Elemental Debuffs 101

A more simpler way of how I put this was that:

Burn + Choke + Shock = debuffs that affect the monster's physical and magical defense, magical resistance, and magical damage output
Drown + Frost + Rasp = debuffs that affect the monster's physical damage output, accuracy and evasion

You could stick Burn, Choke, Shock and Dia II on a mob and really make its defense extremely weak, or you could stick Drown, Frost, Rasp and Bio II to make its attacks weak as a fighting with a toothpick.

Um this chart ignores 3 combinations twice each. look for the tiny chart, this is more accurate. Also, wire I think you made a good call, with a pld tank and melee who can connect with the mob but do crap dmg I use this combination too sometimes. It works well and keeps the mobs from being total mp drains on yourself, I'm sorry someone like moon attacked you without a proper understanding of the spells.

Players like her who use personal attacks and then attack facts as opinions and then defend untruths as facts are highly irritating as they are the type of players who make it difficult for the rest of us to properly explain our actions and educate our servers about the wide array of possibilities we can offer. One tactic I like to take is discussing the debuffs I'll be using otw to camp w/ the tank. I get his/her imput, explain the benefits of the spells and adjust as the party plays out.

Also the giraffes in bibiki bay will have that high def + high str again and drown + choke will help make fights faster because nothing sucks more than 5 min of low dmg melee followed up by 1.1k healing breeze and a whm who has used almost all his/her mp keeping a pld alive. I had this happen with a whm, rdm, blm(me), pld, thf, drk set up. Drk would do some dmg but not enough thf hit arround 30 per hit (with decent gear) I did over 65% of the dmg and used almost my whole mp pool and the rdm was forced to nuke quite a bit as well. Drown and choke made thf and drk do good dmg and let the pld get some better hits in too and the whm used a lot less mp and rdm didn't have to back up heal or help nuke kill anymore just enfeebs and MBs and other rdm-y things. Only took 2 fights for me to realize 3 debuffs weren't working and I needed to think about a new approach.

Note: on the same mobs with a nin tank drown is wasted crap and choke is better paired with burn and shock.

Note 2: Ignored combinations -- Choke+Drown; Burn+Rasp; Frost+Shock. Though these do less DoT and affect fewer stats they can be more useful than a stack of three depending on which stats need to be lowered to help the part overall, not just YOUR dmg output as blm.

SE stated ages ago that resists are based on the difference in target and caster in spell stats (thats HIGHLY oversimplified but makes my point for this) as such correct the sticky pls to say that shock will lower the resists on mnd based spells
