"Burn - Lowers INT (more damage and less resists on BLM spells)"
so lowering the mobs int will up the max damage? and cause it to resist less?, or does that mean more damage because it will resist less?

It will raise both your max damage for any given spell and your chance of landing the spell successfully.

I was always under the impression that a magic defense was based on mind, and magic offense was based on intellengence.
Thus, I always thought that shock increased your spell power.
I figured this made sense because whm have a higher mind, and they typically take less damage from spells than blm's do. However, I only have gotten blm up to 35 and whm up to 20 so I do have limited experience in both.

WHM take less damage because of their passive magic defense up trait.
INT determines damage and MND determines resists

I am a 26blm and have not used my BLM to its full extent. I just don't know how. Most of the time I just throw every upper level spell that I have Thunder/Blizzard/Fire... then start over again. Now I have a little more to work with.
How can I improve to be the greatest Taru BLM ever?

http://www.ffxidarkangels.com/modules/copp...SkillChart2.jpg I edited this skill chain chart to show how/which elementals will stack a while ago when I read a similar article on rpgexpert. Long story short to use it just go in straight lines no "L" shapes and the spells will stack.
Anyway enjoy.
Jonas: Use your debuffs (talk to rdm and figure out who casts what spell. Blind, paralize, etc (and these elemental ones)
Space out your spells, pay attention to the TP of your skill chainers(using the burst spell just before a SC is sorta bad), and don't assume you know every thing.(but yea take that one with some common sence because most advise you get will be from people with out common sence. Ie...
Idiot:"Why don't you use dia to pull for us."
Sansian: /slap
Edit reason: My good friend Kikaimegami was gracious enough to host my chart on her site... THANKS KIKI!

thanks for tossing this info up here. i haven't lvl'd up my blm in a long time, but a static in my LS needed one, so i broke it out the other day, and they were asking why i was using those spells. tried explaining it to them, but i wasn't sure exactly how to tell them. now i got it 8-P
since it has been 4 months since i broke out my blm, i forgot how much fun it can be, now i am torn between rng and blm again haha

u kinda say against urself there.. first u say INT determines dmg and BLM spells resist. dont know if u mean the mobs spell-dmg or ur. then u say MND determines whm debuffs..
MND lowers magic defense therefore lowers chance to resist ur spell. Allwys cast shock as ur FIRST SPELL. on tougher mobs, allso cast frost, but not if u are planning on a long xp chain or doin multi t/vts, it is after all 25 mp.
cheers

Spells
Frost - Lowers AGI (melee hit more)
Burn - Lowers INT (more damage against the monster)
Rasp - Lowers DEX (lowers monsters accuracy and chance of critical)
Choke - Lowers VIT (melee do more damage)
Drown - Lowers STR (monster hits for less damage and damage is more variable)
Shock - Lowers MND (all magic against the monster is resisted less)

INT is still wrong here, i believe.. INT does only affect Your spelldmg, and Your chance of getin resisted.
so if you are casting Burn then the mob will do less dmg on his spells, and u will resist him more, but you will still do the same dmg with Your spells against him.
SHOCK though, will lower MND, and therefore allso lowers chance of getting resisted. Burn is imo no good at all, try to silence the mob instead.
cheers
