there was a in my place it might have gone faster. However, it actually seemed to work out because the only downtime we had was when there were a lack of mobs, and with a all we would have been doing is waiting more, possibly even costing us some chain 5's due to lack of mobs.

Just wanted to share an open minded experience to all you MWAers out there, and even to those who don't believe in MWA to show it is a viable.

My groups always laugh at me when I say I want to melee ; ; Usually I'm just joking, but I was in a group once with some people from my ls (although I happened to be on my blm atm) and I ran out of mp and asked our ldr about tanking. He figured it was okay... and I had fun =D
From then on, I wanted to melee more with my whm and my precious hammer... but groups still laugh at me and think it's all a big joke ; ;

LOL it wasn't your hexa strike finishing the mobs off. It was the 2 RDM bursting Aero III as a result that was doing the trick ^^p

ONCE, ONCE, it was Hexa Strike to get chain 5, I didn't say every time. :wink
